    I though the sandwich planning board was a slab of wood that sat between my sandwich and counter-top graven with various condimentary flow-charts and cold-cut layering strategies.

    That's the sandwich construction contractors board. The planning board is where they make the flowcharts, based on various feasibility studies, usually in such a way as to completely ruin the sandwich.

    I see, so because I'm not starving to death I don't have any right to protest corporatism, corruption, and greed in the government. Because I own any sort of electronic device, I must implicitly support evil corporations. Because I own a small piece of something that will appreciate in value, I'm lumped in with evil bankers, who engage in all manner of illegal activity in order to make money they don't need. Because I protest as an individual instead of as a collective, my petitions are meaningless. And on and on...

    You are exactly right, which is surprising for Slashdot. Everyone complains that robots will put humans out of work and poverty will rise, but fail to realize the positive economic consequences overall. More robots means less production cost which means lower prices which means you need to work less to buy the same amount of goods, and the limit of this equation is zero. It's not like everything else remains static and profit margins explode geometrically. It's just that labor costs are removed from the equation, and it ends up balancing on both sides...

    Wow, brilliant response. Certainly nothing wrong with labeling an organization as "terrorist" just so you can kill them because you don't like their politics. WikiLeaks are not terrorists nor are they under oath to protect anybody's secrets. The people who violated their security clearance and leaked the info initially are who should be punished. If anything, this will make governments less casual about their security clearances, which is a Good Thing(tm).

    What I would like to know is how photons are accelerated to the speed of light. Let's say I energize a laser tube just enough and somewhere in the gas I create a single photon, it instantly shoots off at light-speed. What exactly is propelling that photon to light-speed? Why does it travel at all? Is there any period of time where it exists at a speed less than c as it accelerates to c?
