I actually avoided the Starship Troopers movies until I read on imdb that they were ruthless satires of a fascist society peopled by idiots.
So even though they are certainly not in the spirit of the book I actually enjoyed the 1st one immensely, although based on the ratings they appear to tail off pretty quickly in the subsequent ones.
WORD -this happened to me in Italy several year ago.
I was in Florence in the summer and went through a 'no congestion' zone more than twice in 20 minutes or whatever the time limit was
apparently in the winter when tourism drops they just have people review video footage or something because 6 months later I got a $150 charge from the rental company
Since they didn't notify me I first thought it was a fraudulent charge, so I contested it at first and then they sent me the date and time of the infraction and I realized what had happened...
I can see this abused by organizations and individuals who have perpetrated frauds on people or who have acted in other devious and underhanded ways to make it more difficult to find sites that expose their activities (ie Scientology mind control, fraud, etc)
All they would have to do was to point to some civil suit that they had against the people making the alleged false claims to 'prove' that they were fighting these baseless accusations and that the results should be removed from autocomplete
I can see this also requiring rooms full of lawyers testing google searches to look for potential infringements.
the thing that comes to my mind is anytime I see a questionable website in an email or webpost I run it through google and it often suggests 'malware', 'virus' or 'trojan' which might offend someone who was selling some piece of crap like 'speedupmypc' or something
Many Canadian conservatives and law and order types look hungrily at all of the liberty and due process depriving laws that the US has enacted since 9/11/01
I hope this isn't playing into that strategy, but it seems plausible
not to mention during disasters such as the Loma Prieta earthquake (of which I was about 7 miles from the epicenter) when I don't believe we even had a dial tone for the first day on residential lines (although there were a lot of lines down in the Morgan Hill-Gilroy area fwiw).
Halting State by Charles Stross covered this in what seemed like a pretty realistic way, with overlays for both fun (treasure hunts, real life MMOG, etc) and for things like facial recognition, being directed to a location, etc
obviously an act of God! -now be careful that you do not anger him again or something bad may happen sometime to you in the future (up to and including death)
yeah this seems pretty weak -but they are probably looking at the examples of people like Oracle and MS who prohibit customers from running and publishing benchmarks on their software.
However, that is probably part of the licensing agreement and not something that one would expect to apply to a piece of off-the-shelf consumer gear
hopefully they'll get bitch slapped for this in the courts as well as in teh court of public opinion
Hopefully this will allow for an Abrams style reboot of the franchise as has been done with Star Trek and pass the torch to new young actors who can hopefully age gracefully for the next 10-15 years...
now all they need is enough story and character to cover about 7 hours of movie for parts 7-9
I heard that some of the clone war writers were pretty good -or maybe alan Dean Foster???

don't know whether it is true or not, but it is not exactly entrapment when the investigating body asks you to continue doing something illegal while they investigate, but it could be some sort of 'under color of authority' deal where it is not right for police to tell you to do something (or continue to do something) illegal either.
Of course, if MU were already hosting illegal materials before this point then they were presumably still/already infringing....but along with some pretty questionable co-operation by NZ authorities this case may not be looking too good...
that it cannot be used to extract money from the gullible and hopeful -esp in America where the common man knows so much more than the engineer or the scientist...so in that sense it is a good idea just like all the weight loss and sex aid supplements you see on late night cable
wait until the ISPs that are also content owners or carriers get in on this (ie. comcast and AT&T)
there won't be a Chinese wall in the world big enough to keep the isp departments from ratting you out to their big content departments and to the MAFIAA
and they will probably use this to crack down on Linux.iso s and other homegrown or otherwise free legitimate content and then homogenous corporate media will have won....
were also very good -esp Alastor

Knight and Wizard both appear to be Fantasy, but you cannot always be sure of what is what or who is who in his books -like in the Short Sun series.
He also favors unreliable narrators, with the Soldier of Arete/Latro of the Mist series being most frustrating in that regard.

also -note to eds -I'm sure the presentation time on Sat is 7pm PDT -NOT EDT
