Having a grand old time huh? Is that why most of the children growing up today have to get remedial teaching in math, especially geometry and spacial processing? I have a friend who is working with kids, who because they spend too much time playing with 2 dimisional video games and not enough time playing outside and with real toys, are unable to understand the relationships of geometric objects.
Right, the Saturn was truly a next-gen system but the PS3 doesn't look substantially more impressive than the PS2. That might change if the devs figure out how best to use the complicated hardware, but if things keep going the way that they're going, who's going to bother?
That chart doesn't really make me feel any better about the PS3's price, the only consoles more expensive on the adjusted chart are stuff like the Neo Geo (rich, niche market), the failed "multimedia" consoles like the CD-i, and the pre-1980 stuff that was ahead of its time. The only comparable (meaning, not niche) console that was more expensive than the PS3, even after adjusting price for inflation is the Saturn, which failed in the US.
The tech community has been talking about the Wii non-stop because of the puzzling name. That's great publicity. It matters far far more that people hear and talk about the name than whether they like it.
I see, OK. Office has always had a lot of great features, but the interface has been so horrible that it's impossible to find any of it unless you're an expert. Office 2007's UI is being completely redesigned to be intuitive and clear, so all those invisible things experts can do with Office seem to be apparent now.
Online office tools like google's are nice for individuals but small businesses require a lot of interoperability, decent printing features (good luck with web apps), and better formatting if they do any kind of light publishing at all, even just in-house reports.
You want me to write a few paragraphs on this? Are you cracked?
Office 2007 isn't even finished yet, in no way should a company that small make this decision without more information. Office 2007 looks cool, but it could just as well be a clunker, this is all just speculation, not a fucking homework assignment.
YES. He's a huge prick and an amazing asshole. It is NOT A SCHTICK and it does disrespect to Harlan and anyone to whom he was genuinely an amazing asshole to suggest that it is an act along the lines of Penny Arcade comics.
It wasn't the Star Wars thing that made me pissed off, but they way these guys compared Harlan's "schtick" to their comics. They're insisting that Harlan's angry public persona is just an act, and criticize him for not confining his bitterness to his work. Fuck them.
Most people who have previewed Office 2007 will tell you that it's actually really cool. Office has always had great features, and it's finally getting a decent UI (which it needs BADLY). Google is making a lot of headway with online apps, but online apps will never replace Microsoft's full featured office suite, especially in business where it really matters.
Jesus christ, the physics are fucking impressive for an RPG. They can only put so much effort and manhours into Oblivion, and with the ENORMOUS AMOUNTS OF GAME CONTENT I'm surprised they even got a physics engine that is as fun as it is. True physics would have been nice, OK, but not worth the time. I mean, developers will release a game solely on the merits of its physics engine (see: Black) so it's not something that's trivial to add...
The data in this study was gathered before the sony rootkit story had broken (if it is the same branding satisfaction study posted previously on slashdot).
Education is pretty fucking important to anyone involved in the economy (which is to say, everyone), and saying "Why is XXX filling in for the education system?" is pretty much sticking your head in the sand. NASA needs the six year olds of today to be educated so they have a pool to draw from 15-20 years from now.
I mean, jesus christ, you are basically criticizing an organization for trying to educate simply because they are not a school. Why?
Daggerfall was just way too ambitious, it was unplayable due to bugs and the random dungeons. But that ambition is what makes the TES series great, it just can't necessarily work every time.
Daggerfall was even _more_ ambitious than Morrowind or Oblivion, it tested the limits of what you could do with an open ended RPG and made the last two in the series possible.
Console/Japanese RPGs almost all have completely different gameplay and feel from PC RPGs. Soren Johnson must only like the PC kind, and there really aren't many good ones that have come out since Morrowind.
What's condescending is not that we're pointing out that they live under censorship (which is true), but rather that we are implying that western media, corporations, and government can change things for the better.
It seems like these bloggers were trying to make a point about western idealists and media blowing this Chinese internet censorship totally out of proportion. China does not allow the same individual rights as Western countries, and American corporations do business in China. That shouldn't really be a story, but it's a gigantic story. Maybe it's a good thing that Western media and idealists are using this story to try to make change happen across the world, but if I were Chinese I'd imagine I'd find it more than a little condescending.
That's not a critique, that's hype. Some previews are critical but it's pretty rare, and it's usually along the lines of "The only thing we wish they would add is multiplayer, but we're going to have to wait and see."
You can configure a Sony Vaio Z with a 13" 1920x1080.
Well, that's what the Wii is for...

Wouldn't this just cause Texan gamers to order online even more often, shutting down game retailers in Texas?

Harlan is a pisser, not a pissant. Huge difference.
I wish Harlan would have throttled that pissant.
Maybe, but it's not where most of the revenue comes from.

Yes, XBOX 360 also has online distribution and cheaper prices for some games. So? What's your point?
