I see you never had to program the embedded software for a plasma TV. In terms of processing power it beats the crap out of everything consumers where running 10 years ago.
And if your tv only shows you images, that's quite sad.
No tuner, no pll, powermanagement, OSD, autocolor calibration,...
I've been holding of on buying one of them shiny nice new iMacs until they get a new processor. I very much doubt they will upgrade the macBookPro (as some suggest) befor they update the iMac, that remains their flagship product.
I keep my fingers crossed for a core duo 2 iMac announcment on WWDC (eventhough I know it's unlikely).
It's funny to see everyone commenting and producing all kinds of opinions based on a rumour from thinksecret. How many rumours have they actually ever gotten right?
It seems unlikely to me that S. Jobs who has already explicitely stated he does not like the rental model on several occasions, would suddenly change his mind (though I would not rule it out as an option). And he "managed to be convinced by Disney et al."? That must be real hard for Disney to do(considering he is the single biggest shareholder of that company and notoriously difficult to convince of anything).
Jeez lighten up. It's a rumour. On a site. That barely ever gets anything right.
Not really on topic, but I recently bought an old (purple) iMac G3, to use as a wireless printserver. It came with original keyboard and mouse aka the dreaded "hockeypuck", which I thought was nice since I'd have a complete "classic" in working condition.
I had prepared a new optical mouse to replace the puck for all practical purposes, and you know what... First off all it worked real well especially given it is seven years old and not optical. And seconldly I like the puck. So there it is, I came clean (I must be some kind of freak or something, as far as I hear I must be the only person alive to like this thing).
Anyhow many people who snare at "the puck" have never used it. It takes some getting used to, but (if you have small hands like me:-P) you might start liking it.
... and lately the only OS focussing on fais seems to be openBSD. Thanks for fighting for OUR long term freedom again Theo.(Also a thank you to RMS). The one PC I have left at home runs OpenBSD and i BUY every new release.
Ever heard of a thing called "core business". Or "capital investment". Barriers to market entry? Tacid knowledge within companies? Reluctance to change and closed mindedness of managers and workforce.
This will be a good time to see to what extent there is still a difference between the EU and the US concerning the entanglement of politics and business. I for one sure hope there still is one.

Bah, give it some time and you will be able to buy a harddisk twice the space of the ones currently sold.
(I also would've like a double drive bay fwiw)
J.
I generally agree with you, but I would add media encoding to this list (MP3 or DIVX ripping)

Chuck Norris!
Actually I agree.
I had conroe and merom confused for a while.
I still hope you (we) are right and the iMac gets bumped up to a core 2.
