If there isn't enough ammo to issue you any, you'll still be issued a firearm for whenever you -do- get ammo, and you'll be expected to carry the rifle around with you everywhere. You stupid stupid STUPID cunt.

Once you recoup your development costs, then it's almost ALL profit. You still have to pay for producing discs and packaging, but a $1000 DVD of Photoshop will cost roughly the same to physically manufacture as a $50 game. Why do you think software goes down in price over time, notably in digital distribution? Services like Steam don't have to worry about shelf-space, so once the developers break even, they can afford to lower the price to entice more customers. A lower profit per unit is certainly better than none at all.

*puts on tinfoil hat* I think it's simply collusion; rather than fairly competing with each other in regards to SMS prices, the U.S. telcos simply keep their prices roughly the same, as high as they can get away with. It feels like so many Americans prefer to be ignorant of the rest of the world, that we just think it's expected that SMS messages cost an arm & a leg to send and receive, unless you get a package. Call me a cheapskate, but I'm not going to spend as much as my internet connection, just to be able to send and receive one-sentence (if even that) messages.

Also, prices per text are so high because the telcos want everyone to sign up for texting plans. Do you honestly think everyone uses $20+ each month for the data transfer of SMS messages? The telcos are just milking the cash cow for all it's worth.

What REALLY burns my butter is when 'friends' just don't get the fact that I don't have an unlimited-texting plan, and -I- pay for every one of their inane "wat u doin" texts. The only saving grace is when my attractive female friends start drinking and decide to send pictures of various body parts. (Can you say potential blackmail material?)

THANK YOU. Being in support units (Army btw), I've always been in mixed-gender environments, except for Basic & AIT. When we'd do PT, it's mixed-gender. Sometimes a male would lead it, sometimes a female. Everyone would be expected to try their hardest, and during runs we all had the same distance/time goal. Yet when it comes to the Army Physical Fitness Test, there are separate male & female standards. I can max the female scale, but I'm rather average on the male scale.

If we're expected to do the same things day-to-day, there should only be one standard. During AIT I was on the all-male night-shift, and the drill sergeants were able to push us harder. When we combined with the mixed-gender day-shift, it was apparent which guys were day-shift. I feel there should just be PT standards for male-only units vs. mixed-gender.

Bootlegging DVDs may not be as frequent in Russia, but at least in Iraq & Afghanistan it's booming on/near military bases. In 2004 I saw copies of "Shaun of the Dead" at an Afghani bazaar, and when I went home on leave around September, there were previews of it in the theaters. I was able to watch "300" on Iraqi DVD while it was still in theaters, and "Transformers" ten days after it premiered in the U.S. (the discs may have arrived earlier, but not all bases have DVD merchants. The quality varies wildly, but "300" was DVD-quality, and "Transformers" looked like it was done with a tripod (even though a couple people walked in front of the camera at times).

Whoever supplies the local merchants pays attention to demand, also. In early 2005, the Afghani bazaars started offering PS2 and Xbox games (required mod-chips, though), and anime started trickling in.

It may be copyright infringement, but deployed soldiers won't ever have the option of seeing most of those movies in a theater. I may be the minority, but I've seen some movies on bootleg DVDs, and ended up buying an authentic copy when it came to the PX.

DISCLAIMER: I can neither confirm nor deny purchasing bootleg DVDs, even if they only cost $4-5, less if you buy a bunch.

  22. Intellectual Property Protection Act on Bill Would Criminalize Attempted IP Infringement · · Score: 1

I recently put my money where my mouth is & emailed my rep, Jay Inslee. I honestly can't tell whether or not this is a stock reply (maybe I should encourage some friends to write him, and see the replies), but it shows that he at least acknowledges his constituents' communications. Also, it seems interesting how he notes that it would be beneficial to the music industry, but makes no mention of putting his constituents' best interests first.

As far as I can tell, the Intellectual Property Enhanced Criminal Enforcement Act of 2007 looks like some sort of mutation of the Intellectual Property Protection Act, as they appear to do the same thing, but IANAL.

    Dear Mr. ______:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the administration's draft proposal for the Intellectual Property Protection Act of 2007. I appreciate hearing from you.

I agree that it is important to keep the rights of consumers in mind as we work to address concerns from copyright holders about the unfair use of their intellectual property. It is my privilege to represent a region renowned for its cutting edge technology in Congress. Please be assured that I will continue to support innovation in this new era.

As you know, the Department of Justice has recently released a draft proposal for reform of existing intellectual property protections under US law. The proposed Intellectual Property Protection Act of 2007 would expand criminalization of copyright infringement to include those that attempt to commit a crime, rather than just prosecuting those who actually complete the crime. The law would also permit wiretaps to locate and convict those who are "attempting" to commit copyright infringement. This bill is widely seen as being highly beneficial to the recording industry and would do a great deal to limit copyright infringement of musical recordings.

I also believe we need to allow for fair use of protected content while preventing illegal piracy. As new technologies are developed, we must work diligently to strike a balance between preserving fair use principles for consumers and protecting intellectual property. Unfortunately, I am not a Member of the House Committee on the Judiciary, which has jurisdiction over this matter. However, as a Member of the House Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet, I will continue to look for ways to protect innovation in reviewing legislation that pertains to digital technology during the current 110th Congress.

Please continue to contact me about the issues that concern you, as I both need and welcome your thoughts and ideas. As a service to my constituents, I maintain a website which contains valuable resources and information on Congressional activities. Please feel free to visit the website at http://www.house.gov/inslee for information on recent issues and to learn more about the services my office provides. If you have not done so already, please visit http://www.house.gov/inslee/signup.htm to subscribe to my e-mail updates.

I encourage you to contact me via email, telephone, or fax, because security measures are causing House offices to experience delays in receiving postal mail. My email address is: Jay.Inslee@mail.house.gov. Please be sure to include your full name and address, including your zip code, in your message.
