    They are missing many points about Uber. Two big ones are: It is fast because of their driver ubiquity. And their drivers have a reputation that matters because it follows their profile which has customer feedback. These are good.

    The downside is that this is austerity sock-puppetry saying, "We are not going to be building anymore public transit. Share your shit among the techno-poors instead."

    The racist red herring statement at the top of this post really goes does great work to avoid this subject about the "kill and wipe switch". Smart phone owners have now agreed that they are responsible enough or smart enough to own their phone or the contents on their phone ... for security!

    General Petraeus was busted in an affair because he and his paramour thought that if the two of them shared a login on gmail and the wrote each other by leaving emails in the drafts folder and never "sending them" ... that that would keep them safe because the information "never went anywhere".

    Stupidity and general misunderstanding of how the internet and internet applications work aside ... it did not change things. It will be seen as a new tool for marking enemies and aiding one's self.

    Production worker or "blue collar" work was firmly in the middle class via unions. I don't suppose I would expect a bunch of tech workers to understand what a union is for, though. Especially since in the US that job class doesn't even allow overtime.

    but this is why i switched to mac os x. one, i had the cash to drop on a powerbook. and two, i love the beautification that apple decided to do to the desktop.

    when i use linux i use enlightenment because of the same reason. when it comes down to it, i surf, read email, listen to music, and use terminals to connect to the boxes i work on. so any OS will do.

    that given, i want my sh!t to look good. i want my apps to work happily together like the brady bunch. and they should look better than than the skanks off of OC or whatever wo/men float your boat.

    and as for raster saying he has no funding, i took that to mean he didn't go not out of spite or not wanting to take part, but that he didn't have the cash to spare on that.

    have you installed X11 then use fink to install xemacs?

    got gimp, xterm, xmame all working on my 10.2.6
    box last night.

    i suggest the x11 from apple, and don't forget the x11 sdk so you can compile whatever x11 app you have.

    Good point. But what percent of the market share mod their XBoxen?

    Seems like that would be a small part of the market in total, and thusly have little effect on Xbox Live. But then again, I don't know nothing.
