"Don't believe everything Steve Jobs and Tim Cook tell you, advises The Verge's Sean Hollister.
Interviewer: "Hey Steve, what do you think about Touchscreen laptops?"
Steve:
Interviewer: "That's amazing Steve. How long do you think before they go on sale?"
Steve:
Interviewer: "Steve, a lot of people seem to think you're wrong. Care to comment?"
Steve:
Interviewer: "Well, that's it for today! Tune in again tomorrow when we ask Abraham Lincoln what he thought about the play he went to!"
Shouldn't the shop that supposedly "re-imaged" it busted for fraud? One also might wonder why an FBI agent is using internal FBI resources to "scrub" a non FBI machine that isn't part of an investigation. Finally, these morons don't know about DBAN???
No because the FBI dad was doing all of this as father, not a cop or FBI agent.
There isn't anything illegal or fraudulent with having a parent install software to monitor their kid's net usage nor is it restoring the computer back to it's original state. FWIR: The software he used isn't "super secret" and anybody can get. The fact it survived a "scrub" only shows their ineptitude of removing malware/spyware/software.
Frankly, the only thing I see wrong in TFA is that the FBI dad didn't "re-image" the pedo principle.
Between the increasing popularity of tablets and laptops, I suspect the days of building your own desktop PC have been numbered for a long time now.
Besides, how can you geeks be forced to upgrade your whole computer every few years if you keep stubbornly refusing to play ball by doing things one component at a time? Not to mention the fact that self-built PC's can't be locked down behind a software walled garden and saddled with god-knows-what mandatory crapware, spyware, advertisements, etc. Shit, I even hear some of you are installing other OS's besides Windows and OS X on some of those goddamn contraptions.
You geeks need to be taught to conform better, obviously.
I don't know. I highly doubt that.
Laptops and Tablets are limited in both power and memory. Considering that a desktop can push into the terabyte areas for storage and 8 to 12 core CPUs while laptops and tablets are constrained by SSD sizes and costs, it would make for better costs and power to go desktop.
Not to mention that a desktop as become more customizable. I have yet to see a customizable tablet or laptop that doesn't involve vinyl stickers and has a way to add lights/lasers to.

Some people have been suggesting that Nintendo might pull out of the hardware (at least non-portable console) market entirely if the Wii U doesn't go over well. I am one who would very much not want to see that. Hopefully this console goes over well, even if it doesn't make the grand entrance that we saw with the original Wii.
And yes, I do still play my original Wii. I even bought a new game for it this week.
Good for you.
However, the Wii U doesn't address Nintendo's main problem: GAMES
People and gamers realize that all Nintendo's game consoles are about producing Shigeru Miyamoto games and... that's all. No offerings for die hard gamers. No offerings for RPG players. Just a bunch of kids games made by Nintendo and maybe a few third party games. Just re-re-release a Mario/Zelda/Kirby/Pokemon/etc game, and break even another year...
Want proof? List all of Wii's hits that are NOT made by Nintendo either directly or indirectly. (Metroid, Pokemon, etc. count as "Nintendo made") It is harder than you think...
Until I see more games that interest me, I have no desire to buy a Wii U.
So that leads me to wonder if/when the game maker will patch it to prevent further spread. After all: Some players may not want to lose their characters permanently.
1) Microsoft's feeble attempts to emulate Apple down to the sandbox/walled garden approach.
2) The vast amount of driver/hardware incompatibility.
3) The isolation and confusion associated with those who still use mouse/keyboard input devices.Which makes for at least 95% of the PC market.
4) The massive downloads for the patches to fix the security holes that began the moment you installed 8.
5) Everybody's favorite: The BSOD whenever you install... anything you can name.
6) The wonderful Microsoft Store that has the same ridiculous prices as before...with 100% less security!
7) A wide variety of promises...never to be delivered because they are too busy fixing all the holes and working on Win 9.
8) The latest in protection for your personal information that even my cats can defeat in record time.
9) An user interface that a 3 year old can use... despite the fact you are a 36 year old IT pro that doesn't like being treated as such.
10) The number of hit games...that won't work for it for the foreseeable future.
So yeah! Rush out and get this hunk of crap before the release of Win 9!
Bill Gates has already successfully made the transition to what he calls an 'unbelievably great' Microsoft Surface.
So, just because Bill Gates has made the transition to a Microsoft Phone GUI system, the rest of the Horde should jump on the Win8 bandwagon?
Nah. It just means Billy is trying to pimp 8 like he did with Vista... with the same fail results.
As for Adam Desrosiers: Good you that your 3-Year old can use 8. Too bad the issue isn't "ease of use", but rather a "fixing an imaginary problem that never really was a real problem" issue. That and 8 is a blatant attempt (ripoff?) to clone Apple and emulate the same success with the tablet/phone/touchscreen OS race. (To which Microsoft is a million days late and a billion dollars short in that department. Windows Phone and Zune, anybody?)
Also: Nobody cares your three year old can use it. That just tells me MS is trying to dumb down the product so I'll have to explain to my future in-laws how they messed up an operation a purported 3-year old may have done.
Bottom line: Trying to shove a previous failure down the throats of people under the guise of a new OS is just another failure in the making. Consumers aren't stupid and I doubt this time they will take the bait like they did Vista.
...get my internet from China than get my internet from US providers. At least China won't impose bandwidth caps and give telecos much needed competition.

I can bet that interview would stink.

I only got one thing to say:
Live long and prosper!

It points up.
However you should seek medical attention immediately if it stays up for more than 4 hours.

Make everyone who signed the petition watch this for over 100 hrs.
I guess Tanenbaum will have to add a new chapter to the next printing of his Operating Systems textbook.
Probably brought to you by Microsoft Money or some porn site.
This sounds more like a virus than a bug.
So that leads me to wonder if/when the game maker will patch it to prevent further spread. After all: Some players may not want to lose their characters permanently.
That's like saying you got a huge malignant cancer that suddenly became sentient.
Doesn't matter how smart it is, ultimately it's still going to kill you.
My brother's wife's aunt's grandkid's roommate in college brother's son just bought a console so this PROVES that this article is complete horseshit.
Now, mod me up "Insightful" or "Informative"!
Isn't the fact this "article" came from Wired proof enough that it's all wrong?
Am I missing something?

Or make them glow in the dark.
I mean really: Who is actually going to miss Nigeria?
Didn't the US Gov recently WANT people to troll extremist sites because it "promotes" peace?
Why yes. Yes they did.
I can only get a 3Mbps from my ever so out of date monopoly teleco.
I may as well stick my head, computer, and router in molasses. It'd have the same effect as trying to play a game on Onlive.
For one simple purpose: Trolling.
...get my internet from China than get my internet from US providers. At least China won't impose bandwidth caps and give telecos much needed competition.
It also backfires when the consumer has only one choice in an area (like rural areas). Hence why local Telco Monopolies need to be shattered.
Another day. Another study that finds something bad for you/kills you.
Nobody is going to care to live if there is no bacon.
How dare you use facts to try to calm down the paranoid moonbats! Facts get in the way of a good baseless, unfounded panic!
That just proves that Rush Limbaugh is part of the 1%.
...and a hypocrite too!
