Don't know or don't care. I am aware of the difference in each case, but I continue to use Zamboni, Kleenex and Frisbee as my terms of choice.
"Ice resurfacer," "facial tissue" and "aerodynamic flying disc toy" are not terms that roll off the tongue. In terms of useage, they've been replaced with more efficient words. Companies (and language purists) can whine about it all they want, but the steamroller of changing language can not be stopped.
Too bad that the use of spies is not at all part of Chinese "ancient wisdom."
"Hence it is only the enlightened ruler and the wise general who will use the highest intelligence of the army for purposes of spying and thereby they achieve great results."
...and consider that a flat 15% royalty is on the very high end of what an author would be paid. I work with two career authors; one claims to make $.80 per softcover, and the other averages $1.50 per hardcover. These aren't vanity press figures; unless you're likely to make the bestseller list, royalties like 15% only kick in after a certain number (usually in the tens of thousands) of sales.
Duke Nukem Forever didn't kill the studio; the studio killed themselves off without the need of any additional assistance.
The other examples are cases of products being buggy, or misguided, or overzealous... but any project is doomed to fail when the project team doesn't have a goal, and doesn't really work on the project.
If you need to have an updated version (or install extensions, etc.), use the portable version. It's meant to be installed to USB, but it works just fine from a local drive.
Did I miss the 360/Wii/PC/Linux release of Gran Turismo 5? Now that I know that it's a major multiplatform release, I'll be on the lookout for a copy to play on one of my non-PS3 systems.
Banning bundling would be harsh for users who "can't afford" to pay full price up front, and would rather spread the real cost of the phone across the length of the contract. This scheme greatly increases sales in markets where consumers are focused on short-term benefits (at the cost of long-term payment/debt).
Making an unbundled option mandatory would be a better goal. Good luck getting either option legislated, though.
The game is playable (low FPS) with ATI cards if you revert the processor to single core, either through task manager / process affinity, or right at boot with (e.g.) the msconfig utility.
Of course, you're better off exercising some patience and waiting until a proper fix comes out than running with a crippled game. The game isn't exactly *gorgeous*, but running at 800X600 and all settings at minimum is a surefire way to sabotage the experience
Available extensions don't make a product bloated. They provide the opportunity to bloat it up if the user so desires it.
Similarly, my offer of companionship last night doesn't make your mom a whore. What - huh? We're only supposed to do car analogies? Well, we were in her car when opportunity knocked.
The Canadian GG has the power to veto laws (by not signing), but the power is largely symbolic, and has never been used. On the other hand, the GG has forced a Prime Minister to resign, refused to dissolve parliament, and recently (she) prorogued a parliamentary session in order to avoid a call for elections just two months after the previous government was instated.
BTW, we now prefer royal assent. Under the old system of royal accent, it was annoying to have the GG proclaim after every passed bill, "Oh, jolly good then. Capital job. Right-O. Carry on then."
That might be a bit of a localisation issue. The American version of Monopoly has things like Vermont, Tennessee, and Virginia, with Old Kent and Mayfair nowhere to be found.

I've visited Germany a few times, and you can hardly walk to the corner store without tripping over a holocaust museum. The people will generally express their communal embarrassment over this sad part of their history, and the government has gone to great lengths to both preserve the memory of this atrocity, and to make repayments where still possible. Nazi paraphernalia is forbidden there because they do not want Nazism to be glorified or take root again, not because they want to sweep the past under the rug.
That contrasts *very* sharply with other countries I've been to in Europe.
Your teacher either had some sort of grudge to bear, or is an idiot.
Exactly. And if you want to save some travel, install a remote-desktop app so that if they need a quick install of something you approve of, it's only a strong password and "allow RD" request away.

A - You're talking about CS students here. No need to include the possibility of "she."
B - Is that you, Tiger?

Yes. Excellent. The country with a government-enforced duopoly over internet/telecommunications.
Is this really the kind of news that we need on the front page? NEWS for nerds, anyone?
I've been exclusively reading Slashdot news all day, and not even one is remotely interesting enough to *hurk* *ack* *ug.*

Of course... CBS is more likely to be comprised of horses.

You bet it does, and it doesn't retard your system at all. Oh, and first post, by the way!

If "optimization" includes updates and service packs, then that would largely explain the resultant drop in system speed.
As a 3 yo lesbian, father of seven, socialist COBOL programmer, I'm not sure which of your stated attributes qualify you to be racially offended.

The last time I read dialog this moralistic and improbable was in a Watchtower tract from the Jehovah's Witnesses.
Not that the error detracts from the humour of your statement -- but fixed that for ya.
Ironically, the famous and brave Chuck Norris always posts as an Anonymous Coward.
This is because he wanted his UID to be his strength expressed as a percentage, but unfortunately, slashdot doesn't support UIDs in the billions.
Not what they expected when the navy asked for "sub-standard" chips

That's a lot less royalty for ringtone sales of the ever-popular-with terrorists "Leavin' on a Jet Plane."
