In the long term the best thing to do is try and bridge the gaps that obviously exist.
In the short term you can beg for blood, but you become no better than those who you denounce.

There is more to free software than the free software foundation or GNU as well.
IMHO it should we should use libre/, libre to say its free userland tools ontop the
GNU recognises other free software licences, the thing they all have in common is that they are free (acording to one definition), but they are not all GNU.
Even with IPv4 there are 4.2 x 10 ^6 IP addresses, there are only about 3(?) billion people on the planet, probably less than 1/4 of them have access to a computer, so there should be 5.6 IP numbers per person already.
The FACT is that IP number are artificially scares, that is people "own" big chunks of them and see them as a source of power, so they wont let anyone else use them.
Creating more IP addresses and giving the new IP address to people who already have them is useless as they will be stockpiled just like the current situation.
We need to escape theses overloads who control us so.
It should just use the other companies (the m word) protocol as a reference and then add their own extensions to it as required.
No doubt the two implementations will be targetting slightly different markets so there may be areas of the protocol that are fine by the other companies standards, but arent good enough for our values.

I gave up on software raid under linux during the.2.4-test phase.
I couldnt even get someone to admit there is a problem.
They all say they are getting linear performance increases, i used to be able to get 80& performance increas with 2 drives, but adding any more drives (i had 4 way raid 0) made no difference to performance.
Wow, they give away this c# compiler that is a java/c wannabe. They know that a compiler has to get a lot of use to be accepted, so they let people use it under a licence thats still in the hands of the lawyers.
A couple of days days ago there was a story about how MS lawayers just read the GPL (and now shit scared) and not allowing people to use MS development tools to write code under "viral" type licences such as the GPL.
He seems to think hes grovelling to the open source community, but hes giving away a compiler that we wont be able to use on our OS of choice, and wont be able to use with our licence of choice.
MS can reach out all they want, nobody trusts them, and nobody will untill they are well and truely broken.
A few years xmas islands casino went broke, aparently it was a big earner for the island, lots of people lost jogbs, left the island etc etc.
Also xmas islands had problems getting supplies from the mainland, like fresh fruit and vegtables, they all got shiped by boat, which couldnt make the trip in rough wether.
The all weather port and bigger airport will be a good long term infrastructure for locals.
Its probably the best thing that ever happened to them.
oh, and im sure the crabs will be fine, i dont think the locals go hooning around trying to find crabs to drive over... when they are on the move its quite literally hard to avoid them unless you turn around and drive all the way around the island.
My sister used to live there, the above opinions are based on what she told me.
Can anyone recommend a "good" dvd player for linux.
What should i look for in a dvd, should i try and get a region free one, or can you get jumpered region drives ?
Im a bit lost when it comes to selecting what a "good" DVD unit is.
People should be held responisble for their actions, being in desperate circumstances isnt an excuse to be a law unto yourself.
If society was just and fair the "the worst neighbourhood" shouldnt be a place to avoided.
When i say "Criminals are victims of society" i mean that society is in a *small* part responsible for the upbringing of its people so they have to accept *some* responsiblity for people having values that allow them to justify committing crime.
Or do you beleive some people are destined to be criminals from birth ?
If the writers are any good it will take them a while to build up the characters (take a leason from babylon 5)
If you compared the size fo binaries built with the same features then you may have had a point.
Also it has many archs now.
you are not thinking rationally.

How can you reduce the arguments of which pet is most worth to which one has the lowest maintenace cost.
You think a robot is going to replace mans best friend ?
I tried compiling Open Office, all i can say is that it doesnt have much of a future untill they fix the build system.
Open office requires 2GB of disk space and over 20 hours (or 40 i forget) to compile. The compile failed for me withing 5 minutes.
Its hard for developers to wade through all this bloat.
In its current state its much more productive for develoeprs to work on other office projects like KDE or gnome.

So when does this superball climb everest ?
Wind doesnt always blow uphill
Be realistic, they dont have a hope in hell of sitting this thing ontop of hill and it not eventually rolling down.
Maybe it could climb a small altitude in strong wind, but they have no hope of exerting any real control of this thing by deflating and inflating it.
They have lost the plot.
I cant believe they would go through with something like this.
There is a force... called gravity !
This idea that the thing they call a "ball", will roll DOWNHILL due to gravity.
Common, you think wind is going to blow these up ontopof mountain ranges (hehe), or down into valleys.
The shape of a ball doesnt exactly lend itself to catching the wind either.
It will probably endup rolling down to a spot sheltered from the wind and stay their forever.

Cmon Taco, think about what your saying.
You think spammers should have to pay postage but (i assume) you think everyone else shouldnt.
Why should people pay *artificial* taxes.
Why should people pay the government when the goverment is doig nothing.
I dont see what the problem with spam is anyway, i just ignore it and it doesnt bother me. i dont see why others cant do the same.
And while im on my highhorse, if you cool with censoring spam, you should be happy for slashdot to be cenrored. (which i would hate to see more of)
But what does that have to do with pacman ?
I remember the arcade game well, but have no clues whatsoever what pacman has to do with the GPL or Free Software generaly
Can someone explain it to me, or has Billy boy just gone crazy(ier).
Image the bloat hell we would be in if everyone linked their projects statically to libraries.
I was getting 30fps on ssytem -bench with my Matrox G450 and k6-2 500 from the 4.0.3 deb
Upgraded it myself from the binaries now i only get 10 fps.....
