Not only are people going to not want to do this, but does buying a new power supply realyl save that much power than using an old inefficient one? This might make sense for larger appliences like fridges, but how much power does it take to make a new power supply (not to mention the power used to DESIGN a new, more efficient one). Hard to believe that the brake even point on this is that close that it would actually help. If people realyl cared (which is what would nede to happen for them to even buy new devices), they would just SWITCH OFF the power strips these devices are all plugged into. If you realyl want to solve this problem, design devices like TVs to keep the programming even if turned off. I would hit the power strip off if I didn't have to reprogram the channels every time I plug it back in!

Actually, the tC has a scroll/click knob that acts like the dial on the ipod and lets you scroll through the menus and playlists on the head unit just like you do on the ipod. It's not a USB interface; it's a proprietary cable, although I have heard some other MP3 players offer an accessories that let them inerface like an ipod.

  18. OEM (&Aftermarket) Car integration on The Latest iPod Assassination Attempt · · Score: 1
My girlfriend's tC came with an iPod dock. The list of new cars that don't offer ipod integration (at least as an option)is quickly becoming shorter than the list of cars that do. For that reason alone, I think the iPod is not going anywhere, and to many people, the ability to plug it into their car and then pick songs and control it vie their stereo (and, in most case, right off the steering wheel) without having to look away from the road is a HUGE selling point.

I think the only way ANY manufacturer could overcome that is if a large number of companpiens developed some interface standard, or made some easy way to integrate their players to car stereos (and other acessories) out of the box. That would also let companies make interfaces to things like older CD changers to retrofit the new standard on older vehicles, too. Then they might have a chance of putting a dent in iPod sales.

As it is, the only people I know buying non-iPod players are parents whose kids want an iPod but don't want to spend the money on it, and figure an mp3 player is an mp3 player.

So, insurance companies seem to be finding more and more ways and reasons to increase rates. They already check your credit, and charge you more since, according to them, peopel with bad credit are more likely to get into accidents. I wonder if this will be used as a reason to charge a higher rate on vehicles that come with Nav as a factory option. Could be a good thing for aftermarket nav systems, but not such a good thing for those peopel who are smart enough to have the passenger program it, do it while stopped, or program it via voice (although, that might arguably be almost as distracting). Of course, I am sure if the insurance companies chagre more for it, they'll offer a discount if you give them access to any GPS data stored in the units....

Very few people will probably crack any of the versions, and those are the people that probably won't pay for the basic version. You also assume that the feature are present and can be unlocked; more than likely they won't even be there in the cheaper versions.

I think part of the reason MS is doing this is so that people will feel like they have more "choices" and feel like they can get just what they need without all that "stuff only businesses need" and get the cheaper version of windows. Then they'll realize later they need to upgrade, and spend more on that than if they would've just bought the Uiltimate version to begin with.

And plenty of businesses will upgrade after MS stops supporting whatever they are running now, or when any new PCs they buy will come with OEM versions of Vista and they don't want to support multiple OSs accross the company...
