  2. Nothing new at MIT on Sniffing the Wireless Traffic of MIT Students · · Score: 2, Funny

Nothing new here. The same thing was done in 2005 when I was in the class. It was done by the professor himself and the next day he was able to display the IM conversation two kids were having in the class. One end was encrypted so he didn't think he could be caught, but the other end was not, so the prof was able to display the chat. Basically the chat had something to do about how bored the student was. It was quite amusing.

This is a great move by the NHL. This won't cause the Center Ice package to lose money, since you can't actually watch the sling + clip clips live.
I have a HD-DVR cable box, so i can control my dvr and cable box all from my slingbox. Being on the road 4 out of 5 days a week, slingbox has been a lifesaver. And being a fan of the NHL, i can actually enjoy my center ice package using the slingbox.

NHL players have also embraced this technology. The NJ Devils were given Slingboxes as a Christmas present. I know that a bunch of them use it on the road to follow other teams/friends.

The NHL struggles with viewership. My solution, put it back on ESPN!!! The coverage on ESPN is so much better than NBC/Versus. Get that boring-ass Bill Clement off the air and that moronic Brett Hull off the air as well. Mike "Doc" Emerick is the only good thing they got going for them. Also, shrink the league so that they get rid of any team that doesn't have atleast 5 days of snow a year!

I really should work for the NHL, I'd turn it around real quick.

  9. How to hack Hotel TV to connect laptop? on Slingbox Comes to the Mac · · Score: 1

I have tried everything I can, but I can't figure out how to hook up my laptop to hotel tvs that have those stupid OnCommand or Lodgenet devices attached to them. I have s-video to s-video as well as s-video to rca cables. I also have a universal remote because the hotel remotes don't have an input button. Problem happens when i hit the input button....nothing happens. The source does not change! There is also no input/source button on the tv :( What the heck can I do. The onCommand device is securely attached to the tv. The coaxial cables have these lock thing to prevent them from being taken off. Has anyone successfully removed these(and subsequently put them back) without damaging the tv or cable? I really want to watch my slingbox on the hotel tv, but I cannot figure out any other way. A quick google search of hacking the hotel tv brings up stories about people who have been able to remove the cable from the wall, and hack into the oncommand system to get all the pay channels, but none of these stories will be able to help me in my case. I figure if people on slashdot can't figure it out, then it's pretty near impossible to do without breaking things.

As an MIT alum myself recruite during her regime, I am sad she is leaving. Well-rounded people are necessary to keep the place sane! You know how tough it is, and without some amount of normality, the suicide rate would have kept increasing and increasing. Well-rounded is fine at MIT as long as they are mentally tough. Without that toughness you are bound to fail out. This whole thing smells like an inside job, as if someone was holding this information not only over marilee's head, but also over the Institue's head. She did quite a fine job in the admissions dept and I hope her strategy at recruiting lives on. Your comments sounds as if the students admitted during her regime weren't "qualified" enough to be at MIT. I'll tell you though, the quality of MIT student has been increasing every year. The talent pool just gets better and better. You being admitted pre-1997 doesn't show that you are any better than any mit student admitted post-1997. With her resignation, it also does not discredit the plethora of students who graduated during this period.

If we had a med school, we'd be good at that too. The HST department does amazing work.
