I hate to ruin the Dilbert mood, but really, a company that is worth working for is able to communicate with HR that there are things to be looking for other than the right number of experience with the correct acronym.

“Good” developers want to work with good managers and will dismiss any job offer that includes unreasonable skill sets. Likewise, a good manager knows how to override HR when a candidate can do the job even though they might not have the specified skill set.

I remember they can detect one single photon, (although we wouldn't perceive it) going all the way up to super bright light.

  20. "Admin" on Non-Programming Jobs For a Computer Science Major? · · Score: 1

Actually, a computer science degree can get you in the door at many start ups and small companies as the only "admin." This really means IT, but it looks better on the resume. You will also be treated as the authority on everything computers. You can probably command a decent salary that way as well. Probably the best bet for starting out. It also easily translates into a management position as "admin" sounds like "leader" or "responsible guy."

  23. Have exciting projects! on How Do You Find Programming Superstars? · · Score: 1

And advertise that you do. Any really great programmer is great because he loves his craft and wants to use it to do exciting things. If you do something cutting edge and exciting, advertise THAT, because that is what will bring in the talent. Of course, you have to pay the man what he deserves (if he truly is good), but the work will attract him more than the perks. A truly superstar programmer is generally going to love programming so much that the most important thing is the quality of the work that he can do, everything else is icing (which is important, but you need a good cake first). Seriously. Great programmers are great because they love it. If the person is only concerned about money and perks, to them it's just a job, and you probably don't want them. (Again, you want to have those things, but it's not the main driving force)

  25. Better than reality? on Brain Control Headset for Gamers · · Score: 1

With all this VR stuff, I hate to rain on the parade, but as we get closer and closer to reality, what exactly is the advantage? At what point do people go outside and say, hey, this actual reality thing has better resolution! I understand that you can change or eliminate the rules in VR. But, if the rules are invented by people (you know, those things that go to war incessantly), then the rules are probably going to be worse and MORE annoying. So, I think I will stick with actual reality. Just a thought.
