But how do you prove intent? That's what I am saying, it's a slippery slope, today you move an inch, tomorrow you move another inch, next thing you know, you are miles away. It's similar to the whole PC movement, now people can take offense in any little thing you say and some light hearted comments are viewed as harmful.
Well, for example, if I went to your restaurant and you gave me crap service, I go to the local citysearch and blast you for it. Now you can turn around and sue me and say "Well, we serve hundreds of people per day and only you posted online to complain about it". I know they are not gonna win like that but just the threat of the lawsuit is enough to discourage people from saying things like that online.
How bout if you beat me up in the school yard and I posted that your are a bully on myspace? Can you sue me for doing that assuming I have no proof of you beating me up?
who thinks this is dangerous? I mean, didn't we see the news of someone who got convicted for posting negative comments online? Where does the line stop? Next thing you know, any type of negative opinion can be sued and we all know ALL of us are gonna get in trouble for the stuff we crap out on/.
A private school in San Antonio.... I venture to guess it maybe Trinity University? It's a fairly conservative school from what I heard, pretty good academic reputation tho....
I strongly disagree on that one, Stanford has one of the best sports program in the country and we all know they are smart like hell. The University of Texas (the real one, not the fakers up in DFW area, j/k) is voted to have the best sports program in the country by CNNSI and our academic programs aint shabby either. The only school that's really good at sports but sucks at everything else is FSU, but in most cases, just having good sports program doesn't equate to having bad academic standard. And with strong sports programs, you really get to feel strong school spirits and unity, I enjoy the fact that I can go around the country, walk into a sports bar during a football game and instantly find my fellow longhorns cheering for our team. That's something my friends from UNT, UTA, UTD and many other schools without strong programs are lacking.
What? We had good (AND FREE) broadband connection before we won anything in football. When I was there, they started to charge people to use internet connection in dorms, limited bandwidth (4 gig per port per month as i remember) and started to become the lapdog of MPAA and RIAA and turned against their own students! At least we still have the cheap MS softwares.
"Korean autonomous zone" or some such nonsense that's really part of the Chinese empire
WTF? Chinese empire? Last time I checked, the last two countries that got invaded were Iraq and Afghanistan, and both were done by the hands of the Americans. What is this, the Yellow Horde theory? Just because the Chinese are not the lapdogs like the Brits, they are trying to form a 'Empire' now? I would say look at your own action in Washington before you start calling out other country like that.
Well a few things here
1. Google is buying out their biggest rival in google video, by adding the huge library and viwership, google video will be the place to go for anything related to videos online and give the already high traffic on google related services a boost
2. But it still doesn't solve the copyright problems google is going to face with RIAA and MPAA
3. This tatic (buying out competitor) sounds a lot like something MS would do, is this a sign that google is finally in a stage of major corporation like MS?
Hey, in US of A, we have been doing that for years and look at how we are now! High national debt, low health care coverage, poor people stay poor on welfare that covers only fatty food, failing basic education systems and tax cut for rich people!
That thing is gonna cost you nearly $300 US a pop AND you have to purchase a software to use it. Way too much for your everyday user (hiker/boy scouts) IMHO, I can see a nitch market but somehow I don't see this product to take off anytime soon. However, I do like the concept or marking the photographs with geographical locations but unless they start to have built-in GPS system inside the everyday point-and-click cameras, I don't see it becoming very popular.
The term 'dumping' is usually only applicable to international trade and that's when a country sells goods to another country at a price below cost. The aim for such tatics is usually to destory another country's economy therefore it's usually viewed in negative light. In this case, I don't think the word 'dumping' applies since it's a common practice to sell hardware for cheap and try to gain profit from selling software (xbox and pretty much all gaming consoles).
I would call this a simple price war, which is good for us.
Would you still be critical if you find out they are working on getting net neturality law passed in congress? Or they are working to protect Google from government information request? I am all for the end justifies the mean, as long as end is a good end. In politics, you have to play dirty or you lose, so basically you have the option of furthering your (hopefully rightous) agenda by using some political tricks or let other people push their own agenda? All the rah rah hippie crap maybe have good intentions, but it takes some serious political hired gun to get anything done in this country.
It's a simple choice, do people want their food, clothes, home and in US, cars in peace or do they want abstract yet important things such as freedom and choices. You hear it all the time at places like Russia and Afghanistan, they whine and bitch about how they want freedom from opression but when they have it, they miss the old governement's ability to provide security and basic needs. I am not saying one is more important than the other, but you have to admit that it's human nature to want something physical than abstract.
Isn't this the same excuse China gave for regulating internet? So FCC is taking a page out of China's playbook of how to restrict information? Well, at least they are learning from one of the biggest censor in the world. I am so tired of all these "Why won't you think about the children?" crap, if we let these people run things, next thing we know, the children will watch nothing but Barney on PBS.
I am choking with joy when I saw the new iPod Nano, I got my nano a bit less than a year ago but I am seriously considering about ditching it (battery life is less than 8 hrs now) and get the new 8 gig version. But where is the iPod phone and full screen ipod people were hyping about?! Especially stuff like these! http://www.apple-style.com/laboratory/
Why consoles are better for your everyday average people who can't setup their own VCR/DVR. Gaming on PC is soooo much easier today comparing to just a few years ago. With DirectX and other software standard, am I the only one who remembers how to modify config.exe and adjust EMM386 to get more memory for the game?
it's not as bad as I have expecetd, if you talk strickly on stability, i would say it's as stable as my XP machine. But again, I am only using my vista machine to do the most simple tasks such as office and image applications as well as surfing the web. The reason it's not ready for the prime time is because I feel they still need to work out a lot of the functionality bugs and make the UI easier to use. If nothing else, it sure is a pretty OS comparing to XP but still not as good as OSX
I also don't mind that my coworker surfs the net all day in the cube next to me (as long as the speakers are off) but I sure the hell would if she chats on the phone all day (She does both).
IMHO, if you get the jobs and tasks assigned to you done, you should be able to utilize those other time until 1) Your manager assigns you more tasks or 2) You start to have a negative effect on other's work.
While I won't argue with anyone who blocks porn or even game sites, but some places block blog sites where I can find a lot of useful tech information and that just sucks.
I went to Terrence's website on Standford and looked over his classes and homework assignments and I didn't understand ANYTHING. I guess that's what you get for taking a leet professor in a leet college.
One interesting note tho, he did say you will pass his class if you just show up, but your letter grade will depend on your homework, I wondering if that's how it works in a ultra high level class like that

Nobel Prize in Chemistry - Discontinued.
What? How bout the guy who managed to create artifical holy water within 90% of holiness?
How about the guy who managed to found the original chemical compond of the blood rain?
And don't forget the guy who generated talking fire while burning bushes?
Hey, in US of A, we have been doing that for years and look at how we are now! High national debt, low health care coverage, poor people stay poor on welfare that covers only fatty food, failing basic education systems and tax cut for rich people!
And I was thinking 'Damn, i need to learn another software package!'

Maybe they'll just become better at using encryption.
Three words "ONE" "TIME" "PAD"

Yep, just like the tabs they call 'Ribbens' in Office 2007
it would give a whole new meaning to the phrase "Blue screen of death"
