    True, but business needs dictate software requirements. So that decision is out of my hands (but believe me, I'd LOVE to run an office full of Linux computers)...

    Interesting.
    We're forced to use Windows on Dell laptops, though I can see no business needs for it, nor any technical requirements (SaaS suites are used, and our various applications are almost all running on some Unix derivative). Our Exec team are all using OSX, showing that non-techies are quite able to do their business without Windows. Even then, there is no way in hell we'll get away from Windows, and almost as little chance we'd get away from Dell even if everyone in Internal IT hates Dell.

    Parent is likely American - locales outside the timezones covered by the US-of-A does not exist unless reported on by Fox, and then only for the duration of said reporting. Locales inside aforementioned timezones are part of the US-of-A, Canada or Mexico.

    I suspect Jail being a milder punishment - whoever said "no computers the next 30 years" seems to expect that life is livable without computers over that timeframe. In several countries TODAY, not having a computer, or access to computers, is a real hindrance. No access to government aid (reporting/filing online), no finding jobs (Jobcenters almost completely computerized9, no banking (Bank terminals = computers).

    Seems to be a simple solution:
    buy 5 different kinds, from 5 different manufacturer and with different colour-specs .. hook them all up together.

    Not only is it likely that 1 of them has the light you expect, you get a wider spectrum, and more brightness.

    Eh, no they don't - my MB Air w/SSD and 2gig ram takes at least as long as my Dell E6400 with regular HD and 4gig ram to come out of hybernation*. Out of Sleep-mode, the two are about equal.

    *: Seems there is no volunteer way to enter Hybernation on OSX - only the forced kind when running very low on power.

    Is common for people to give the answers they think is socially correct when faced with a poller, instead of the answer that is truly correct. Example is pre-election polls, where people will say that they are going to vote for the popular-candidate-of-the-week, but when in the booth they vote the same way as last time.

    Actually, given that article is about the EU: Most of EU has laws that protects customers in these case.

    Example from Denmark:
    2 weeks to regret online/post-order purchases
    2 years warranty on all purchased electronics

    In later years, online-only stores have been neglecting these, and customers have had problems tracking down the owners for various reasons. Stores have rejected packages sent back, not responded to phone-calls etc. A physical store would(!) make it harder for the store to hide from customers were stupid enough to buy LaCi^H^H^H^Hshit-equipment.

    so, no, not a risk - just added hassle.
    (Note: I am not familiar with US laws covering e.g. BestBuy, but would expect there to be a central organization to whom you complain, or inform in case BestBuy was breaking the law)

    Makes it easier for buyers to go to a real place when the appl^h^h^h^shit-hardware they just bought* turns out to be failing for no apparent reason. We've had WAY too many cases in Europe where buyers have been left high-n-dry by internet-only "stores".

    *: Yeah, my USB-Ethernet just turned out be non-functional - yay, now to track down official representatives in Belgium.

    haha, but ...

    Why is there unpublished APIs available for 3rd parties of any kind to call without some kind of security-check? Why are MS allowing these unpublished APIs to be used, and could they possibly be removed for safety and sanity of systems?

    I can appreciate that some may be there for the OS to use, but would it be feasible for the APIs to include some kind of authentication model ensuring that only the proper software (MS's own OS) is using them?

    Just worried that there are bits and pieces of the system that aren't really documented, aren't safe and getting abused...

    First trip to the USA, I went to a burger-place in Mississippi (though, not a Wendy's) and right there and then I started to doubt my English-skills: I did not have the faintest idea what the woman at the till was saying to me! She was surely trying to articulate something, and the people before me had seemingly understood her, but it simply made no sense.
    Later during that trip I stayed a couple of days at the Manhattan Hostel, doing Christmas shopping in New York , and came to realize something: English is simply not a common language in the USA.

    You're saying that cups and quarts and sticks are real meassurements?!? Whenever I google a recipe and see "mix 2 cups of flour with 3 sticks of butter and a quart of cream", I always wonder what the heck the Americans are on...
    (1 package of butter is usually 250g, but not always - but if thatis a "stick", that is a LOT of butter!)

    Can Opera Software see my passwords and credit card numbers in clear text? What is the encryption good for then?
    The encryption is introduced to protect the communication from any third party between the client (the browser on your handset) and the Opera Mini transcoder server. If you do not trust Opera Software, make sure you do not use our application to enter any kind of sensitive information.

    Doesn't that also go for Firefox and IE? If you don't trust Microsoft, don't enter your bank-details into any of its programs.

    Now X rarely used feature is out in the open once you select the tab for what general thing you're trying to do - no more digging for it.

    Odd - I find that some of the more "rarely used" features are now missing. Got no examples at hand, but every so often I catch myself going through every square-pixel of the ribbons looking for some function I know exists in MS Office 2K4, only to not find it in the MS Office 2k7 ribbon ...
