Yeah, same sort of experience here with the HTC EVO. Can't really complain. HTC\Sprint even released a full 2.3 version (complete with ability to remove some bloatware) although by then I was using a Synergy ROM instead as it added some of the newer Sense UI stuff. Thing is, the EVO was a top phone a year ago but is barely able to run Gingerbread with all the new Sense UI stuff now (yes, I know, I can go with CM7 to get a snappier experience but I prefer the Synergy ROM's as they are stable as hell, have good battery life with the right kernel and everything works) so I wouldn't even want HTC to continue to update it. In addition, my Sprint store has never balked at my rooted phone even when I needed my device replaced due to the MicroUSB port failing on an early revision of the phone. I'd say that is a pretty dang good experience; two updates, two new kernels, full customization possibilities, great dev community, tons of mods.

yes, excellent advice. The goodandevo.net tutorial is well thought out and straight forward. If someone follows that they'll be fine. EVO's are actually really hard to brick it turns out. Once rooted you can just leave as stock but remove the shovelware to get a feel for it or you can be daring and install a different rom with a better kernel etc. I highly recommend Myn's Warm 2.2 myself with the Netarchy kernel recommended. Battery life is twice as good as it was on the stock rom (for me at least). Once you've got root and install one of the recovery tools through Rom Manager you then can do true backups and recoveries (so nothing is lost no matter what happens) plus easy rom flashes if you want to try different roms. Anyway, I was hesitant for too long (it was my company's phone) but once I did it I can't believe I waited as it is easy and so much better

again, what the heck does "wrong on its face" mean? It is empty rhetoric. If you want to mention specific items that you think are wrong, great. I may even agree with you. But, if you want to not read something and then dismiss it outright as just being wrong then to me you have no ground to stand on. People are losing health insurance left and right or their rates are skyrocketing. Should we just let the status quo remain? What are your ideas for fixing this serious problem? The only one I've heard from Republicans is Tort reform. Sure, sounds good. That maybe takes care of a few percentage points of the costs that are bringing the system slowly to its knees but that only will slow the catastrophe down a year or two in the long run. Any other ideas from the Republicans? From you?

The old "nobody has read" argument. Very convincing. And, BTW, rebuilding 17% of the US economy doesn't have to be a bad thing if that part of the economy is unsustainable. If private enterprise did it you'd think that was progress because they know better but if government tries to do it they are an oppressive regime. Please, go back to your inflammatory, unhelpful water cooler then. Obama may be abusing the FoIA stuff and he and congress might end up making mistakes with healthcare and each individual point should be debated but the broad accusations when I'm guessing you haven't read the bill either is not behaving any better.
