If you want a survival-themed game that takes a bit of a different tack, Banished was just released... It's a sort of city builder, though it's nothing like sim-city (maybe a little bit like dwarf fortress). If you do try it, make sure to watch some guides on youtube (I recommend Quill18's, video #5 in particular). It's really not very forgiving at all and even after the tutorials, without a few tricks you'll probably die pretty quick.
Besides that, I've been playing FFXIV, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it. It does a few things well, like the holy trinity, but it's all very linear... dungeons are really a grind with only one path and so on, you never really have to find your own way around or make your own adventure like it's predecessor...
Even the journal article linked to by the blog seems to be scant on details. I was hoping there'd at least be a few appendices on these things, but no such luck. Anyone know exactly what "joy words," "fear words," et al are?
Firefox 3 is not worth it from my experience. It's crashed 3 times to the point where it wipes out all my settings and I have to reconfigure everything, such as permitted sites with NoScript. It's crashed several more times where nothing was lost, but that still put its on the same level as IE.
On top of that, its handing of multiple windows seems to be very buggy. The bookmarks toolbar disappears and sometimes it won't let me into subfolders on the bookmarks menu. It also feels considerably more sluggish, and this is on a freshly formatted machine (only reason I "upgraded."). Among other issues, such as occasional problems with Gmail.
Next time I get a settings wipe I am probably just going to return to Firefox 2.
Some places do, actually, have policies that require that one be 18+ and have ID to purchase M-rated games. Of course, it's really about as effective as DRM...
Nothing is perfectly secure. Nothing. And yeah, most of them probably are too dumb. At any rate, kids can be very, very clever when it comes to circumvention.
I got the impression that, in addition to what you said, the deep web also included entire sites not indexed, perhaps due to a robots.txt that prohibits it?
The FBI took a shotgun approach toward protesters partly because of the FBI's "belief that dissident speech and association should be prevented because they were incipient steps toward the possible ultimate commission of act which might be criminal," according to a Senate report.
Firstly, tor with Privoxy and a Firefox plugin that makes it easy to switch between it and a direct connection. Others may use FreeNet, but I personally don't bother.
For IRC, connect using SSL (If you trust the network admins. Even if you don't, still better than nothing) and perhaps through Tor as well. For email, anything PGP-ish.

Thanks in advance.
Gamestop bought Impulse.
Not wearing a seatbelt in the US does, in fact, go against the law...
But don't let that get in the way of your US bashing...
I don't know about Japan but this is common in South Korea. Taxi drivers too. Not uncommon for someone to watch the game or whatever and drive...
Sorry... I was in a rush at the time. I guess I started typing "sw" and my fingers took over from there.
...
And your daughter's children? (If the textbooks make it out of Texas...)

Teraflops . Singular is still tflops .
Why don't they just introduce a bill that blocks the internet (Or internets, since we're dealing with politicians) and be done with it?

Only one person needs to discover a method of circumvention. Then this person just needs to share how they did it.
Think about that. Think about how it applies to more than just GPS tracking.

What about the deep web? Can netcraft's count be even remotely accurate?

Welcome to China.
(This scares the hell out of me.)

Also, for protecting my files, I use TrueCrypt.
