It makes me sad too. Here's an 8-year-old kid who is already turned into a money-grubbing materialist by his parents. The quest for money is the most empty and fruitless thing in life but our society idolizes it beyond everything else. He should be out playing with his friends and teasing girls and enjoying his youth instead of writing patent applications and worrying about how much money he's going to make and what useless crap he's going to buy with it. Not only that but he's going to take his money and feed it straight into the pockets of overpaid professional sports players, who certainly don't need it. I don't blame the kid because he's probably just emulating his patent-lawyer dad, but it would be nice if our society was less focused on money and material possessions and more on things that actually matter. Maybe the kid will turn out alright, but I don't hold much hope.
Who really gives a fuck if someone has a swastika as their logo? Do people seriously give that much power over themselves to strangers? Besides that, it's a fucking killing game! You can kill people, but you can't have a symbol that might represent killing people, to certain people? If you are so bound up in an identity that cannot tolerate the existence of a symbol, that symbol is the least of your worries, and you probably shouldn't be mock-killing people to begin with. I'm sure Adolf Hitler laughs in his grave every time a Jew gets riled up because he/she sees a swastika somewhere. It's a tiny little victory for Nazism every time a Jew has a negative emotion of any sort. If swastikas make Jews uncomfortable or offended, then that makes Nazis happy. Their stock hasn't done anything in the past 10 years, literally. They don't even pay a good dividend. Apple, Google, Oracle, etc.. all rising the past 10 years. I really can't imagine why any investor would stick with M$ when they could be making millions off other investments... M$ will never make a comeback. Never.

My interpretation was that MS misinterpreted the intent of the contest: to be able to *use* Kinect, not to flash custom firmware or reverse engineer it, therefore somewhere between HR, PR, and the exec board somebody made a mistake.

This is a huge example of how technologically irrelevant Microsoft is -- they can't even distinguish between use and modification. Their culture is so absurdly anti-competitive that they literally aren't even aware of an entire world of technology that is emerging in front of them. The can't innovate, so they figure if they can stifle others' innovation at every turn then nobody will notice them not innovating.
The results from FDM, SLS, SLA, EBM, and other methods can be good, but unless the finished part is meant to be manufactured using those methods, the printed versions are generally inferior by many measures to the real thing made by machining, injection molding, casting, stamping, etc.
It isn't like the Navy would want to broadcast "Yesterday Sgt Gomer found PFC Pile had accidentally started a serious breach of safety and security, causing us to launch the bird to keep the dumbass from blowing the whole ship up. We apologize for any scares and can assure you Pile is now manning a station in the Arctic circle. Have a nice day."
This is one of the things that I hate most about our military (and govt in general) -- their need to continually try and hide shit and cover things up from the public. Accidents happen, mistakes happen. I don't need to be treated like a fucking child and placated and have everything sugar-coated. Just be honest, and fix the problem so it doesn't happen again. Are American's so fucking deluded to think that mistakes never happen in military exercises? That's one of the consequences of having a strong military power. It just makes them look like a bunch of fucking cowards when they hide shit. Too chicken-shit to tell me to my face that they screwed up... How can I respect my military if they don't even have the balls to fess up?
