Sony and Microsoft together for gaming

At ten years old, I had a MSX2 HBF 700F from Sony with Microsoft system and Konami games: Vampire Killer (Castlevania) and Nemesis (Gradius). With two cartridges slots that give you special stuff if you put two different games sometimes. I can program it to make my own stupid games and store them on a floppy disk. Macadam Bumper and S.E.U.C.K. where also on this machine. Games where you can create. As a consequence, I am now running a video game studio.
This is the most important reason why a game sells. Buy and download will change this and reviews will become more important, from pro or players. Our last racing game has the exact same Metacritic score as NFS Most Wanted and we have not reached the 20K units sold in North America.
The first reason why the classic video games industry may be in trouble is that kind of reasoning. How this can be? The world, China and India included, turn around PC today and Internet. This is the only real network platform. The PC sales are increasing and the price of units is decreasing. I need to buy three consoles if I want to play with my three friends on the network. Go back to your niche mister the analysis, you are a dangerous endangered species. Let's play, create and share with the whole world, on PC.
I am part of the development team of the game, or I must say of the tool. And it is really cool to see players to use the game like this. They are the stars of this type of games, like the actors are for movies. I find it funny that the most seen video on gametrailers now is made by a player. Players has big talents and they are like a processor into the game, a creative one.
NextGen are not anymore in the lead. What is going to happen in three years? The game publishers will start to all make Wii style games on consoles to avoid to pitch false high power graphics games. I can't wait for Cryoshere to be released. But nobody will really react to this news, because the whole industry and consoles fans needs and wants to believe in the NextGen success.
when marketing will be less important, time of development shorter, platform games can make a come back. It is simple and fun. It is not Hollywood style production friendly, and it would probably be a mistake to try to do so.
Next gen consoles is a pit of money for any big publisher. Who is looking for another reason than that?

The End of E3?

The number of "million sellers" of next year is going to be a big joke and every title will lose money. Say bye bye to E3 waste of money and to the old industry.
Spend another four billion dollars and buy them by yourself. Give me one and I will buy two costy games to make you happy so you can start to do a XBox 720 or XBox 361
When I see the games you are talking of, I think we agree. Consoles are still good for gathering, but when I meet friends, I need fun games, not multimillion dollars cinematics. And for this, I need a Wii or table top games.
PC are better to connect directly online, to think about this for example and then to go play instantly with 31 other people that can't fit around a TV.
The real energy waste is the human work here. Why lose billions of dollars, ask for people to buy costy machines and raise the price of games for experiences that could be as fun on current PCs. Apart for Wii, "next gen" consoles are a waste of energy, true.
your game should always be ready to ship with agile method since the most important features are done first, like the one that enables you to ship it. You may think as "milestone" versus "when it's done" but there is a third one: "when you want" and that's agile.
the misunderstanding of the methodologies is dangerous and thats why methodologies are dangerous. This is the reason I don't listen to them: if they are more intelligent than me, I would not understand them fully and make mistake, if not, they are stupid and I don't want them.
So maybe I am not talking about agile method and that post may be really useless.
You can play for free or spend hundreds of hours with the same online games. Thanks to the PC. 60 euros for a 10 hours time of play is over. Add the limited number of console and you have the crash.
Only the Nintendo situation is good: make toy, funny games and... money.
Three years ago, I had an advice from a ultimately big publisher, responsible of european aquisition:"maybe you can try to do something else than games on PC or console" clearly meaning:"just give up".
Now, we have sold our first half million of PC games. And with a free game released in january, we have one million new player every month. On Gamespy online players, we would always be in the top10, and first in it's gendra: car racing. Our game rank more than 80% on Metacritic. We made our first game with one graphic artist and received 80% on Gamespot. Now, we are offered millions of dollars to develop on console.
I don't say they are wrong to warn you. Today, I would not try to pitch a game based on a an idea to a publisher or to develop a common PC/Console game from scratch. But I think of many ways to start.
You are right to believe in what you believe, or you are wrong. That's just what I wanted to say.
People play more online on the only real massively networked device: the PC.
People play longer to PC games than the 10 hours next gen style
You are reading this from a computer where you can download a good game
next gen is old stuff, crash is coming

I don't think they use geostationary for this. Do they?

Players will not have free stuff like on PC and it is a feature. Good to know.
