I am not saying this because I love linux so much because I do not but I have seen this - the-sucker-has-no-money-to-be-worth-anything-for-us attitude of companies that do not exist no more. not really true -in old good times we used pair programming (this was not called that yet) for people starting at the job to couch them into experience mode. Today we have pair programming to watch for faults and enable faster problem resolution and if so then both guys should have at least some experience but still it works well in most cases. It is expensive however as two people have to sit there. Nobody said that some agile practice cannot be good.

There are certain things that are hard wired and changing them is difficult if not impossible. You can compensate some of those if you are unlucky to have such 'weird' characteristic but you would consciously have to spend time doing so and itis not always pleasant or rewarding. Take this example. In group of people I work with my proposals on how to approach problems tend to be thrown out of the window. This has a lot to do with the way I make them one manager told me. This morning I took notice and out of curiosity made a proposal to improve things in a silly way just to see what happens. Indeed they did what I really wanted i.e.noticed that proposal was seriously flawed but going into the right direction and then decided to do the right thing. This was a success then. This is stark contrast to situation in which I showed my co-workers how silly they are following flawed process only to be confronted with 'why did you not tell us' when the failed (after promptly ignoring my righteous advice). When I had higher testosterone levels I tried to forcefully get the message trough but now I laugh a lot. They say I got wiser. Now you figure.

Not because they say President this is silly but because they cause people to kill very specific (or not so specific) other people. There are communications that albeit I was an author I would like to withdraw and I cannot. In a sense it is the same as being angry and telling your wife she is a stupid bitch and then trying to pull it back but you cannot. This is also beyond the fact that sometimes the stuff put on the internet about one person is put there by other person and possibly in illegal way. I think adding more of the same 'trying to pull it back but you cannot" to the overall human misery in modern society is not necessary especially if the only purpose it serves is to satisfy your need for your vision of internet (which is just a tool). Of course the measure is or may be ineffective but at least it may cause morons like Zuckerberg to rethink his policies and ideas. Not that I believe there is a good chance of that but at least somebody is trying. From this perspective I think the attempt is good (even if I look at almost all activities of the Commission and my own German Government with great and usually justified contempt).

I think however not only the difficulty has increases but also the returns have decreased - if you look at last biggest zillioners they do not manufacture but are experts in innovation and then managing and marketing or speculate on stock exchange (even today it still may pay off) - this is how money is made not by engineering things. Alternative you can specialize in parasitic practice of law, try medicine or financial magic - with amount of needed skills to become what amounts to an engineering monkey and a perspective that this hard job is outsourced to Zamunda in no time why bother - better do other things (if you can). This is also a consequence of financial services dominating US (and not only) economy - talents prefer to speculate on financial markets instead of constructing things - bigger and faster ROI still even today or especially today.

The fact is that both types have serious consequences only for nuclear these are not as yet quite as profound as for fossil ones which by the way are not only reason why our climate change. Another thing is that going for nuclear is not solving much anyway - you assume that nuclear is replacing something which it may but to what extent if at all is unknown. What I see is that our energy consumption is on level unsustainable already and it will becomes worse every day. It may be that nuclear is an option that we have to consider but considering complexity and dangers that this complexity brings with it I'd say we should invest the time and money elsewhere. You will tell me of course that wind etc is not an option - of course there are problems with them only th fossil fuels are going to run out and nuclear is so troublesome that we will have to find another solution(s) anyway. I laughed at the statement about continues integration. The corporation I worked for had quite some standards on stability and systems of which legacy parts exist for 20 or more years - the actual integration process is complex enough with some of the (stability) tests taking days that any 'continues' integration is just not feasible (this did not stop the management from introducing 'modern' agile principles and what not and issuing statements of success anyway). My view is that you can live also without well tolled revision control although this makes life difficult. I guess it depends on the size of projects and and size and complexity of legacy systems.
