hmmmmm interesting, but can you really get bash to run on a washing machine? You always hear about bash on toaster ovens..... and if you can get it to run how do you keep it from getting soggy? hmmmm maybe it would have to default to csh the C-shell??
You are correct.... but as they are / were on an uncensored channel XM basically said "Do whatever you want, say whatever you want, people pay EXTRA MONEY for uncensored channels" in the contract. Uncensored means that there is NOTHING taken out, as far as i am concerned suspension / firing for waht they said on an "uncensored" channel is.... wait for it.... CENSORSHIP. If i still had my XM subscription i would most likely cancel it even though i never listened to that show. I would simply protest the completely boneheaded mistake XM is making. I also paid the 2-3$ extra a month for the uncensored channels.... because i wanted stuff that could be offensive!!
P.S. If you want to listen to REALLY offensive ( and funny) radio listen to "Bubba the love sponge" on howerd101 on sirius radio...
Since most pirated installations don't have the install media either, it's a sure fired way to wipe out thousands of fake installs in one fell swoop.
ummmmmm, you know that most pirates would have either 1. cheaply bought or 2. downloaded a copy of the install disk right??.....the same disk that you can restore from..... just pop the disk in choose install option without formatting and it pretty much just reinstalls $SYSTEMROOT\windows while leaving your other files untouched ( most of the time anyways).
You forget that by using a liquid based coolant ( the oil ) versus a gas based coolant ( Air OR water cooled with heat dissapated to the air) they could Easily use geothermal cooling E.G. pump the oil slowly though the rack vats and into a geothermal sink ( all it is is a pipe dropped 50+ feet into the ground) and letting the excess heat dissapate into the soil. Also the refrigeration of say 100 gallons of oil will be much cheaper than the equivilant of air because of the density. It is much easier to remove heat from a smaller surface than a really large one ( and they would be roughly the same temperatures) you can cool 100 gallons of oil from say 150F to 140F MUCH quicker than the equivilant of air.
Doesn't that run Windows Mobile? How's that workin' for ya? There is not much wrong with Windows Mobile, it is one of the few GOOD MS products.
E.G. my HP IPaq hx2755 with windows mobile 2003pro. I can SSH, view ALL my local samba shares wirelessly, wireless print, VNC, use skype use yahoo... AIM..msn messengers. Not to mention it has the processor power to play even.MKV and.OGM files, try that with a palm...i haven't seen a palm with a 633Mhz proc ( nor did i look, i hate the Iface on palms)
Um, you do realize that canada has a HIGHER gun / person ratio than the U.S.A right? just because there is thousands of times less murder in canada than in the U.S. doesn't mean that there are less guns. Last i heard, in "Bowling for Columbine" there where as many or MORE guns in canada than there were people.
Uhhh sorry to burst your fanboy "bubble" but suse is the same as any other distro when it comes to admining it... you can do it the GUI way or the commandline way, your choice. My Suse laptop is configured / install everything from command line. Suse does some stuff right, it is the only distro that I have found that actually WORKS with my 2 Compaq laptops. Debian and derivatives still do not detect my X server settings correctly, and give out wierd errors when trying to access my WLAN card. Fedora i didn't mind much, it was just a pain to set up for my preferences, the WLAN cards worked but i had to write scripts to bring them up and connect to my AP's at boot since RH STILL didn't have networkmanager integration with KDE. I tried gentoo (my favorite desktop linux) but could not for the life of me get X to work AT ALL once it was compiled, neither the "radeon" driver or "fglrx" driver worked with my graphix card for some reason or another.
As a slight side note, i do not beleive Suse is even after the server market, so i don't see why you even posted that it isn't. They market SLED... you know Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop
Edgy was just released, thus it is considered "stable" since it is not a release candidate.
Fortunatly this doesn't matter to me,since unfortunately Debian and derivatives will not work with my wireless card. The only distro i Found to work "out of the box" was Suse (trimmed down to what i wanted installed) after i loaded my drivers into ndiswrapper.
I like the fact that ubuntu can fit onto one cd / dvd and wish i could use it. These "everthing but the kitchen sink" distros don't help the FOSS movement, people look at a typical install of Redhat / Suse and see 5+ CD's and think that their computer can't handle that size operating system ( i actually had people say that on some support house calls).
Plus Ubuntu does have the cleaner look to it than most distros, although you don't have as much choice during the install as i would like ( like on a normal install not installing the sound system) for really customized install, maybe this could be remedied by downloading the "alternate install cd". All in all Ubuntu is relatively stable, ANY OS will have quirks that need to be worked out.
