That's not good enough. We want it to be better than what a human driver would be able to work with. 40% of fatal accidents are at stop signs -- mostly side impact. That is, tens of thousands of people are killed in side impact collisions every year. Reference: https://safety.fhwa.dot.gov/in...
Anythng to eliminate that would be good. If a collision is imminent the early warning may help the car decide to speed up or brake such that the passenger compartment is safe. Having a camera in the B pillar may help ensure that the Tesla wasn't at fault but what good is that to the dead occupant?
The current hardware doesn't have side facing cameras (or lidar or radar) on the front sides of the car. There are cameras in the side front fenders (in the logo) but they are looking backwards. They need to have side cameras close to the front of the car and high up as possible because before proceeding onwards from a Stop sign you need to see what's coming at you from the left or right side. The camera mounted in the middle post of the windows doesn't have an adequate view.
We need an decent open source voice control platform. Also it should run locally. If it, or part of it, is going to be centralized it should be openly managed by a non-profit foundation or choice of foundations such as Apache, Mozilla, GNU, and Wikipedia. Thankfully it looks like Mozilla is stepping up to the plate. I hope we can support them so they get it done.
With automation you won't need UBi. You can just get the upcoming VW self driving electric ID van and drive around the country parking for a few days in one paper to let its solar panels charge your battery. If you don't own some land (to setup an indoor automated farm), you can forage for food or eat at the automated soup kitchens or get a fishing robot. As for showers.. hmm how do the wild animals do that? Ok you may have to trade things you foraged with people who know how to make soap. Internet? Mesh network with others. My point is in the robot utopia you may not need UBI. If it's there great. Everything will be fine as long as we have public land and nobody takes our rivers away. Vote wisely.
Eat a couple bites of it and if it causes me to keel over and have to go to the emergency room, then it is probably not a good idea to eat the rest unless it is tasty.
It's incredibly optimistic to think copyrights will ever run out. Do you think Disney will allow people to make new Mickey Mouse stories? Excuses will be made, and the law will be changed again. For Disney.
Do you realize that in 2005 you needed millions of dollars and the right people to build a phone? I put a link where I predicted back in 2005 large touchscreen phones would sell.
Apple is just slow. They original iPhone which came out in 2007 didn't even support video and 3G even though most existing smartphones supported it. How long did it take the iPhone to move to a large screen, even though I told them on slashdot as far back as 2005 that that's where things were moving: https://m.slashdot.org/thread/...
Openly calling someone inferior is creating a hostile workplace that is totally not in keeping with Google's interest. If you can't follow a company's courtesy rules you should be fired. I suppose if someone calls you an idiot at work you would be tolerant of it? I suppose you should be, right?
Where the fuck is the Raptor engine? How about an update on that? I am seriously interested in seeing a re-usable methane full flow staged combustion rocket engine.
What about the straw man of Anti GMO people saying all GMO is bad because of Monsanto and glyphosate. Literally only Monsanto says make a GMO monoculture. It's like saying eating all kinds of salad is bad because hemlock is dangerous.

They are claiming the tech will be open. I hope so. Open is the only way to do driverless tech. A bunch of different proprietary systems would suck. Especially when dealing with things like merging. Car to car and traffic device to car communication will be important. Although systems should be resilient of cars or devices that lie.
You seem to think typing up a document that says "henceforthwith hereby big ass lasers are banned" and getting it signed at the UN somehow prevents people from building one.
When you havw a moment of clarity and logical thoughts, ask yourself "How do you enforce this ban without the use of banned weapons?"
The laser beam itself, yes... But what about the tracking/aiming system latency and mount system? The gimbal has to track the trajectory precisely and slew with it. And that gets more complicated if the target is wobbling.

Not finding it might be a indicator that you looked in the wrong place Sherlock.
They are better off purchasing a few senators and congresscritters.
Either way, they shouldn't pretend they are doing their users a service.

A battery operated fidget spinner? Are you kidding me, is this for real? How lazy do you have to be?
Hmm.. where do I get one?

Is that good or bad? Because when it was happening it was considered bad.
I wonder how many of those audiophiles would have claim they can even hear the difference.
That much cash has got to attract vultures.

If a computer can detect it, a computer can fake it.
