Well, maybe not to the extreme of making people go thru military services to earn the right to vote, but at least revoke the right of those who agreed to give up their right to vote. As a newly naturalized citizen, the price i paid to vote is years of immigration processes and interview and I am gonna damn make sure I get my vote in when the time comes.
EMI is actually a bit less mainstream comparing other major music label like Sony, and maybe that's why they are the first willing partner of this new system.
My biggest concern is RIAA start to 'encourage' kitties to 'pirate' those music and turn around use that as DRM-good examples. Since EMI is the first one to break rank, it wouldn't hurt to punish them that way as well.
IMO, it's not going to kill the ipod, I mean, iphone and ipods are still two different devices. I am not going to use my iphone on a long flight to watch movies or listen to music and I am not gonna carry my ipod around when I am taking a quick trip using subway or buses. The biggest difference, for me, is I can accept having a ipod running out of battery and I can not accept a dead iphone. Until they can somehow manage to get the battery life of the iphone up to par with ipod, I don't see it really being a 'killer' for ipod. That's why I was so excited when I heard to rumor that iphone would have two batteries, one for phone and one for the mp3 player and sorely disappointed when i found out it wasn't true.
I think Bill is taking an interesting attacking vector on iPod and by extension, ITMS. One of the biggest advantage of iPod is the easy to use/buy functionalities built into ITMS, and if people get away from ITMS and start using un-DRMed/self-ripped format such as mp3 (or God awful WMA), it's actually going to take a major advantage away from iPod therefore giving Zune a fighting chance (slim, but better than none).
It's about the marketing machine, not the actual process of printing and shipping CDs to stores anymore. Those costs are cheaper than ever, what's really driving up the cost for the industry is similar to what's driving up the costs for professional sports, salary and marketing costs. In order to get the 'next big thing', companies have to pay more and more to sign established and even 'up and coming' artists to bigger and bigger contracts. They also have to pay for the ever increasing costs to pay radio stations to play their tunes (i know it's illegal, but you know they do it) and get their artists on MTV. The ever increasing costs of filming music videos (you think those girls shake their ass at you for free?) And since the 'artists' are getting less and less talented, the production costs are going higher and higher as well. And that is one thing that iTune and all the internet technology can not change.
The establishment has the connection with radio, magazine, and TV to promote their artists, and they want to get paid for spending millions of dollars on marketing their products. It's no different from fashion industry or any other marketing driven companies, they sell stuff by making it artificially popular. For me, this is no different from talking with their suppliers (artist) to cut down the cost.
How about this? Instead of actually storing all the video on your iPod, maybe someday (soon) we can have access to all of the world's video on Internet (youTube + google video).
I recently installed ubuntu on my laptop and I was really surprised how easy it was. I didn't have to download any driver and/or patches like I would usually do for the XP, the OS is speedy and the interface is clean. Now with googleOS, it would be easy for them to make something even smaller and easier to use. All they need to do is to integrate the OS with all the google services (g-mail, g-doc, picasa, etc.) and walla, you have a fully functional google OS. I find myself relying more and more on online resources instead of the traditional desktop softwares, the only thing I don't see how they can work online is gaming, which right now is pretty much Windows exclusive.
From what I have heard from various sources (including NPR), the decision was made before the election during an infighting between the actual Republicans and NeoCons, since neocons basically lost this election, the actual Republicans demanded his replacement, Bush made a concession by agreeing to replace Donny but not before the election.
If Lieberman switched parties now and declared himself a middle-ground republican, and could run as VP with McCain on the republican presidential ticket for 2008, they could win bigtime, even squash Hillary with ease. Don't think that this scenario isn't going thru both Lieberman and McCain's heads right now.
I disagree, if that happens, the Republican ticket will sink so fast it won't even be funny! Can you imagine the attack from both sides Lieberman is going to attrack? He will be viewed as a traitor by Democrates, poser by Republicans and flopper by the middle. And let's not forget his ability to lose a national election that can only be surpassed by John Kerry. All I have to say to the Democrates is they better not fuck this up, they got the nation handed to them on a plate, it's not going to be as easy the next election.
It's creepy, it reminds me the scene from Minority Report where they can your eye and pull out all your personal purchasing information. Asking you "How did you like that Windows XP you purchased?" (it sucked). But somehow I can see this becoming a trend as the printing technology grow, I mean, this is what google is basically doing, right?
I believe the best sign of an addiction is what happens when you remove something from the addicted. Now, can you imagine if someday the 'Internet' goes down? I don't mean that I can't surf at home, I mean when I am at work, I can't communicate with my co-workers via e-mail, I can't access web applications and online data, etc etc.
We, as a society, is addicted to Internet as we are addicted to foreign oil and electricity (and I don't mean the same way Bender was addicted to electricity).
But what if we need to rise up again against some type of authority that abuses its power? What if the day when everyday citizen will need to protect themselves from the authority? Look at what's going on in U.S. today, is it really that unthinkable that we can no longer trust the people who are suppose to be our 'representatives' in the government??
You suck! I want a job at MS or Google! I want to move to Bay Area or Seattle (but Seattle is better), but from what I have heard from friends working at MS, things are not as great as they thought (I mean comparing to the rest of us, their condition is still way better) but I don't have the good fortune to know anyone working for google.
But now, think like this....
MS is a mature company with a large number of employees and considerable corporate culture. While google is still at a stage of relative youth with smaller number of staff. So in term of growth, I think you get ahead faster in google comparing to MS. But again, this is strictly an opinion from experiences with other major corporations.
You know, MLB.com had this problem a few years ago when it was owned by some law firm. Their solution is simple, have a really simple front page saying "If you are looking for the video site YOUtube, click on the link, if you are looking for used hardware, click on Utube It will save them some trouble in the short run, but my question is shouldn't this be happening all along since youtube is popular BEFORE google decided to buy it out?

Yah, but you actually get a business card with the title of "Astronaut".

I would hope one million dollars laptop will get you lifetime upgrade option.. .. A new hardwares spec every 6 month?

I am sorry, the word Cisco has been ruined since that no talent hack rapper came out using the same (sounding) name

Without all the items you have listed, you will wipeout 90% of the Sci-Fi shows out there (with possible except of BSG, God bless that show.. ..)

While you are at it, where is Regina Lynn?
Helping geeks get laid everywhere!
You know, that may not be that far away from the truth (I know I know, not happening right now, but 10 yrs from now.. ..)

George Bush science advisor? Science consultant for Fox News? Science teacher for Kansas?

Hey, that movie will be a milestone in movie making, the entire movie is gonna be shot in slow motion!

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that kinda what's happening in the story anyway?
