Ok you win.... beat me to the very same comment.
People get so cuaght up with the "Ooooo.... Look at that.... Isn't that pretty!" thing that they don't look a the technology. That's why most stores don't put HDTV CRT's next to Plasma or LCD HDTV's, if they did the Plasmas and LCD's wouldn't sell quite as briskly. Also they tend to put these flat panels in darker areas of the store so the contrast and brightness are enhanced, unlike most well lit rooms.
Welcome to the era of Corporate Facism, that is in effect what we in the USA are living under. A time when Corporate interests are too often put above the interests of Joe/Jane Citizen. The whole goal, seemingly, of the Current Executive Branch of Government, is to help the Corporations and there "Major" stockholders and Executives who in turn, having already put them in office, will make sure they have lucrative positions on leaving office. This has nothing to do with skill, but is has much to do with who you know and who's palm you greased. Unfortunately too may politicians of both parties succumb to the sway of the mighty dollar, but the current Republican party has taken this to new heights(lows?)
On a side note:
Companies often say that they need to make drastic changes not becuase they are losing money but because they aren't making a large enough profit. How long can a company's shareholders or board expect an increasing profit margin year in , year out? What amount of profit is "good enough"? Why should an Executive's be payed up to 9 figure salaries only to run the company into the ground. This only makes sense if there is collusion among The Board and Major stock holders to do so after all they approve the Exec's salary package, they must all be getting something out of this. Studies show that there has been a major shift of wealth away from the middle class and you wonder why? Where are inflationary pressures really coming from? Decent wages? Or this shift of wealth to the few?
I have yet to see CFL's that can be used with dimmer controls or 3-way lamps. In our house your looking at $1,000.00+ of obsolesence. How about home theater lighting? I guess your choice will be a) none, b) low wattage movie lighting, c) Higher wattage area lighting, d)Install 2-3 times as many fixtures to give you the same lighting options as a single 3-way incandesent bulb.
Most people don't drive their SUV's @ 50,000 feet and eject exhaust gases at temperatures above 1,000 degree's F. I believe that there is more harm per/pound of CO2 emmissions at high altitude than at the tailpipe of a car. Of course no emmissions is better still.
I couldn't help but think that driving this vehicle I would have the Beatles song "I am the Walrus" going through my head becauser of the "Eggshell" front bucket seats. "...I am the eggman, they are the eggmen
I am the walrus, koo koo ka choo...."
The EU can't officialy support Linux because they can't figure out who to sue in court first. Can't sue the Penguin and I don't think suing Microsoft to make them change Linux to the EU's liking would work.;-p
OLED is far wosre than LCD or Plasma. It makes pretty images for a short lifespan and the colors degrade unevenly.
p.s.- I wonder how many people know that their High End DLP HDTV use a color wheel? What's the MTBF and DB of that wheel motor?
Some corporations and government entities seem to miss the fact that not fully deploying infrastructure cost more in the future to complete the task. If one uses forethought and not near term profit as a guideline we would be better off in many ways. Bet on a sure thing, in the short term, or create a market for the future.
Thank you for saying what I often voice to others in a vehicle I am driving or riding in. I would add, to avoid the panic issue, that if you cut me off, at least be using your turn signal and don't drive slower than me once you are in my lane. Also in a traffic scholl years ago, a CHP Officer was teaching the class, reminded everone that an Onramp is also known as an Acceleration Lane. Too many people wait until the Onramp merges with traffic to start accelerating. This creates a very dangerous situation, i.e.- rear-enders, side-swipes from people trying to dodge the slow car merging.
Given the issues and prices of current plasma and LCD, LCOS, DLP solutions.... I think I'll wait for S.E.D. TV's to arrive before deciding. My CRT serves me for now but I could by a Sony XBR WEGA Crt and save some money to upgrade angin in 2008 when the first S.E.D.'s are due out.

I would argue that MMORPG's when played as intended, meaning in character, are highbrow. The mention of Merchant-Ivory productions as highbrow entertainment, led me to think how Victorian Society played their roles in a very strict manor. One did not openly let their true selves show due to the rules of proper society and class destinction. This is much like the structure of RPG's.
To call something highbrow, one needs to take into consideration the makeup of the person making that statement. Some people think they are drinking swill if they don't pay more than $50.00 for a bottle of wine, while others can find a great wine in 2 Buck-Chuck.
"To be slightly serious, there's non-aesthetic reasons for this as well. With optical storage it's much faster to move the beam around than the media, and with rotating media your seek and read times alike are limited by the rotation speed."
The speed of a rotating disc is limited by the forces applied to it, you may have heard of flawed disc's self destructing in CD/DVD drives. Someone in another reply to this story mentioned the size of CD's were limited to 5 1/4" drive bays and 74 minutes capacity for the 9th Symphony, this is all well and true. If the size of the disc was larger than 5 1/4", the speed limit of the disc would have been met using existing materials in CD's long ago as the centrifugal forces would be greater. A cube may have problems due to the thickness of the media and scattering.
I guess I have to actually read the story source to see what the most important specifications are i.e., access time, read speed in mbps, and write spead in MBps(hmmm....or woulkd that be GBps?)

I'm thinking Vibrating penis implants. Better for her, no chemical side effects for you. Ouch!
You know when I put a Cd on my turntable it has no hiss, pops, crackle, clicks, or rumble.

"....false impressions...." = Propaganda The Republicans have taken propaganda to places they used to lambast the U.S.S.R. for going to.
