So yeah, this is from a UFO conspiracy YouTube channel. They took some time today to put together a really inspired montage of Cassini images from the last eight years. It's really good.
I don't think you people know what is at stake. You mod me down for Google, who's fate we will take. Alternate ideas have no business here. It is our future that is at stake. When we are mindless robots, worshipping the faith, remember here and now it was............ comment deleted.
I remember when Google was the coolest thing. It was apparent that they would one day rule our lives. Most people, including myself, could not wait. Now that it is here, it sucks. I fell for it. I got duped by them like a few billion others. To their credit, Google did advance technology and our lives in many ways. In many ways we would not have leapt as far as fast as we have over the last decade and half without them. Now it is time for Google to step aside. It is time for Google to fail, and maybe even die. I think of all the "to big to fail" tech giants that have fallen flat on their face over the last 20 years. Google destroyed them all. Now that Google is too big to fail, I suspect their evil ways will be their own demise.
Eventually a smartphone/device/whatever will come along and whack Google over the head. This type of change none of us see coming until it happens.
Now that Cortana and Alexis are getting married, I would like to see Samsung get in on that with Tizen. A Microsoft\Amazon\Samsung phone sounds insane, but Microsoft (despite their mobile failing) and Samsung both have experience in mobile OS design. Meanwhile Amazon has... Well, Amazon has Amazon. It sounds like a train wreck, this is true, but I would like to believe something would come out of such a cooperation and be good. I can dream. Meanwhile, people who used to gush over Google - people like me - have been turning to Bing and Yandex in protest. Just a few years ago, I remember someone mentioning that they used Bing. Everyone in the room laughed at them. These days it's not so funny. With a company the size of Google, they should not have an average employee age of 29 - they do. And they are a bunch of fucking SJWs with forced "integration" policies that discriminate based on age, skin color, and gender. All in the most warped of ways. So yeah, this is a rant
If this post gets modded at all, it will be interesting to see which way it goes. A few years ago it would have been flamebait.
I am self-employed and work from home. I started working at around 4:00am work and work until 7:00pm. For the longest time I had myself deskbound most of the day. It started to catch up with me in the form of aches, pains, and fatigue. I am not getting any younger and knew I was setting myself up for trouble. Solution? I pick up my bass several times a day and play the most demanding bass lines until I sweat. The playing bass not only helps me physically, but clears up my thought process. This has increased my productivity and overall well being. Also, I am considering a standing desk, as long as it is convertible.
So North Korea dug a really deep hole, lowered in a thermonuclear weapon, filled in the hole, then detonated the device. Buildings as far away as Moscow shook. There are two particular properties of this planet that I believe makes that test responsible this earthquake and the many lesser earthquakes that happened around the same time but haven't received much attention. For example there was just a 3.9 in the Midwestern United States with other small rumblings elsewhere. I suspect this is far from over. So those two properties? Techtronic plates and our planets ability to vibrate at a high frequency planet wide. This is often described as the planet ringing like a bell. The initial shock from the detention got the ringing started. This in turn caused plate destabilization leading to shifting. The earthquakes resulting from this have added more intense, and probably long-term "ringing" to the planet. I expect more shifting of plates and more earthquakes. I would not be surprised if a tsunami or two will come from this as a direct result. This could last for months as has been observed in the past in the aftermath of large earthquakes.
After all these years of getting updated on the status of ReactOS on Slashdot, I finally install it in a VM. My first thought was, "Am I installing NT 4 or what?" That was kinda cool actually. After installing and rebooting I got a blue screen. Really? Okay, so I restarted the VM and this time the loading screen flat out hung up. If I was installing this on actual hardware, what would it be intended for? A Pentium Pro? If a selling point is a TV tuner device driver...
Who says they are trying contacting us? If it is communication, perhaps those who developed the system have evolved extreme patience. Perhaps their perception of time is different then ours. All that said, I am betting on natural phenomenon. Something dramatic. It's like Tabby's Star. While it would be really cool to verify that it is an engineering effort causing the light dips, at this point the observations are so bizarre, a natural explanation while likely turn out to be something remarkable. When it comes to the universe and our understanding of it's workings, I think we sometimes give ourselves too much credit.
They hooked up every house in my subdivision... except mine. After much calling back and forth, it became clear how mismanaged this Google Fiber project was. Their left hand did not know what their right hand was doing. It was laughable to keep getting so much contradicting information about the status of my "install". Finally they called and canceled on us. Oh well, Google started falling out of favor with me years ago. I am probably lucky that I am not all the more tangled up with them.
