The company I used to work for serviced and installed BAC interlock devices that "disable" your car until you blow into it to prove you aren't drunk. (If you got a DUI and the state took your license you could get one of these guys installed and get your license back) Anyway, what you are suggesting is impractical, having to have in-depth knowledge of the electronic infrastructure of the car, etc. Way easier to install a relay in the "start" wire and be done with it, that's what these interlocks did. It's generally easy to bypass if you aren't shy about digging into your car and know what you are looking for, but a talented installer can make it very difficult to figure out what's going on. In general, people are very shy about digging into their car's electrical system, most people just aren't willing to take the risk of destroying their car.
Wow. The butthurt is strong with this AC. Would it have not hurt your feels as much if I said "Take an entry-level position and try harder than everyone around you"?
Methinks you are bitching just for the sake of bitching. Your last point was the tip-off:
Well shit, I'd like to take any shit job, but I can't even find anything for minimum wage. Do you know anything about how the shit economy is in the shitter?
The "economy is shit" ship has sailed. We certainly aren't in the golden era of employment, wage growth is still stagnant and the unemployment rate is artificially lower than it should be, but if you can't even find a minimum wage job you aren't looking hard enough. My local WalMart starts their associates at $11/hour and they just dropped their drug testing policy because they couldn't find employees. If you show up for most of your shifts and have an IQ higher than a rock you could be in a management position within 6 months.
Do you ever look outside your ivory tower?
Fucking spare me. You're not going to find yours by sitting on your ass, bitching about your life on Slashdot.
That is actually how my 13 year old mind read the title at first. I got through my first subsequent thought of "there are a lot of knobs in all kinds of software development" before I made the connection. (Cue Beavis and Butthead laugh.)
1) Look for a smaller company. The kind that doesn't have an "HR department", less likely to have to get past an HR drone in order to get your resume in front of someone that can recognize your skills.
2) Figure out which buzz words need to be on your resume and get them on there. You may not like Node.JS (for example), and hate everything that it stands for, but if that what gets you in the door somewhere you may have to just suck it up and learn it.
3) Get a job as a janitor (or whatever) at company that's in the field you want to be in. My first "IT/Programming Job" was as a salesman at a car stereo shop. The CEO of my current company started out as a warehouse worker.
4) Take any shit job you can find and kick ass at it. It's easier to find a job when you have a job.
While AT&T is picky about where it deploys its high speed services*, if this lawsuit happens, where do you draw the line ?
Do you sue X for not building a local store in your neighborhood ?
Perhaps Y for not having local franchises of your favorite restaurant ?
In your example, X and Y are not contractually obligated to provide service in your area. That was the deal with the telcos, "We'll grant you a monopoly (and give you a shit pile of money) if you agree to provide service to everybody"
Once is a tragedy.
Twice is a coincidence.
Thrice is an attack....
...It is clear that there is some form of electronic warfare
I don't think that anything is "clear" at this point, but in place of your (what I assume is a quote) I suggest Hanlon's razor: "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity". I can't imagine the level of sophistication it would take to get two vessels to run into each other. Negligence seems like a far more likely explanation. But as I said, nothing is clear at this point.
I mean, I understand your sentiment. But this seems like a company exiting a business the right way. Notifying and giving customers ample time to find a replacement. Would you rather they just shut their business down and put up a "fuck you" landing page? Further, what is your suggestion for Joe and Jane User for their backup solution? Here are the requirements: 1) Little to no computer knowledge needed. 2) Replicated off-site. 3) 5-10$/month 4) Hands-off backup.
A solution that meets your average user's needs is not possible without "the cloud"
Suppress wages? I guess it depends on the trade and area in question. In the Upper Midwest a Journeyman Boilermaker, Pipefitter, Electrician, or Carpenter (The industrial/scaffolding kind, don't personally know about the house-building kind) can bring home $80-100K a year. Apprentices generally start at around 65% of that. Granted, it's super hard work and a lot of people don't cut it, but you can't say $100k a year is a "Suppressed wage".
+1 on BitBucket. Saved my ass a number of times. And source control/version control if not for anything other than "what the hell did I change two months ago", in addition to "shit, I just deleted my whole project"
At least they have the nag screen that makes you specify why you're shutting down/rebooting before it actually reboots. But not having a minor heart attack when closing every RDP session would be awesome, it's not like horizontal lines and a little padding are expensive.
Side comment/anecdote... I had to reformat/reinstall my home multi use gaming/programming/ general use windows PC, I have a main SSD that holds the OS and most programs and a separate "data" raid array to hold the "important" stuff. (And a remote git repository with nightly commits, and a recent pull onto a different machine, and a backup of the data drive) Figured I was safe, so I just formatted and reinstalled. No problem until I realized that XAMPP was running on the SSD. Database fucking gone, no backup, no secondary copy. Luckily I had an SQL dump from a month or so prior, but still took me 2 nights work to get it back to where I could continue developing, and a bunch of regression testing to figure out what else was screwed up. Moral of the story...I now include a full SQL dump in my nightly commits.
Second thought, what is the PROPER way to make sure your database structure and supporting data are included in your code commits? For example, structure only isn't enough because all of the RBAC info is stored in the database.
Or maybe just the ones that put on the uniforms, and carry the flags, and call themselves Nazis. (I mean, they are pretty easy to pick out in a crowd.)
here's my mainstream article about why violence against nazis is ok
Don't see anything in his comment about beating up Nazis. Or any links to articles for that matter.
but everyone i dont like shouldn't be able to speak because thats violence
Or it could just be that he's pointing out inciting violence isn't protected by free speech laws. But what the hell do I know, I'm just a guy that can read a sentence for what it is.
Well what good is condemning it after the fact when they knowingly harbor them until they nail people to walls at concerts? Unless they're willing to outcast and report those people before someone dies, they don't belong in our civilization
Are you referring to neo-nazi terrorists or muslim terrorists?
Just referring to BLM (not going to talk about Antifa), that doesn't seem to be a fair comparison. The IDEALS of their "organizations" aren't similar. Yes, you can find examples of calls for violence and actual violence within the BLM community but their message certainly is not "get rid of everyone that isn't black".
Specifically to your point: If BLM was actively promoting the elimination of whites, as a member of that race you can bet your ass I'd be singing the same tune.
I was about to call BS, my pea-sized brain immediately thought "there is now way that small wattage would make much of a difference." But this seems to indicate that 350 watts is enough to raise a well insulated 10'x10'x10' room 10 degrees. You definitely have a valid point.
If Clinton can get impeached for lying about a BJ, I think there is plenty to get trump in trouble,
I have to disagree with that second point, if there was enough for an impeachable offense he would have been impeached. There is enough animosity for him on Capitol Hill he'd be gone in a heartbeat if there was something there. Clinton got impeached for lying under oath about a BJ. Lying under oath is an impeachable offense.
That being said, it's only a matter of time before he does something illegal enough. If I was a betting man, I'd be betting that Trump doesn't complete his 4 years. Eventually his boundary pushing is going to push too far past the "questionable line" and into illegal territory.
Domain registration is not the same thing as hosting. Once the DNS is politicized...
You know that DNS, Domain Registration, and Hosting are three independent things, right? This isn't google saying "Our DNS service will no longer resolve your host name" this is Google saying "we aren't willing to sell you that host name any more". It's a fine line, but once this website finds someone who is willing to sell them the name, 4.4.4.4 is still going to resolve it. As far as I can tell, Google isn't attempting to re-write how DNS works in order to "censor DNS". There's a difference between saying "you can't use that name" and "we're not going to sell it to you".
It is beyond time for the congress to move forward with impeachment.
While I'm not supporting Trump in any way shape or form, what impeachable offense has he committed? Unfortunately "being an idiot", "careless use of twitter", "stretching the truth", "denying science", etc. are not crimes in this country. And unfortunately impeaching because you don't like the guy and or his policy is not an option, nor should it be. Granted some of the stuff, like using his golf resorts, hotels, etc for official business, is pushing the line on self enrichment, I haven't heard any compelling arguments that he has committed crimes of an impeachable nature.
These things are the same as saying that the North Koreans *are not* capable of these things.
Are you basing that off conjecture or facts? None of the things you mention, withstanding reentry, perfecting nav hardware/software, withstanding flight, are new things. They have all been done since the 60s. Willing to bet that NK hasn't figured those out in the last 50 years?

