  1. good to see.. on Circuit City Ripping DVDs for Users · · Score: 2

Its good to see someone that actually matters standing up. It would be even better to see them refuse to sell DVDs without being allowed to rip them for customers. I wonder if Circuit City actually sells enough DVDs for that to make a difference?

So basically we rip them just like audio CDs?

  3. Re:The solution is easy on Defining Clicks and Click Fraud · · Score: 2, Insightful

I think there would be even more problems with fruad paying per impression. Its extremely simple to make an advertisement invisible on a website. While being paid per impression webmasters have no incentive to actually let visitors see the advertisements. Which is why I suggest some sort of minimum impression / click ratio. The cost of 50 clicks guaruntees you 50 clicks AND 1000 impressions or whatever a decent click through ratio might be.

This way no website can have a 100% click through ratio, and if they did the companies would only be charged for 5% and the website would only be paid for 5% CTR.

I think these days locking people into an OS would be fairly simple.

A basic OS installed on minimal flash memory or even ROM that has NIC drivers.. as well as no way to attach external media. With the amount of bandwidth people have these days compared to the past it would be trivial to stream the main operating system and applications over the internet. Basically what Windows Live is meant to be..

Not exactly hack proof but stronger than simply formatting a large drive and installing a new OS.

Now doesnt that make anyone that has a "blog" have an online diary which is a synonym for an online journal? Therefor having a blog makes your a journalist. Otherwise it isn't a blog...

I'd def give it a shot if I wouldnt have to reboot every time I install an application.. thats why I'm usually at least a week or two behind on patches, I hate rebooting.

As a general user that doesn't know how to install programs on their own anyway and has issues doing simple things like sending an e-mail attachment there is no reason to run as admin. So for yourself or more savvy users I could recommend possibly running as admin and for the less-knowledgable without it.

Of course there is the 3rd case where people are able to do admin tasks and you don't want them to.. that one should be obvious though :)
