This would be a clear cut case of fraud. Since the tax was imposed for a specific reason and obviously has not been used for that in the last 100 years or so, someone should go after the Federal Govt for fraud. Now that would be interesting.

It isnt that far fetched either, say your local community imposed an extra $20 on property taxes to be used for technology in schools and in reality it was used to buy a new Benz as a "govt vehicle" for the mayor, there would be significant problems.

Customs wont even care unless you have a suitcase full of them. And even then it wouldnt be copyright infringement, they would be more concerned about the tariff you owuld need to pay. you can bring a few cds in you bought overseas without a problem. bring in a hundred copies and you cant really claim they are all for you. ie personal use is fine, distribution requires you to pay up. copyright infringement would hardly enter the picture at any time. the same concept can be applied to narcotics when purchased legally elsewhere. but for a better "normal" example... how about cuban cigars. they are legal in well all of the world outside of the US but you cant bring them here. technically it is illegal for a US citizen to buy them outside of the US and smoke them in say Spain.

If they find a student talking about drinking or smoking etc on a blog, they school's authority to do anything about it is limited to possible athletic code violations (which doesnt matter to most students anyways). School's attempt to extend their authority, but in reality they can be told no, and no punishment will be brought down that will stand. If I blogged about something and was called in, (everything happening outside of school), I would tell them that, and then I would leave. If they wanted to press the matter, they would have a world of issues to deal with. A blog post wont be enough evidence for criminal proceedings (for something trivial like drinking) so why does these idiots at this school expect to police people outside of school. On the flip side, I would absolutely love for a school district that instituted the concept of "you can get into trouble for things that happen outside of school" to be sued for failing to protect their students outside of school. They cant expect to have the authority over students, if they do not have the responsibility of them too. Piece of cake, tell the principals to go to hell if the act was outside of school and that is that.

Hell, my traffic lawyer had me sign a piece of paper and cut him a nominal fee saying he was representing me, that was in regards to a minor traffic accident (his fee was all of $150).

The problems Russia is facing with piracy are mass production piracy outfits that bootleg dvds by the hundred thousand, not a website that actually is legal under Russian law and can no long be considered a loophole (it would have been "fixed" by now otherwise)

RIAA and MPAA want crackdowns on the real pirates that are selling bootlegs produced in quantity. Legal manuvering can take care of allofmp3.com by making them cough up more and through a bit of treaty work that makes the copyright cartel in Russia pay up.

allofmp3.com is like a fly compared to what is going on in Russia to the RIAA. a non entity when there are bigger problems to deal with. They probably have another 3-5 years before any real changes occur that will matter.