There are 16,128 IT jobs posted on Indeed in Minneapolis If you can't find a job you're not trying hard enough. The world doesn't owe you anything, the sooner you accept that the happier you will be.
Who proceeded to use your own foul language repeated back to you as evidence to discredit the argument?
Not sure why you're so fixated on the language rather than the point.
Well shit, I'd like to take any shit job, but I can't even find anything for minimum wage. Do you know anything about how the shit economy is in the shitter?

Three suggestions, in order of what to do first:
1) Look for a smaller company. The kind that doesn't have an "HR department", less likely to have to get past an HR drone in order to get your resume in front of someone that can recognize your skills.
2) Figure out which buzz words need to be on your resume and get them on there. You may not like Node.JS (for example), and hate everything that it stands for, but if that what gets you in the door somewhere you may have to just suck it up and learn it.

I mean what's so difficult about scheduling an automatic backup to their own NAS or heaven forbid- a USB attached external HDD?
2) Replicated off-site.
A USB Solution/NAS does you no good when your house burns down, gets flooded, computer gets stolen, etc.
I mean, I understand your sentiment. But this seems like a company exiting a business the right way. Notifying and giving customers ample time to find a replacement. you're going to need
Let me stop you there. You don't NEED any of those.
7 seems excessive... But I agree with the sentiment.

$250k will buy you two mid-level security engineers for a year. (source) That doesn't seem like that would cut it for an organization as large as HBO.
which have not flow that far...
Yet.
