Strikes me that what they are implying is that take a CCTV (MJPEG/MPEG) and correlating the differing images (frames/fields really). I dont think that manipulation of one CCTV image over and over will ever produce results like that seen on CSI! Well, c'mon, CSI's trying to entertain an audience here. That said, video does offer some potential for enhancement. I've seen technology that can take a sequence of images, extract the motion out of them, and use that to work out a higher resolution image by watching how the pixels shift in color. There are cases where a car could drive into frame but the resolution is too low to make out the license plate. But if the motion of that car is extracted, and assuming that motion is actually of a useful vector, they can watch how the pixels shimmer and figure out what the color of the pixels in between them was supposed to be. When the image is reconstructed, the license plate could be read.
It's not as magical or practical like they show on CSI, but there are cases where it can be done. Heck, Hollywood uses technology like that to slow down video like the bullet time effect in the Matrix. There's a lot you can do with motion vectors.
As an European I'd like to point out that the article is not about football but about some strange American sport where the foot isn't even used (or at least not that often,I have no idea to be honest). Funny. If I criticized an article because I didn't know what Cricket was, I'd be an ignorant American and modded down.
Makes you relize how far man has NOT come. We think ourselves a group of bad asses right now. We have nearly seemless technology in large parts of the world, I can see and hear people literally years away by foot. I can do amazing things from my home... but is any of this really that far from clockmaking? If you were to take a look at the chronology of clockmaking, you'd find that the answer is yes.
All eletronics extend from the idea of harnessing eletricity.. when will we enter a phase where we seek new mediums to harness? Instead of becoming masters of electrons, we master all energy and matter. Etc.. so before we think ourselves genius, rememeber that were but a step into the long journey to true tech. mastery. Yes, we're a long way from forming the Q Continuum. How depressing.
Please tell us all how you would make air travel safe and convenient.
It WAS safe and convenient. Now it's no safer, and something less than convenient. You think selling $3 bottles of water on the other side of security is preventing terrorism? I hear what you're saying but it's not like there's a great solution out there. If they don't try to take 'obvious' steps in preventing an attack like that from happening, and something happens, people will shout about how they didn't do anything. It's a risk with a potential outcome that is very ugly.
If you ask me, the biggest problem here is a mixture of harsh judgement and hindsight.
These folks just sold me a fantastic Mars vacation package. I'm going to be a spy and meet a sleazy brunette.
Sincerely,

P.S. Do you know where I can find Kuato? That's a blatant clue, yeah? You having a swimming certificate and not even being able to swim. Twonk. No wonder you only scored 4%.
while not wanting to bring the mood down, innit funny how much R&D goes into "curing" Western maladies like erectile dysfunction.... When I read that, I had this image in my head of a balding man with thick glasses saying "Hmm.. you know, if we increase blood flow, we can improve erectile dysfunction. But... poop, I really should start working on African Sleeping Sickness, first."
Not only is my life so intolerable I'd be willing to take a change, but I'd leap at such a chance. If I weren't so chickenshit I'd have ended my suffering years ago.
Falcon I find your 'chickenshitedness' admirable. Good luck to you.
How about we stop buying their shit? What they don't blame on piracy they'll blame on a poor economy. In the mean time, they have a huge pile of money they can throw at politicians to help them create laws to maintain their antiquated business model.
Crap! "Captain", not "Admiral". Time for me to hand over my geek badge I guess... I thought it was a Star Trek IV reference and that you were concussed!
Hmmm... well now I can laminate my geek badge, but it cost me my ability to procreate. Pftbtbtb:)
They can't track your phone when it's off. It can't be tracked if it's not emitting a radio signal. Maybe you think off means something other than off? You can always remove the battery* to your phone.
If his legs get bluejacked does this make him the worlds first remote controlled human? That depends on if the BT connection simply sends data updates about its position or if they tell each other what to do. I really don't know, but I doubt you could do much more than trip him.
This anti-iPhone FUD is pretty crazy. It makes me wonder how many MS shills and bloggers they have on the payroll: You don't have to be paid by Microsoft to find annoyance in Apple's hype factory. It's just like you defending Apple even though you're not on their payroll.
As others have pointed out, you're not so right that people would have to be paid to disagree with you.
The fact that it operates in a vacuum might be a problem... have to think about that. Maybe Lance Bass will spend millions to ride that ride. Heck, half of that would probably come from Paypal donations.
Consoles have the advantage for publishers in the sense that they have much more control over how you use the content, they can extra for any mods or add-ons, but the net result is dumber users who play on their TV but don't know much about technology:( Console games also typically sell more copies. At least that's what I was told when a company I worked for worked with a game company. This was a few years ago, but they said that a 'success' was 200k copies on a PC and 500k copies on a console. I'm not sure how true those specific numbers are today, but the console market has been quite successful.
cp -R ~/music/* $DEFAULT_PATH_TO_APACHE_DIRECTORY I didn't say it was hard. If I want to give a friend a copy of something, it'll be to share my interest with that person. Like: If he's never seen a show I like, I might give him the first ep or something. My return for that is the potential for somebody new to discuss the show with. I'm not, however, going to bother uploading, burning, or even copying to a thumbdrive everything I've got to give to a friend. Let them buy their own shit.
I don't know why the *AA thinks I'm gonna want to spend the time to share whatever I buy while at the same time thinking they can charge me the same amount of money for a product that's less-capable.
We see and Winboi's can be just as bad - or worse. The question is: Are there really hordes of 'Windows fanboys' out there, or did Slashdot go overboard against Microsoft and cause a bunch of people to know better to fight back against the hive-mind? I personally think it's the latter, but my evidence is only anecdotal. It is interesting, though, that we're starting to see this with Sony. After a year of bad PR surrounding the PS3, we're starting to see noise from people who "don't understand why everybody woke up one day ready to tar and feather Sony".
If you need a professional to pick out the features you need on a phone, chances are you don't need all those features in the first place. If you really needed them, you'd know enough to ask for them in the first place. This is not as 'insightful' as it sounds. There's a difference between features and needs. If you're not up to date on cell phone technology, then you won't know what features are out there that actually address a need you have. That's where advice in general helps. You may not know that something exists, that doesn't mean it's not useful to you.
Ah, okay. Earlier you were drawing some pretty wildly over-reaching inferences, but I think now, with those caveats you mentioned, I'd have to agree.
I'd watch out on sending copyrighted material like that though. With all this monitoring going on, even a short excerpt like that could get you in trouble. Good move encrypting. I just wanted to apologize for letting my cat walk over the keyboard. He's an Apple fan, you know, and he just won't let some tropics just drop.
Well if we're going to use that excuse then why stop at web site defacement? Why not put out a contract on the heads of the music companies? Because... ruining people's lives with lawsuits isn't equivalent to murder?

Har har. Well, at least it's good to see that SNL's writers are finding time to expand on their art form during the strike.Kinda like Vista.

They need to be fought, not suffocated.
A spokesman for the Iranian Navy was reported as saying ..."Camping faggots!"

Have a nice weekend.. what's left of it. Hehe.
