I've been an advocate for computer licensing since Workgroups 3.11/IIc. Meaning, you can't operate a computer without passing a test and getting a license to do so. Yes, I know I live in a dream world, but think of what the computer/online world would be like if AOL didn't exist and everyone online was a power user. Man, we'd be having some fun (yes, I know we already are) instead of constantly worrying about the latest and greatest virus/scam/phish. When's the last time anyone reading these pages got burned by a script kiddie/Nigerian Dr.? I'd almost bet never. Almost. Yes, I'm an computer elitist who can't program. Go ahead and sue me.

How often do average blokes such as ourselves get a chance to get a crack at an IPO? Not very often to be sure, if ever. Most IPOs go through large investment houses that require you to be a customer and have more money than God deposited there to qualify for IPO shares. I think this is a good opportunity for us Vonage customers and am signed up and raring to get a hundred shares hopefully. At worst I'm out around $1600, but if Vonage doesn't screw things up, the upside could be the downpayment for a house. I'm in. I'll hopefully be "touching" some Vonage stock at ground floor prices. The world owes a helluva lot to MS and IE. Sometimes smart people get it wrong, like maybe John Dvorak has this time. I'm sure MS never intended to actually make money directly from IE, but if you take into account the indirect income from folks who bought a computer to access the internet using IE, anticompetitive or not, it made MS those billions back hand over fist. MS and IE bashing is in vogue right now, and one of the reasons, even though no one will admit it, is because they're on top of the hill and everyone's trying to push them off. Well, thanks Bill Gates for being such a genius prick and paving the way for all us idiots to comment on how evil you are.

I may be naive, but I seriously doubt that Google has some sort of nefarious plan to use your vacation pix and pixilated pr0n videos in an evil greenmail plot against it's users. Or any other such paranoid and delusional type stuff. That being said, if you still think it's "scary", then don't F'ing use it. I think it's the way of the future and Google just jumped the gun a little bit. Hopefully they'll integrate it with the story yesterday about real-time disk backup. Also, I went to Dell's website and put together an über penguin that came out over $14K (it was sweet! =] ). The base dual processor system starts at $1200 with no monitor and that's just not conducive to entry level, or highly experienced computer users for that matter, looking for a new system to upgrade from their long-obsolete 98/Millenium machines. Not that they would be looking for a dual processor machine probably, but that's where I'm headed when I'm ready for that 64 bit monster in a few years. I'll be sporting some version or another of Vista as well. =\
