I get modded as a troll for saying that cinema owners should have a right to block cell phone signals in their own property.
This guy gets modded insightful for saying they should be shot. Nice, slashdot.
Yes, vibrate mode is an option. But people don't all use this, so all signals should be blocked if this is what the owner of the premises wants. The premises should have a sign letting people know.
People survived before cell phones. So, tough for them if they think they're important enough to be on call all the time. TS. Shouldn't negate the rights of owners of businesses.
There is an element in the environmentalist movement that basically hates humanity and human progress. A deep-seated loathing rests within those individuals.
Not the entire movement by any means, but there is an element.
Economic development of the Moon would be a glorious thing. Turning that barren lump of rock into an engine of progress, a spring board for the colonization of other planets and perhaps other solar systems one far off day.
I'm a regular, and I think "In Soviet Russia" jokes are funny precisely because they are so pointless and unfunny, just like the CowboyNeal poll options.
I have come across an instance of youtube deleting hundreds of newsreel films from an account which were public domain for over 60 years.
Maybe youtube should spend some time on finding out if the items they delete are actually in copyright first before deleting them, in addition to spending time on this system.

I also fear bears, for they are giant marauding godless killing machines.
Not the kind of game I would normally be interested in, but this ban makes me want to obtain this by other means, and donate a fair price to Rockstar (if this is somehow possible).
Tell me, if the man you referred to running towards an underground train with a backpack on shortly after severeal suicide bombings had been a suicide bomber too
He wasn't wearing a backpack, and he wasn't running. Neither was the train driver, who also had a gun pointed at him, but wasn't executed on the spot like this poor guy.
You don't really know what you're talking about, do you?
If you actually read what I wrote (a mere three sentences worth), you'll see that I didn't say that tuning was *just* a pre-gig ritual.
What I did say was that tuning takes a few seconds, so not much inconvenience there.
This thing doesn't tune dynamically, so you'll need to re-tune every so often with this also, but automatically. After having wasted a lot of money. And hopefully the second guitarist (if there is one, there isn't in my band) and the bass player have one, or it'll take pretty much the same amount of time. A few seconds worth.
Perhaps English isn't your native tongue. Either way, you need to seriously brush up on your reading skills.
Why on Earth would they balk at that? YouTube is trying to make money out of people watching videos for free, via advertising. This is their business plan.
When was the last time there was a slashdot article about a good SF novel? Something genuinely thought inducing, something that challenges the mind, something which speaks to our future? There are plenty of new books like that.
Why is there this slashdot post about an inane fantasy book, written with greasy teens and kids in mind?
Can I look forward to slashdot posts about every over-hyped, lame, worthless book/film/single/TV program that comes out in future?
Therefore, Microsoft being slightly hurt because of a patent infrigement ruling == neutral and we can all go home and have a nice cup of tea.
PS I'm scared because my last post was modded "flamebait", possibly because I accidentally called Canada the "People's Republic of Canuckistan". That hurt.
That's great, because rubber duck distribution skills are vital for today's modern executives in nascent monopoly companies.
For numerous reasons, I'm beginning to get where Steve Ballmer was coming from...
Being repeatedly annoyed by inconsiderate cell-phone users over the years, in bars, restaurants and cinemas would explain it even better though.
Or, more likely, he's glad that he's not at someone's beck and call 24/7, and hence has a life.
"Blockers should be shot" isn't abusive, whereas "business owners should have rights" is?
BTW, I said they "should". This doesn't imply ignorance of any laws. You're plain wrong on both counts.

Don't go to the movies if you're on call then. Simple.
Cinema owners/managers should have the right to block whatever signals they want from entering their own property.
No doubt all annoying twerps think their call is important, so important that they should ruin the experience for everyone else.
But that's changing, and if you don't like it, tough, don't go.

This is good news for freedom of expression, and for the internet in general, because most of it consists of porn.
In other porn news, bestiality-porn is about to be made illegal in my country, which saddens me because I like goats.

Coincidentally, I just tried to visit that site. It's of course down.
And then I went here to slashdot and saw this story.
But now I must be moving on again, in my travels across the intertubes.

I have a few, but number one would be Syndicate.

I hate real player too, but installed it a while ago to listen to BBC radio programs (some of which are worth it).
In case anyone cares, this is apparently why they persist in using this abomination: http://www.bbc.co.uk/feedback/broadband_faq.shtml#latelyFAQ8
I very much doubt a future world war will be started by either Japan or Germany. Both are stable and peaceful democracies
Your best bet is a new cold war, this time between the US and China, turning hot, maybe in a few decades.
Don't take the phrase "history always repeats itself" too literally. It doesn't really.

It takes me (and most other guitarists) a few seconds to tune a guitar.
It's a pleasant, harmless little ritual, and somewhat calming before you play a gig.
This is a silly and expensive gizmo, IMO.

Use of lasers to blind soldiers is against the geneva convention. Unsurprisingly people have thought of this before you.
The CIA are trying to work out which trees should be bombed.
