The bottom line is Vista is here: and it totally stinks. They would be better off supporting XP until NT7 arrives.
This is the window of oppurtunity for a distro like Ubuntu to capatalise on. It's crazy popular, I know twice as many people using it than every other distro put together.
Automatix is what most Ubuntu users use for this stuff, but it can have legal rammifications as Automatix proves access to libdvdcss which has legal issues in some countries.
An Automatix equivilent could be the way to go.
Right now every distro has its specific advantages. One distro that can package all this together could make a Vista killer
* AD/Exchange Support (SLED, Xandros) * Better MS office compatibility like VBA macro support(SLED) * Good UI (looking foward to KDE4) * Good solid base (Ubuntu) * Good commercial support (Red Hat) * Propierty applications and codecs (Linspire) * Name brand reckonition (Novell, Red Hat) * Momentum (Ubuntu)
I agree that you shouldn't be running something like an MTA at a root level but like the above said, not every daemon has an option of being run at a lower level.
Sure its not good practice but if you need something working now you are not going to wait for the developers to change the code: especially if they have no intention on doing so.
Developers of many high level process I think have relied on chroot as a crutch, its more than just "up to the administrator" its more so up to the dev's to give you the option of not having to run the process as root in the first place.
Jack: What happen ? Guard: Somebody set up us the bunk. Guard: We get cell Jack: What ! Guard: Main cell turn on. Jack: It's you !! Kent: How are you gentlemen !! Looks like things are starting to get interesting. There goes my conspirecy theory about it being a publicity stund, then again it still could be and backfired.
Exactly, online distribution can cut the middle man out. Then you have record companies having to lower their "share" meaning less money for them and more for the artists.
Once it gets to the point where you dont need a label to be famous, the labels are in big trouble as they have lost their monopoly over the industry.
Dell and HP finally getting around to pre-installing Linux could not have come at a better time.
I have to this day spent less than 30 minutes with Vista and that was nearly 30 minutes too long. Hardware doesnt work, it reminds me of XP on a 400Mhz PII/256Mb RAM as far as how clunky it is, you cant maintain a decent network connection. I dont mean to be a troll but Vista is an absolute joke.
From now own I take my business to places that will pre-install Ubuntu
In australia, mod chips are protected. Technically reigion locking is illegal to force on somebody here. The PS3 is the ONLY system around that is in full complience.
I was thinking of modding my Wii and wait to see if I wont get access to updates or online play. If it happens I'll sue
