Agreed. A few graphical updates.... i trust functionality will remain the same, why would it change? for profit? seriously, explain please.... Still, i get it. I bitched and moaned about google a few years back - to no avail of course. but let it go already people please!
I agree 100%. He went beyond just pissing off and embarrassing people. I was surprised at his relatively light sentence, and then it "came out" that he wants to live as a woman and be referred to as Chelsea. I don't buy this load of shit either.
Agreed on "The End of Faith". After I read it on my kindle I had to have the hard cover. I think his book "Free Will" did something to me...I'm still not sure what though! I have a hard time maintaining a grasp on that subject, but I do find it intriguing and possibly disturbing...I think...
Are we really that uptight these days?
"just no reason" to have their email addresses?...Map that logic onto every other medium of inter-human communication and there's suddenly no longer a "reason" to even know their names if they're underage.
I can imagine legitimate "reasons" he'd have those email addresses.
Wish we could be sensible about these things. Seems to me that more and more, we (as a species) continuously endeavor to be mindful of trespassing that which we never intended to violate in the first place, which at times is absolutely prudent, but damn, must we let the pervs and sickos completely thwart every element of our co-existence?
Guy made a (very unfortunate and embarrassing) mistake; it's a good idea to know FOR SURE to whom you're speaking in any situation in this day and age.
Ditto. In my experience this particular observation falls on absolutely deaf ears unless it's met with an eye-rolling chuckle. It's becoming increasingly difficult to be optimistic about the situation (for me anyway). Great post here.
I'm no fan of the Catholic church, but your hatred wrongs them, and the rest of all religions along with them. Religion has been, historically, one of the most philosophic endeavors civilizations would support. Intellectually driven people have been, as often as not, employed by 'the church.'
I want so badly to find something in this to stomp on, but I can't as it's pretty well worded. I suppose where I become uneasy is when I think about the fervency so many people seem to have when it comes to the defense of their respective religious beliefs. This topic comes up more and more on/. these days.
"Believing you cannot be affected simply because you are not currently an obvious target always seemed childishly naive to me. The Boy Scout motto is "Be Prepared". I cannot think of any way one's life could be bettered by doing otherwise".
I was working outside about three blocks west of the Murrah Bldg. in Oklahoma City on the morning of that attack. A family friend was lost then.
I'm with you nip - and the Boy Scouts.
I think that's an excellent point. When Limewire first came out, we were like "hell, I already paid for this years ago in cassette form so I already own it anyway, and since the cassette didn't hold up blah, blah...". While I still think that argument has merit, I can understand how the RIAA and the like are scrambling and grasping at whatever straw they can to profit in the market.
Your last sentence - hilarious!
Also when lightknight said "We have no idea if they can even eat / process the food currently available", I thought of Purina Dodo chow - also hilarious!
I heard that story on NPR back in March; weird!
I worked at a candy factory in Okla. City in the late 80's where I accidentally spilled an entire 55 gallon drum of molasses down an elevator shaft. A wheel on the flat four-wheeled dolly on which the barrel (a few hundred pounds) was riding hit a hole in the concrete floor, and the thing tipped over. With the barrel resting on it's side at the elevator threshold (the "door" being more of a wooden slat gate because this was an old factory warehouse, and the car was some floors above at the time), the top came off. The contents were inside a plastic liner bag which crept out of the barrel like a blob and ruptured as I yelled in vain for help. Since accidents like that always seem to happen in slow motion.....that took for eeeeeever!
Why should any of us, good or bad, fear the hereafter? I think it was Jim Jeffries who said something along the lines of: if you actually did all the stuff it takes to get you sent to hell, wouldn't that kind of make you like Satan's boy?
I didn't know Nye was so cool. I was raised catholic right in the center of the state of Oklahoma. I still harbor a fair amount of anger about the programming I received, so when he talks about not passing that crap on to one's children, I just....I would NEVER do that to a kid. It's pretty unforgivable when they (the religions) stand in the way of progress when it comes to embryonic stem cell research, etc. as well.
I agree. I'll openly admit that I spent almost exactly 5 months of this year using marijuana each and every day. I thought it would be as cool as I remember it being back in my twenties - it really wasn't. It was a habit, or pattern that I got into, one that I had no desire to continue. So, I quit. There were annoying withdrawal symptoms, including night sweats and loss of appetite. But, it was still easier to quit than cigarettes were 3 years ago. One thing that I found helped more than anything was to mimic taking a drag and holding it for a moment or two. Dependencies are not cool.
And we are still sending/programming thousands of kids over there every month.
I know you meant "they" and not "we" right? I support none of that shit.
Let those fuckers put me on a watch list. They can watch me raise two middle fingers in their direction.
ditto.

Love the idea! Turning an iPad into Apple sauce in a mosh pit....nice.

Kind of dating yourself there Jeremiah. I do applaud older folks who embrace technology like the interwebs though, congrats!
will probably just put on "shake, rattle and roll" and get tomato soup delivered anyway.
