The Conservative wackos in power in Canada will probably sneak in the ratification of the ACTA (anti-counterfeiting trade agreement) while the other parties are across the street at the pub....or maybe during some sort of 9/11 scenario involving snowmobiles...or toxic poutine.
Yup - it happened to be going down hill on slush. If the ABS had *not* kicked in, the wheels would have locked until the tires penetrated the slush and met the road.
But with the ABS active, the apply/release frequency was perfect to ensure the tires kept floating on top of the slush, so I slowly slid into the car in front of me.
I asked the dealer about disabling the ABS, they wouldn't do it.
In the movie The Corporation we learn that corporations have pretty well the same legal rights as people, but they lack the personal responsibility that goes with it.
Perhaps we should round up all those Best Western hotels and put them in prison.
No healthcare bills No DMCA No "war on drugs" No billtiontrillion dollar deficit No gun-toting citizens...and in Quebec the minimum drinking age (and rules of the road) are merely suggestions!
The music market is highly fragmented. Genres have redefined themselves. Radio, which used to be the primary vehicle of finding new music, has lost its edge and has fallen back to formulaic content programming where it is more interested in playing what people "expect" rather than breaking any new ground. XM and Sirius were probably the last nail in the coffin when it comes to commercial radio.
MTV and the like are the new AM radio. Even worse. Too much talk. Too much energy spent trying to be "cool".
Where does one go to find new music? For me it was Shoutcast. I think an independent DJ has their ear closer to the ground than any commercial venue ever can. I found new music online and I bought some of the stuff I liked. I am just one example.
The recording industry is so far out of touch with their audience that they've fallen into the same traps I lot of the IT industry is currently suffering from: litigate, don't innovate. They've forgotten one important thing: it's about the MUSIC, not he music INDUSTRY. They act like farmers who have ruined the soil from which a healthy crop comes.
They're outgrown their purpose and, like typesetter's unions, the days are numbered for the current incarnation of the recording industry.
Yeah, I founded a ISP start-up in 1994. It got bought up by a bigger firm two years later, which I discovered later used to be a MINING COMPANY! Not being qualified console pilots, they drove it into the ground, along with my stock options.
With the growth of web-based development I found that.NET was a big step sideways for M$. The problem being that the.NET IDE tried to make building a web app a lot like building a desktop app. You are no longer intimate with your code and depend too heavily on generators and libraries. Unless you're a newbie as web development it's a big hindrance.
I don't know about you, but when I place my hand on the desk, the palm of my hand is not 90 degrees to the desk surface. It's in the same shape and position that I'd have it if it were cupped over my mouse.
Chair/desk height and position have more to do with comfort and repetitive strain injuries than the shape or either your keyboard or mouse. Gimmick!

I wish we could sneak in the back door.
...and a battery life of about an hour.

Then Sonny Bono came along and really screwed it up. He did it all for Micky Mouse.

You're right, hitting the parked cars is a much better option.

It's true.
Time to get tin-foil hats for our wallets.

Yeah, and you're not forced to sit through *^&%$#@ non-skippable previews.
...and the electricity would come from?
Go look at a map of northern Canada.
I want .:)
This new process is called....DOLBY.
(not the lame Thomas kind either)
Yeah, but you'll have to buy a new post-Vista operating system just to get this nifty new feature.

"For instance, it eliminates several browser overrides where Vista ignored users' default preferences and automatically launched Explorer."
Yup, just try clicking on a link in a Messenger conversation with or without Vista. You get IE, like it or not.
...or maybe what they're selling us just sucks.

I grilled my local independent bookseller on this. She blamed the publishers, which are all in the U.S.

I think it was the same people who failed to give us the vote on DRM, NAFTA, globalization and the New Coke.
