The firing of the Huawei Vice President shows that the company is trying to save face and fully knows about (and even condones) what this person was doing. It just goes to show that even Chinese companies will sell out their own.
Crowdfunding the border wall might be a good idea. The irony of doing it that way is that it will show just how unpopular it is overall. I will bet that it will fail to reach the goal because only the lunatic fringe wants the wall built. As an NBC commentator noted, "It is a 13th century solution to a 19th century problem." Drugs will still make it into the United States by flying them via drones. Furthermore, those wishing to cross illegally need only to dig tunnels.
If you didn't read the news, you wouldn't know there is a federal shutdown.
There is literally no impact on regular Americans outside of DC.
As long as the taxes are removed from my paycheck, the government is not shut down.
I don't even feel sorry for the nonessentials. Go look for a new job not funded by taxpayers if you want to avoid political gridlock delaying your paycheck.
That's just not true. 800,000 Americans have been directly impacted by the shutdown. By directly impacted, I mean that they are not receiving a paycheck. You have a right not to feel sorry for those impacted but don't go around saying that nobody outside of DC is effected as that is just plain false.
This is a solution looking for a problem. There is nothing wrong with the way smartphones currently operate and I see no need for a smartphone that you can roll-up or fold. The bottom line is that we've passed peak smartphone and everyone involved in this sector of electronics is desperately searching for new sources of growth where there is simply none to be had. I am not about to fork over the kinds of money that an electronics company would want for such a gadget anyway. As it is, I refuse to pay more than 200.00 for a phone as I don't see the point. Nobody really needs a flagship device anyhow. Instead, people have convinced themselves that they need an iPhone or high end Android and have bought into the marketing hype hook, line, and sinker. Someone once said that a marketing guru might need the 4K camera of an iPhone and I replied that any marketing/creative professional worth their salt would have a D-SLR camera.
Well, it looks like the swamp water just got a whole lot deeper and a whole lot muddier. This is what happens when you elect a wealthy person with Anti-social Personality Disorder with Narcissism. The blame solely falls on Donald Trump and his egoism. All he has to do is simply admit failure and move on but he instead intends to play with the livelihood of 800,000 government employees that depend on their paychecks. And with the security certificates not being renewed, Trump is playing with the security of US Government computer systems. This is not a good thing at all!
I was wondering when this was going to happen. IMHO, Bandersnatch really sucked much like the Choose Your Own Adventure book series. I remember reading them when I was a kid and wondering what the hell was so great about them.
VLC is a good open source player. My only gripe is its shitty orange safety cone for an icon. Come on guys, you can do better than that! In all seriousness, VLC is a quality video player that I use both on my desktop and phone.
It's been fairly well researched that speed cameras actually cause more problems than they solve. Actually these cameras are a revenue generating scheme. Arizona did this for a while before ripping out most of them because they caused more accidents than they were hoping to prevent.
These are the results of corporate America not responding quickly enough (and maybe doubling down against) to demands by Americans for healthier foods. I feel badly for the small farmers that are adversely impacted because they basically produce what the larger buyers order them to produce. I recall something the President of Kraft Foods said in the 1960s. He said that these preservatives were made for the space race and to keep food fresh for astronauts on long trips. He specifically said these preservatives are not safe for long term consumption. It just goes to show Corporate America doesn't give a flying fuck about you and me past the money we give.
Why are we giving huge tax breaks to corporations only for them to turn around and lay off people? The answer is a sarcastic, "Because corporations...." More corporate wealthcare I guess.
I could care less that cancer rates are down for the wealthy. Who honestly gives a shit when they do so much to prevent the working class from getting good healthcare, jobs, and homes. The fact that cancer rates are down for a mere 1% (if that) of the population is inconsequential.
That's nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Compared with their revenue they've earned as a result of breaking the law, 19,000 is inconsequential. This does nothing to deter bad behavior on the part of corporations. I can just picture the solicitors having a huge laugh.
Yes, AMD is lagging behind but I will still go with AMD graphics over NVIDIA because NVIDIA has an anti-open source stance. It's good news that AMD's graphics chipsets are getting better.
Disabling the Facebook App is almost as good as deleting it. My LG Stylo 4 is rooted so I can see the process tree and there is no Facebook processes running when the app is disabled. Personally, I think it is anti-consumer to force users to use certain apps and not allow them to be deleted. This could be a nice class action lawsuit against Facebook, the phone manufacturers, and the carriers.
While I live in the United States, I am strongly encouraging my Canadian brothers and sisters to not grant Bell Canada the right to harvest such information. Learn from the mistakes that we in the states made. We gave away our privacy and caused all kinds of headaches that can never be undone. It's like a nuclear bomb. You drop it and everything is fucked up forever. Please, Canadians, have a sudden outbreak of common sense. Corporations cannot ever be trusted with our data. Please don't make the mistake that the US sheeple did by placing all this unearned trust in the hands of corporate poison like Facebook, Twitter, and Google - even more.
Corporations are liars. They will lie without any kind of conscience whatsoever to get a perceived advantage. Don't worry, Verizon has lied in the past about its behavior and it will do it again. Verizon calling out AT&T is the pot calling the kettle black.
The greed of the pay television industry will be its undoing. Mark my words.... they should be reducing prices to try to attract and retain customers, not raising prices. It will be funny when they all start bleeding money like a stuck pig.
It angers me to no end that we bailed out GM. If anything, GM is proof that no business is too big to fail and we should have let GM completely implode. So now GM is going back to building gas-guzzlers instead of responsible, (more) environmentally friendly smaller cars. GM and the other companies that got bailed out are proof that we practice a form of welfare called wealthcare. We had to protect the billionaire class and I am fucking sick of it.
I am not an apologist for China but neither am I for Apple. Apple simply hit peak iPhone and had no ideas to really innovate further. Let's put the blame where it really lies, with Apple. The last 3 years the changes were basically a better screen and a better camera and hardly worth spending that kind of money for so little in return. In fact, we've really hit peak smartphone altogether. Whatever changes we will see forthcoming are hardly worth the additional price. In fact, I stopped chasing the smartphone craze three years ago. Now I only get free phones offered by prepaid carriers. I usually float between 3 different ones depending on which company has the best deal. I would rather spend the money on a real digital camera.
It's great to see ARM chips take off in popularity. In ten years, Intel will be like Sun is now. ("Intel, like the old chipmaker gramps?")
I would like to see more ARM, RISC-V, and MIPS chips out there to loosen this unnaturally bad dependence upon two vendors: AMD and Intel. Both make shitty processors but AMDs are just less so.
I don't think that it will be just Apple feeling the pinch. We've really hot and passed the point of peak smartphone. At this stage, improvements will really only be in screen quality and processor. I believe that the improvements are less groundbreaking and more incremental.
So this is going to enable Apple and their ilk to even more aggressively force people to buy their own craptastic cables.
Good intentions, but I know exactly how this will be used.
Mark my words, it will be used to oppress the user, not protect them.
That will be the net effect. It's a stupid program designed to extort people for more of their hard earned money.
How is this news? Anyone can collect data from Wikileaks as that is kind of the point. The fact that this would be considered news is honestly funny.

This kind of provides confirmation bias that the Canadian arrest and detainment of the Huawei exec probably wasn't unfounded.
I was wondering when this was going to happen. IMHO, Bandersnatch really sucked much like the Choose Your Own Adventure book series. I remember reading them when I was a kid and wondering what the hell was so great about them.

Doesn't seem to be working very well...
Google's Play Protect is an epic failure!
