That should get me modded down by half the population.
It's been said before, but that half of the population isn't on/. to do any modding. Your +5, Funny is in no danger at all.
Seriously, and this has probably been suggested by someone else here, but what he needs is a direct cerebral-cortex-to-computer interface. If some grad student were to come up with that one, he'd stand to gain much more than 23,000 Pounds.
There's also one where you have to pick three kittens out of nine pictures of various animals, or something like that. Again, not helpful for the current problem.
Hey, now that you mention it, aren't cigarette smoke particles actually nanoparticles too!!! (Tobacco smoke particles: 0.01-1.0 micron = 10-1000nm) And we've been "using" them for a long time!
I thought this sounded like what Broca's area was supposed to do, IIRC. And Broca's area is at front of temporal lobe.
In other words, I thought this was already known.
I should consider moving to California. But I won't. Still, I'm surprised to hear that. Up here in Oregon where it rains more, water is not cheap, IMO. And our water rates (not for the state of course, but for the local area where I live), I've just been informed are about to go up almost 50%.
While in South Africa last month, I noticed that the toilets there use a lot more water to flush than do the toilets here. Probably less water available there, but it's not a priority when crime, unemployment, HIV/AIDS etc. are bigger issues.
I notice in the better pics that he was carrying a tennic racket while riding on the Segway. Perhaps he was trying to invent a new sport (besides drunken Segway jousting!).
I'd like to try one, but not buy one. At $5000, I could buy a [more useful] car instead.
I have Indian neighbors who tell me that in India if you own a home, you don't really own it in many cases. If you let someone come live with you temporarily and then you say "it's time for you to go now", they can say back to you "we're not going anywhere, I own this property" and the courts will side with them. Then people go hire some mafia-like people to make their life miserable so will they will leave of their own accord. Crazy!
How about "Kampf", the German word for struggle? "Struggle" with added connotations that is, having been made infamous in the title of the little book Adolf Hitler wrote while in prison, Mein Kampf. I hear that it's selling quite well in Iran nowadays. Not ironic at all. Perfectly unsurprising I'd say, given the common goals of Hitler and the Arabic world of today.
but their hiring hasn't been gradual. ..word is they hired 16,000 in the TMG (Technology/Mfg Group) alone last year. Not sure what they were thinking there, but this apparently (nearly) undoes it.
If the whole country did that (especially on the national level, but also on the local level), I believe we'd have a lot fewer issues with corrupt politicians.
Unfortunately, that's one of the biggest "ifs" I've ever heard.
To respond to your first point (wouldn't want to do more than that and ruin your stereotype!):
Are you serious about MSG?
Do the Japanese have a major problem with ADD/ADHD? No? Case closed.
I've been using them (some relatively inexpensive ones, but still more $ than incandescent) and I seem to have to replace them just as often if not more often than incandescent bulbs (in the garage and outside - inside they last longer). Any ideas why?
Not signing a practically worthless treaty does not mean a nation is not concerned.
Kyoto Protocol has little power to actually address the problem.
China was asked, as the second largest contributor of CO2 emissions, after the Kyoto protocol went into effect, what measures it was going to take. It's answer? Call on developed countries (which China is not) to reduce emissions and sign the treaty.
There's one for Setswana as well. I looked at it prior to my recent trip to South Africa, trying to learn a bit of Setswana. I found that they [speakers in SA] appreciated an attempt to speak their language, but most spoke English well and in fact some local children knew Setswana less well than my host (for whom Setswana is a second language).
It's sad that the language is dying out, but sadder if the culture does (due to HIV/AIDS).

if that's all slashdot's about, then I'll agree. . .might as well shut it down.

. . . has documents here: Hewlett-Packard Targeted Board In Leak Probe

Nope. The "prequel". "Eels on a hovercraft" is from a Monty Python sketch IIRC.
The server at www.ghacks.net is taking too long to respond.
Maybe they should ghack into some other servers and steal some bandwidth! Pfffft.
uh. . .isn't it "embarrassment"? not to nit-pick on spelling ;-)
Yeah, I tried the demo of that software and it was terrible!

Hope that means you're against any gun control laws.

So maybe they're seeing something they've never seen before simply because they're looking where they've never looked before.

Tsamaya sentle!
I think if you read more carefully you'll see that you actually agree with the guy you're disagreeing with.
and look at the positive side of it: when we get old we can say things like, "you kids today, you don't even remember when Pluto was a planet!"
So tell us you really think he's LESS famous as a result of this than he would have been had he just accepted the award.
