Anyway, stop playing heavily marketed FPSs if you want a good single player experience.

You most likely can use a raspi to generate an snes compliant snes framebuffer and copy it with the snes DMA just like the super FX chip does. But you will be limited to 20 fps due being all you can copy during the vblank period.

The ideal scenario is a place where trolling don't work, the ol good "don't feed the trolls", or a place that ridicularize em effectively when just ignoring don't work anymore.

It was exactly a "bunch of random companies schlocking together COTS hardware to meet a standard and getting nothing in return" competing against closed boxes like the Amiga, ST,mac... and while they didn't as far i know used Subsidy, they were pretty much fully verticalized companies that had no way to compete against in price at least at the beginning.
A more modern example would be the Android, where its again a bunch of chinese manufacturers following an standard and having no subsidy whatsoever.
Even if there was any sort of "magical or supernatural event", it would end being just some regular but unknown physics property or some smart use of the existing laws.