I thought Logitech was among the companies that died over the last couple tech shake downs. I remember having a really nice mouse from them in the 1990's - their keyboards always seemed overblown though.
I guess I will be staying away from anything with that name.
Agreed. Looking back I remember being a big believer in Hurd as maybe not THE next big thing, but an upcoming major player. As I grew to understand the internal politics of the FSF, I ultimately dismissed it. They should swallow their pride and have their way with the Linux kernel, they are all about GNU General, and it's already there. It's not like they can't overhaul it to their hearts content and call it GNUHurd\Linux. They already have Debian GNU/HURD - Debian with the Hurd kernel. I get it that they are all about microkernels, but if they are ever going to get anywhere, they are going to have to take a hard look at their own dogma and bias and make some changes.
Yes but Google is also a bastard company. I often wonder what their "Do no evil" motto is relative to. They have been falling out of favor with me for several years now. I am quite perturbed by their many monopolies on information. As a company, they are certainly the anti-FSF. Then again, the FSF so mired in impractical philosophy, their lack of relevance and influence is their own fault. All the same, they may yet see their day. Time will tell. People see ourselves as entrenched in wild computer\communications technology. In reality, this new pervasive tech culture and lifestyle is in its infancy - directionless despite appearances. I predict much drastic moving and shaking over the next couple decades as we grow out of our technological diapers.
No one said anything about FSF. FSF != the Open Source community or movement. Sure, they have done a lot for it and are a part of it. Something or other about mutual exclusivity comes into play here. I really do not follow your logic at all.
I've been at this long enough to remember when Linux and Open Source as a dev model where all but laughed at by industry as not and will never amount to anything. Fast forward to know and Linux runs on everything and the Open Source dev model rules the day. But does it run Linux? But what doesn't! I am satisfied that we have achieved "The day of Linux on the desk\laptop." Going back a few decades, I don't think most people suspected we would be surrounded by all manner of things running Linux.
Going through the comments so far, I took a look at Quake Champions. Just what I have been wanting. Now we will see how my own personal age factor affects the enjoy ability.
Back in the late 90's I was already reasonable successful and self-taught. I was burning through certifications left and right because I already new the stuff. I became curious about these "tech schools" I thought I would take one for a spin in case I was perhaps missing something. I was appalled. No one except me had any background in computers, and were having what was for them some seriously heavy duty material thrown at them with no time to actually learn it before moving on. Even the instructors fell short and I found myself correcting them and practically teaching the classes. Then the revelation. When it came time for students to tackle a cert relevant to a particular course, and the class time having been a waste, they were given comprehensive "memorize all the questions and answers and most will be on the cert test" cheat sheets. My last straw? I reached a point were I knew I was going to drop the "school" like a bad habit. There was a bit of personal sociological study that had kept me there. The disaster was fascinating to me. The last straw? I furiously took notes over material I already knew to keep from going bonkers board. In a single hour long class, I could easily crank out five pages of detailed notes. One day the person sitting next to me asked if they could barrow and Xerox them. Okay, sure. The next day I walked in and every "student" in a class of what must have been over fifty had a forty page stack of my notes. That was it for me. I stood up and let the class know that my notes were full of errors and wished them luck figuring out what they were as they used them to study and walked out. In all honesty, there were no errors in my notes, I was just that disgusted.
It will be interesting to see who this goes in seven or eight years when we have this same kind of travesty in the form of "learn to program AI" schools.
I see the dev kit is available and only $299. That's a good price for something new to play with. The question is, what kind of form factor appropriate applications to develop on a full fledged computer OS? Yes, this will be fun.
That's my review of this shit.

and see clearly that we live in 1984.
I wish the best for the human species. Yet, I have no faith.

I hate to reply to myself, but I also take Slashdot breaks. Not physical activity, but switching mental gears has also proven to be a great help.

When can I get that ticket to Mars?

In a recent interview, Tim Cook admitted that the iPhone is overpriced. He went on to say that it is still worth it.
Clearly we are coming from different Mandela effect realities.
I demand a mechanical keyboard.

Update: Damn I did not expect so many hoops just to download and install a game. I really am getting old. Back in my day...
