The problem with this is that even if there are only good guys in the given gov that we have then still the possibility exists that evil guys get 'accidentally' elected and decide to stay. fighting the enemy that knows all is extremely difficult. This of course is not an argument against surveillance in general but something that should be considered on regular basis by citizens. We can already see that citizens are put under pressure, their views are not considered and friendly remonstrants are beaten up by the police and this not in NK but places like Italy (Genua 2001) or recently in Germany (Stuttgart 2010). How do you fight a state that has everything under control? Well you do not as it is too pointless.

As said - not an argument against CCTV but there is a problem there and not only there that the technology opened up and that should be resolved somehow. I do not know how but recognizing t hat there is a problem is the first step.

well whether the accused actually did something wrong is sadly rather irrelevant. The burden of the proof is on the accused which means heavy legal costs and unknown chance of winning. Better to settle down on some 'small' (well comparing with possible legal costs and also possible fine that could result from lost case) fine and hope this is not going to happen again. This is the choice majority will make. If minority of daring ones starts growing few cases that find their way into courts maybe enough to keep that in check. It is no-win situation for the accused. I guess the only thing that we citizens can do is by lubricants, bend if asked too and hope the unpleasant part does not last too long.

In any case the competition with young and younger from the great countries of India and China etc gets our jobs away only to the extent we let them. In corporation I work for currently there is constant drive to do things more cheaply. What we noticed however is that the 'cheap' countries are cheaper per hour but skills needed for the job are often lacking then and this makes projects more expensive (esp. if you have to do things twice) than as if they were done in expensive countries. The problem is not drive to do things inexpensively but constant quest to do things cheaply instead of doing things right. This 'strangely' increases costs. It is of course OT but I though I bring it up to enlighten a day.
