Why on earth would you feel the need to go to the store at midnight rather than 9 or 10 the next morning?
I work during those hours.
Is Vista solving some kind of need so urgent and dire that you felt you had to have it NOW?
Yes
Is your life lacking the stronger levels of DRM needed to calm your wild copy-infringing nature?
No.
Really, I want to know.
Is your life lacking the stronger levels of intimacy to calm your wild urges to invade and question everyone else's actions? Really, it seems that way!
Good for you. I recovered from an Everquest addiction by taking up flying R/C airplanes. Now, on the weekends I spend time with friends, outside and doing something more fun than a computer game ever could be.
It's sad to think back on all of the time wasted for 3+ years sitting in front of the computer on gorgeous weekend days for 12 hours or more.
You say that with all of the passion and zealotry of a person so addicted to WoW that he's lost his wife/gf, barely sleeps at night, rarely calls back friends and without a doubt neglects his job for surfing his guild/WoW internet forums.
I could understand that if the copying of the music from the broadcast was illegal, however it is not and is protected under the Home Audio Recording Act.
I don't think there really are that many grey areas. I think judges are just interpreting things on how they personally feel based on idealism or activism in some cases.
The reason they are going after XM is because under the updated Home Audio Recording Act they cannot go after an individual-
"No action may be brought under this title alleging infringement of copyright based on the manufacture, importation, or distribution of a digital audio recording device, a digital audio recording medium, an analog recording device, or an analog recording medium, or based on the noncommercial use by a consumer of such a device or medium for making digital musical recordings or analog musical recordings."
This, IMHO circumvents the "spirit" of the Home Audio Recording Act.
That I believe WILL go to the supreme court and have a lasting effect on the private usage rights of citizens with regards to music.
This could also effect Tivo in the long run as well as any other home recording devices.
That there is going to be a lot of responses claiming how it is the parent's responsibility and that MySpace is of no fault. Still though, if you look at it from a different viewpoint...maybe that of how bars are sometimes legally responsible for the deaths in drunk driving accidents should a person leave the establishment with the bartender/employees knowing they are not fit to drive.
As of yesterday DJ Drama was sitting in jail, but dozens of his unlicensed compilations were still available at the iTunes shop.
I know iTunes has deals with the record labels, but apparently these compilations are illegal. Now, considering iTunes may not have the license to directly sell these songs in the way that the contract they have with the labels intends isn't it possible to assume that they could *possibly* be brought up on charges or at least void part of their contract?
Actually I think he's trying to prevent his step daughter from being one of these kids:
The lawyers who filed the latest lawsuits said the plaintiffs include a 15-year-old girl from Texas who was lured to a meeting, drugged and assaulted in 2006 by an adult MySpace user, who is currently serving a 10-year sentence in Texas after pleading guilty to sexual assault.
The others are a 15-year-old girl from Pennsylvania, a 14-year-old from New York and two South Carolina sisters, ages 14 and 15.
Last June, the mother of a 14-year-old who says she was sexually assaulted by a 19-year-old user sued MySpace and News Corp., seeking $30 million in damages. That lawsuit, filed in a Texas state court, claims the 19-year-old lied about being a senior in high school to gain her trust and phone number.
Seriously, this sound more like a whine than a news story. I guess if the summary was written differently it might sound a little more important but as it stands it comes off as "I bought a new laptop to do x and x and x with it, but waaaahhh! it won't let me."
Well, marketing gurus could tie the owner of MINI in with a lot of other products. By knowing they drive a MINI they may be more likely to buy/own product X. So, MINI could increase their own revenues by selling ad space that is directly linked to their customers.
This result is similar to every outsourced project I have been close to or directly involved in. Nothing like waiting around and getting a code drop at midnight just so you can make sure it will work...and it never does:(
True, but remember that many scientists were talking of "global cooling" which was man-made back in the 1970's. A new ice age was being predicted with temperature graphics to show it. Also, it went as far as to have people thinking of off the wall solutions to the problem.
The big "visible" difference between the 2000ish global warming and 1970ish global cooling? One wasn't being used to fuel political campaigns and the other is
otherwise known as "HR".
We removed our water cooler so that this scenario never happens.
You can't say it got worse! This is /. - your eyes will be pecked out by the beaks of a million penguins!

Really? Compusa was packed last night when I picked up my copy of Vista at midnight.
I'm sure the 10 o'clock news won't have the same angle on the story as slashdot.
Sounds like scientology. Wait ok, that's science fiction too.
Have you thought about R/C sky diving?

Games are fun, but real life is so much better.
You say that with all of the passion and zealotry of a person so addicted to WoW that he's lost his wife/gf, barely sleeps at night, rarely calls back friends and without a doubt neglects his job for surfing his guild/WoW internet forums.
Canards are forward on the fuselage usually. The way this sounds its more like a horizontal stabilizer.

I believe this type of case will set a precendent as it does pertain to the copyright law act.

MySpace hit with online predator suits
Correction, it was 1.21 "jigowatts" (mistake made, was supposed to be gigawatts in the movie but obviously someone messed up :)

Or does adding "i" before the word "phone" pass for innovation these days?
Considering there is already a trademark dispute with Cisco over the term "iPhone" I think that should answer your question.

Anything that keeps hippies off my doorstep or street I'm for. At least the cities can save some money on cattle prods, rubber bullets and tear gas.
