You're right. That's a bunch of crap. They say the future of business is service, well if this old school screw you business practice continues they're going to lose customers to someone whom does not have their head up their ass. I believe when companies advertise a price it should be the final price after taxes and extraordinary fees. When they advertise a feature, they should be held to their advertising words, not to the fine print. I thought that's how it's suppose to work legally, but I guess I've been blind.

Of course you wouldn't spend $500 on just a "phone." However, it's not just a phone and you know it so don't try to simplify it that way. It's a Phone, iPod photo and internet device. With your logic it's like saying why buy a $2000 dollar computer when you can get and eMachine for $300. Um there's a lot more computer in the $2000 dollar machine and there's a lot more than just a phone in the iPhone. PDA's are convergence devices and will be expensive for some time so you'll either pay to play or stick with your shitty emachine.

But if you're a jogger, cyclist or active person in general you'll want the Nano. No way in the world I'd do any athletic activity with an iPhone attached to my arm or waist.

Well I see your point, but you also sound like someone who just doesn't like electronic music. There's plenty of bands out today that don't make their music on a computer. One of the problems is there are so many damn bands and people are always trying to stay ahead of the music curve. If you listen to the radio, they shove the same song down your throat all day long. Some of those songs really suck. I think, as many have said, the record companies have lost focus and are looking for profit rather than quality. There are very good new bands, the record companies just haven't been able to spot talent.

A lot of people love American Idol and they turn the winners and some losers into pop stars. I've never bought any of the albums, but I know other people do. Is the stuff good? I don't think so, but look it all the money the show is making.

I think this is on the money. I also see a lot of people buying independent label music. Myself, I but a lot of independent music from Europe and elsewhere. I used to waste hours in record stores searching for rare albums, but now I just download them (all paid for as well).

The only mainstream music I buy now are from major bands like U2 and that doesn't happen often. I can't remember the last time I purchased in a store.

Doing music, video and image editing, I have a hard time grasping something that could replace my working style. Certainly portable computing will change direction, but the desktop for certain working styles I'm not so sure. Either way, any major change will be years and years down the road.

  13. Re:Must be revolutionairy. on Why Do We Use x86 CPUs? · · Score: 0

That's very true, but I gathered this was focused on replacement of the X86 architecture as opposed to replacing the PC. I think what you're referring to will eventually come, but it'll take time for everyone to get used to a new way of working. I'm certainly not ready to give up my PC and while I like my laptop, I still prefer working with a desktop. Old habits die hard.

  14. Must be revolutionairy. on Why Do We Use x86 CPUs? · · Score: 0

In order to change the X86 market you'd need a revolutionary processor that's so fast and efficient it would make the current X86 processors obsolete. On top of that, in order to attract software companies you would probably need to be able to run existing software at better than native speed. This means you need a radically new idea in the design and material. Also in order to produce the product you'd need a shit load of funding to build it and market it. The risk is so great, it makes the event highly unlikely.

The only processors I've heard of that might lead to this revolution are the light processors. I haven't heard much from those camps in a long time, they were still playing with nanotube switches.

It's good to have things like Vista or OS X that keep pushing the hardware requirements and the technology envelope. Of course most corporations wont be first adopters, maybe in 5 years they'll switch over, but there's a group of consumers that are first adopters, they'll buy Vista and the hardware too.