DRM'd music and.wma have mediocre sound quality to begin with
Can you please justify this? I have a Klipshe ProMedia 5.1 surrounds system with an SB Audigy Gamer Edition (yes ancient sound card but it sounds beautiful to me) and I can not tell the difference between a high bit rate.WMA file (or even one of the "lossless" compression ones.) and the same song playing from CD. The Klipshe setup i have was also one of the "Kick Ass" rated setups from Maximum PC before they changed the styling and unfortunatly lost some sound quality in ~2002.
Now don't get me wrong, maybe you DO hear a difference, but I don't and I have been a "audiophile" for many years, i can't listem to music unless it is on a HI-FI stereo in my car, same for my home theater system. I even remember a Maximum PC article ( lete 2005-ish) where they took a bunch of people and played music THEY brought in and had them try to tellthe difference between.wav 128K 296K and the 392K compression schemes (well it was on MP3 format but still the same goes) and most of the people got them wrong.
I apologize if i rambled a bit i am posting from a hospital. They have free WIFI....woot! Now if only the painkillers were free:-(
Personally, I don't see why they don't make their addon products available for open source platforms. It would seem to me to be common sense to support UNIX / Linux (seeing as how office is/was available for Mac computers) that they would want to sell as many copies as possible. I mean think about it, if a company is not using windows you are not making money. So sell them Office software instead, yes they could use an open source alternative but also offer or beter yet bundle support with your apps.
Maybe they are "testing the waters" by "donating" to open standards and opening up API's. Or it could all be a big PR stunt, but i am hopeing for the former because compitition is always good (as long as it is somewhat fair anyways).
What laptop are you using? My compaq had no problems with suspend to ram/disk (i did have to set the options in the config files to suspend anyways), possibly it is because it has a AMD processor in it. I normally prefer intel but it was cheap and gets the job done quite well. Maybe AMD has better ACPI standards compliance? My intel p4 northwood is definatly NOT acpi compliant ( it does not even have the full ACPI instruction sets according to a few inux distros )
Actually i think malware is a better title, it doesn't ry to reproduce yet it just doesn't do what it claims it is supposed to. (unless it is SUPPOSED to lock up and / or crash ) At least they fixed the lockup / crashing problem with 2K and XP, they ae NOWHERE near as bad as my old ME machines where. ME was a nightmare.
Why would anyone using an OSX machine (or in fact anything not made by MS) consider 'viruses' to be a signifigant concern?
Please, please, don't tell me you don't think that virii (or viruses for you anal people) are important to catch NO MATTER WHAT PLATFORM they are for. My mail servers (linux) run AV programs, as do my web servers, file servers (yep still linux) and guess what, it ain't gonna change. Remember, every rooted linux | mac | windows box out there could e used for a DDoS attack against you or a service provider you need. And dont tell me that macOS can't be rooted, a user is a user and still the weakest link in security.
uhm, sure. You go out and get one of these sticks so they can try it. I mean, hell, they wouldn't WANT to confirm or deny it would they? I would think they did everything in their power to test this out.
hmmm raises a question, if "the ISP will slip it onto the suspects computer" IF they use a known security vulnerability, wouldn't that be cansidered unautorised entry? especially since we are talking about a PERSONAL computer, not say... normal phone lines. The phone lines they can get away with by dealing with the carrier.
Bah someone else continue this rant, i been up for 18 hours now and can't think straight.
STFU, i LIKED the DreamCast. I think it is a shame that people didn't want to make games for it. And for what little hardware there is the games look amazing, i really would have like to see what sega could have done had they lasted another generation on the console front.
hmmmmm interesting, but can you really get bash to run on a washing machine? You always hear about bash on toaster ovens..... and if you can get it to run how do you keep it from getting soggy? hmmmm maybe it would have to default to csh the C-shell??

GAH....NOOOOO that mean MS is going to be around for another 7K years though...

unfortunatly you would just be trading one drug for another ( Insulin for Immuno Suppressents).

only if you find the missing "N"
Ooooh, where can I buy a goth bride?

What's this dot-slash of which you speak?
/sarcasm
What!!?? Are you saying you are non linux using slashdot reader...and you have an account with a 4 digit UID! How can this be?

One quick question.... since when has SPAM been considered meat? I mean i can see meat BY-product (maybe).
apt4rpm and apt-4-suse work on just about any RPM based distro.... and hmmm i would hope that any debian based distro's would have apt-get.
