  1. Re:Just what I was looking for on Replacing New Hampshire's Old Man of the Mountain · · Score: 3, Interesting

    I'm in NH also... I never really cared much for the old man, I mean it was kind of an interesting thing to look at and I'd occasionally bring friends from out of state to see it if we happened to be going through the area where it was located.

    It didn't make me sad at all when it fell, I actually laughed because the state put that image on everything, coins, badges, logos, anything state related had the tied old man on it. Now they have to be a bit more creative when thinking up new state symbols. The face was slowly sliding apart for YEARS before it fell, there was a small crew that would add hooks and cables to the damn thing every year to keep it from sliding off, really it was just postponing the inevitable.

    Personally I like NH, the cost of living is relatively cheap, taxes are some of the lowest in the country, and the state politics (while no where near perfect) are a lot more pleasing than nearly all the other states out there IMO.

    I think the proposed glass replacement is a great idea I'd like to see more modern architecture here in the state, a visitors center would be good for tourism and a glass replacement would make the face look like a ghost, certainly better than the shapeless lump that sits up there now. I don't know why people would oppose this for ascetic or historical reasons, I mean it's not like the the old face will grow back. If you wait much longer people will forget the damn thing even existed, honestly I hadn't even thought about it for years until I saw this article.

    Amazon.com has the same 2 games for sale, except all I see is a stock image, guess which one I'm buying? ... who knows it's a crap shoot. oh yeah, AND I'm paying more AND I have to pay for shipping AND I have to wait for it to arrive. Guess what happens if the disc in the former chew toy doesn't work because it's scratched to crap... yup I've got to ship it back and wait even longer.

    I hate gamestop, I hate their business practices, I hate how they trash they open new games for "security" which also conveniently devalues them when sitting next to the $5 cheaper "used" copy. and I hate how they constantly shove their "trade in" consensual rape program down your throat.

    I still shop there though, because I like Collector's Edition games and they somehow managed to convince publisher to give them exclusive sale rights to most of them, that and they're the ONLY game store within 30 miles of me besides Walmart... and Walmart isn't much better for those looking for their merchandise with a side of morality. Beyond that I can shop online, but then we get back to the crap-shoot that is stock images.

    I really hope Amazon does encourage GameStop to improve their practices... though I don't see it happening.

(portables aside) I don't know how much benefit there is to keeping your game collection in your pocket, actually digital distribution works out AGAINST convenience in some regards in that if I download the latest Street Fighter, then I can't take the game with me to my friends house to play it there, at least with an Ipod it's easy enough to bring my player along with my collection, but hauling a PS3, 360 or desktop PC isn't close convenient.

    That's easy... start an ethic certification process... similar to the ISO certifications...

    If you play your cards right no one will want to be stuck doing business with a company that isn't certifiably ethical, nor will consumers want to buy from one... and you'll get rich in the process.

About the only thing you can do is adjust the beams way down but then you're sacrificing your visibility overall (which is illegal most places but rarely noticed).

    In the USA if you import a vehicle from a RHD country then you must either replace the headlights or have them converted to the proper beam pattern... More Info

  20. Re:Why is the government even subsidizing this? on DTV Coupon Program Out of Money · · Score: 2, Informative

    this has nothing to do with the adjustment and everything to do with the way the reflectors inside the head light are designed.

    Beam patterns are like this

    LHD = ___/```````

    RHD = ```````\____

    Both lights have the same pattern, so even if one headlight was out it would project this pattern. It doesn't matter where the signs are where you live... all headlights are designed this way.

    Go import some replacement headlights for your car off of a similar Japanese Domestic model... no amount of adjusting will correct this and I doubt the other motorists (or law enforcement) would be very happy about the change.

  21. Re:Why is the government even subsidizing this? on DTV Coupon Program Out of Money · · Score: 1, Informative

    No, it doesn't. You don't need to convert your car (or add any converters to the car) in order to drive in the left lane

    Actually you would... if for no other reason than the beam patterns on headlights are angled such that they illuminate high towards the non traffic side of the road to help read signs and they illuminate low towards the on-coming traffic side of the road to prevent you from blinding oncoming traffic.

    without replacing your head lights to a set that emits the proper beam pattern during night driving you'd be unable to read signs on the side of the road, and you would be blinding (not to mention blinded by) oncoming traffic.

    SMF is the other major open source contender and it does somethings better and other things worse than phpbb... I'm still using it for one of my forums but thats only because part of the point of the site is that it's 100% open source so...

    Really IPB and vB are both better choices but neither are free. Interesting enough they both USED to be free. It seems that in the forum world once they reach a certain level of usefulness they close those doors and start collecting license fees.

    Tell them you're on a cellphone... it's that simple. The way the laws are setup they can spam you all they want as long as it isn't costing you money, it doesn't technically cost you anything to receive junk mail nor does it technically cost you anything to receive a call on a lan line... it DOES cost you to receive a call on your cellphone, so it's off limits less they want to pay you for it.
