It would seem that things in Kansas are devolving. We go from inspiring other countries to improve election transparency and credibility in other countries to this.
Welcome to "The Cloud".... or A.S.P.(Application Service Provider). For about 10 years there has been this concept floating around of how to create a constant income stream from software, beyond one time purchases, upgrades and license's. What better way then to nickel and dime you all the way to the Bank than to charge you on a hourly basis.
The problem with touch screen voting systems is that they need to be properly Calibrated so that when you touch the graphic for your desired action, it's that graphic/action that is the proper one. It's like when I use my credit card in a store and sign on the " X____________________ " line half the time my name actually appears under the line, not where the tip of the stylus is. Of course in a voting machine an unscrupulous tech could purposely calibrate the machine to record an unintented vote, or he might just be lazy and not calibrate it at all or properly.
Wouldn't it be better to collect Licensing Fees on those Patents? Selling them off is not such a good idea in the long run. Seeing as how industries like to inflate costs based on holding patent rights, I find this a bad idea. It's akin to Privitizing Social Security. By the way how's all that, "Let that Market regulate itself", talk working out for you?
Bob Costas anounced that a bit of Cinamatic Trickery was about to be used in showing the video of firework footsteps in the sky. So there was actually full disclosure before they aired the footage. I guess some people forget to actually listen to and comprehend what they are hearing.
IIRC, when OLED technology started to come out they energy savings, i.e.- increased battery life, was touted, also the short lifespan of the display(dimming) and unequal color balance as the displays aged. I wonder if this is still the case? If so, they should be fine for cellphones but questionable as for use in items kept in use longer. It's one thing to be Green but tech-toy turnover is high and that is not Green!
I live in SSF, CA and some years ago, RCN.com installed a new cable network, they used Fiber Optic cable to get within 800 feet of any home in the network then used a "Node" to translate and carry the signal via Coaxial Cable to homes. It would be no great leap to replace those current "Nodes" with all optical ones and run Fiber to homes. RCN put in an "Overbuilt" fiber system so there is overhead for data useage increases and speed inprovments. RCN in our area was recently aquired by Astound.net and a tech hinted that in the future they may just do the fiber upgrade. It wouldn't even be a last mile cost, it would be far cheaper.
IIRC: $1,000.00 - $1,500.00
It was 2-3 years ago, so the exact details are fading. You can get a "Universal Gym" plate and cable type setup for far less, that does much more for you in a just slightly larger footprint
"oh...so THAT'S where that damned BOWFLEX came from!"
_____________________________________________________________
Reminds me of the time Costco carried a BowFlex in our local store. When I saw the price I realized why they never tell you what it costs in the TV commercials... WAY over priced. The quality of the construction was pretty bad too. BowFlex is an example of a product where the manufacturer depends on people being to lazy to return the product once they see how overpriced and poorly made it is.
You know what they say.... "If it looks to good to be true it probably is!"
Don't give up your unmetered ISP service just becuase you think your own use of the internet is bellow some arbitrary cap.
You let this cat-out-of-the-bag and you create the potential precident for other additional service charges to be levied against you. It's kinda like giving up personal freedoms for some theoretical protections from terrorists.
It seems to me that the computer can only win from either the first to move or second to move a checker.
I wonder which it is? This would mean that playing against itself, it could only win 50% of the time, not every time, therefore it is not unbeatable.
Also keep in mind that methods of construction and heating/cooling technologies have improved significantly. Houses retain heat much better and heating cooling systems are more efficient meaning less heat loss. Modern high quality heating furnaces can use PVC pipe to vent exhaust gasses, that gives just one example of how much less energy can be lost to the urban heat bubble.
This experiment for gravity wells could have been done in the comfort of your own home for musch less cost. Merely have the average person sit on one end of a 2 seat sofa. Next have a person weighing say.... 300lbs. sit on the other end of the sofa. The result is obvious, the the lower mass body will fall into the gravity well created by the larger mass body. Happens every time I go to my best friends house, I tend to fall into the gravity well he creates.
I have had this: http://www.numark.com/index.html?http://www.numark .com/products/product_view.php?v=overview&n=5 , turntable for a year now to archive 78rpm and 331/3rpm albums and EP's using it's SPDIF connector. I have 2 separate Shure cartridges for each type of album and use Adobe Audition 2.0 to clean up the recordings. The turntable is built very well and came with a Straight-Arm, best for DJ's and S-Arm, best for recording. Back in the day I used to by my albums, play them once to record them on Cassette's, and put them away,so now I have quite a few pristine vinly albums. My parents 78's are in rougher shape and I need to use Bias's SoundSoap to help in the clean up. Still I can get very good fidelity after the restoration. If you have a sound card with SPDIF it's a better choice than USB.
....unless you believe that Volcano's exist and do erupt.

I hope Newcastle Brown Ale was served, it's my favorite English brew.
.... what about this polymers clarity and resistance to any discoloring over time?
I'm perfect!
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken

Maybe Apple didn't want to pay the Firewire Technology fees to itself? -Eric

That's phone abuse. Why take it out on your poor phone. The idea here is to "OPT-OUT", as in never have to answer the call in the first place. -Eric

Personally, I don't want my gaming sessions interrupted by commercials every 10-15 minutes. ;p

He's 100 years old? I just knew it.... that he was really Lazarus Long.
IIRC this new device dosen't produced heat. It explodes the molecules of the target in high energy but very fast/short bursts in a pulsing action.
