scratch the memory card.... the unit has a half a gig of flash memory for save games and other data. good enough to start. to expand, buy more flash memory later, or (as it is rumored) and external USB drive.
I would also imagine the SDK will provide way for software house to create native Wii games (not just a NES or SNES game) that are smaller deliverables (for example, a PopCap-like game, but written to run on the Wii, available as a independent game download).
As much as I think the PS3 is a ludicrous piece of tech I am not planning to buy for quite some time. This may be what Sony is shooting for: Get it out, and really knock them dead in sales in 6 months to a year after hardware prices drop and better games are available (and granted, the BluRay is anywhere near a success). However, will the 3rd party devs wait around that long?
From the gist of the article (and other news sources), I don't think the SSBB development team is even looking at using motion-sesitivity gestures at all, and trying to keep with traditional control.
True that, I have been gaming on computers and consoles for over 25 years now (I'm now 35). The #1 requirement for a game (for me that is) is that it has to be fun, content and graphics both run second for me (although a definate plus if you get good content and graphics). The GC always delivered in spades for me (when I owned one) and SSBM was one of my favorite games.
27 playable titles at *E3*... who knows how many of them will be available for launch. if they can get 20 titles out the door with the new system, I think nintendo will be in pretty decent shape
Ahh, did not know that. Bought mine second-hand, so (while it came with all the cables as well as in the original box) I did not have the web-browser app CD. Anyways, it's easier to do it on the laptop right now anyways:)
I don't recall the Dreamcast ever having a web-browser builtin. Yes it had a modem port (and eventually a brodband adapter), but that alone doesn't get you on the internet and cruisin'.
Maybe with Bethesda going ahead and pretty much accepting the M rating for Oblivion, maybe they'll go all out 'M' when (or perhaps, *if*, knowing the luck of the franchise) they release Fallout 3
Actually I do, since I have worked as a software developer in that industry (and in other areas also) for 15 years.
In the stock market, yeah I can see why you want real time. eCommerce? Bank transfers? Accounting information, etc.... none of that has to be real-time. Close to real time? Maybe.
Costing millions? Maybe so, but is it any more COMPLEX? Exactness of a process and complexity are two completely different things.
I'm not saying Blizzard's system is more complex.... I'm just saying you can't compare the two ultiamtely, they are different. They have their own complexities that may dwarf financial/telco system... AND vice-versa.
I can buy the "core" PS3 for $500, then spend another $250 to upgrade!! YAY

Soylent Rice IS *People*!!!
IF they can be sold to the average consumer in any sort of volume.
Don't know about this particular thread.. but the "$200 nintendo deal" has been discussed on /. ad-infinitum.
Way to combat the stereotype that Slashdotters are desperate!
Yeah, you tell... wait, we're NOT desperate?

Hell... I want to know where to get the $170 XBox 360!!! ;)
Certainly didn't stop PopCap... ;)

Odd, I know a LOT of people with gamecubes in this part of the world... all sorts of people
I imagine one could use the nunchuck controller with SSBB, just without any motion gestures.
It would be silly not eventually have a keyboard for it.... the.... (drum roll) KeyWii!!!!
Seriously, though, if someone wants to use a keyboard, I would think the Wii would be able to use a USB keyboard (it has three USB ports, IIRC).

pistol, whip, fists.... see, this would be a perfect game for the Wii
alas, it seems for those other two boxes i am propbably not buying for quite a while....
... is a re-designed Ian that will QUIT SHOOTING ME IN THE BACK!!!!
I certainly don't EXPECT it to be better. However, I do hope it IS a better game this time around.
