  2. Re:Huh? on Perfect Silicon Sphere to Redefine the Kilogram · · Score: 1

But what abstraction is it supposed to be?
According to some googling.. 1000 times the mass of 1 cubic centimeter of water. But then that just comes back to the original problem with this definition. Pressure and temperature effect this definition.

So what are they aiming to set the kilogram as? Many SI units, and measurements we've made, are based around the international prototype.
Are they just trying to define the mass of the international prototype in terms of atoms?

  7. University Assignments on Some Journals Rejecting Office 2007 Format · · Score: 1
At my university a recent assignment used a submission system which required one of the files to be a .doc file.

Being an OpenOffice user, I found this annoying. Even more so when the tables in the document became very messy on export to .doc. It make much more sense for large achidemic organizations to use more global filetypes, such as OpenDocument formats or Portable Document Format.

Theres plenty of replies that make it seem that this machine will give you a 10 second video clip of the person imagining their intentions.

I think it would be more along the lines of finding which parts of the brain are active as they would be if the person was (for example) employing deception. Even then, finding the deception 'signature' of activity in the current thought would probably be quite uncertain.

Thats my thoughts on how it'd work. Likely I'm wrong, but still, it wont be give a video clip or anything so clear as that.
