It's good to read that Mozilla is re-committing to development of Thunderbird. I happen to like Thunderbird and use it daily. Yes, it's UI can be clunky at times and it does need some work, but the bottom line, is that it is still better than M$ Outlook.
I'm sure Mark Zuckerberg was first in line so that his brain could be tested. Actually, I wish he had one that would short circuit and leave him a goddamed drooling vegetable. God I have that man.
Agreed! I don't want to be part of the China mass surveillance program. If the choice for me ever become between Chinese-provided satellite internet and none, I will happily and readily unplug.
As an amateur radio licensee, this kind of pisses me off because this will cause a huge back log of new licensee applications and new hams will have to wait longer for their call sign. To me, communications are critical. The Federal Bureaucracy is so bloated, surely there is an agency that is much lower down the food chain that would not be so mission critical.
Probably the best way to keep your network security is to neither use Chinese nor US Branded equipment. Instead, employ a little do it yourself mentality. I built my own and it's powered by OpenBSD. Still no guarantee but it's a lot more secure than all of the shitty stuff out there.
If a few people are able to game the advertisers and make a cool million, I am fine with that. The marketing corporations (and even large corporations in general) always look for ways to fuck over the little guy. If the little guy gets a little revenge, I have to give them 3 cheers.
Why does Microsoft always double down on the shitty products it makes instead of admit failure, learn a lesson, and move on? Edge is shitty! It has a crappy UI and overall feel. I am NOT going to use it and there is no convincing me otherwise: I don't even like Chrome. I am a Firefox user. I don't even care if Firefox is marginally less resource efficient if it has a good UI and smooth experience.
Senior management in the US should be held to the same standards and should go to prison for white collar crimes that they commit. Wealth and position should never be a get out of jail card.
I am strongly considering giving it a try because I've had it with technology! I mean I've absolutely had my fill of it. Technology has created a dystopia that it was meant to stave off. I want to be more present in my own life. Reading this article makes me think of how much joy that my smartphone has stolen from my life. I can no longer just sit down and watch TV without reaching for my smart phone. It's even become a distraction from reading. I used to lie down and read myself to sleep. Now I just "fuck around" on my smart phone and I don't really get super sleepy. I am sure it's negatively impacting my sleep biorhythms. I think my new year's resolution this year is to ditch the smart phone. I'll buy a printer so the few times that the few times I need directions, I can just print them out. Hells, maybe I'll just buy a used hardware GPS.
Hotels also have a legal army behind them to keep people generally in line. Hotels have established case law precedent which will also side with them in case of having guests that behave like this. I am certain the large chains have successfully garnished guest's wages for repayment of property damage. I am honestly shocked that the police didn't charge the AirBnB guest with, at the very least, criminal mischief
At least AirBnB stood behind the homeowner is making good on what its idiot customer did. I would have expected AirBnB to hide behind some nebulous legal language and walk away from this scot-free. I guess I am jaded towards corporations and impressed that AirBnB took actions to try and make the entire situation right. Still, I never would use AirBnB offering accomodations.
I switched to Firefox last year around October after getting sick and tired of being the product to sell to Google. Now, everything I am on is open source and mostly Google-free. I only use Google for map because it's a lot better than the free/open source one.
Not specific to Chrome, but - why does "mobile first" generally seem to consistently result in "crappy everywhere"?
Yes, I hate this move to mobile first as well! Not everyone uses their smartphone for every fucking thing in the book. I use my smartphone for GPS, calling, texting, music, and the occasional movie only. Any heavy productivity I do on my laptop or desktop. Mobile first attempts to make a square peg fit a round hole.
The EPA should be renamed because the whole premise of the agency was to protect our environment. As of late they're doing more to destroy the environment than protect it. EDA=Environment Destruction Agency.
With as many tone deaf and disingenuous statements that Mark Zuckerberg has made, he has zero credibility in my book. As far as I am concerned this is a lie and he and his company will not be winning me back as a customer. I am a year and a month free from the assholery that Facebook is.
In theory, every person has the power to disrupt society. In practicality, however, one does not disrupt society without facing legal consequences from those poised to lose a lot of money. People who's material wealth has been threatened, fight hard to retain it. If you want to disrupt society, are you willing to give up your freedom to do so?
It works so long as checks and balances work. Once they've been co-opted, as in the current situation in the US, then all bets are off. The legal situation allowing corporations to be treated as people really was the end. It basically legalized the wholesale purchase of influence that killed checks and balances. All corporations have to do is ensure that politicians whom do not support their business interests do not get reelected. The gradual whittling away of what constitutes bribery has further contributed to the downfall. Our forefathers failed to consider this situation.
I'm an anti-capitalist but calling the language of capitalism "dangerous" is a bit of a stretch. Certainly, the language is extremely annoying, pompous, and overused. It sounds like a bunch of business majors jerking each other off and using a bunch of larger words often incorrectly to appear educated. When I think of dangerous, I think of immediately life threatening. I will need to buy a new car come February and it won't be a GM. Citizens wrongly bailed those assholes ou.
How the fuck is he going to pay for it? All thos really great tax cuts fucked everything up. So now the tax burden is being put on the poor to pay for the rich man's fucking quantum computing. I am sick of paying for the rich man's programs. I am sick of fucking wealthcare.
I would love to see this happen in the states as a program of the Federal Government but it will not happen any time soon because of the prevalent Libertarian ideology of no safety net whatsoever. Short of a major economic catastrophe, things will continue to lumber along in the new year much in the same way they have done this year.
Why single out T-Mobile? All of the big telecoms lie about their coverage in one way, shape, or form. Verizon and AT&T are no strangers to telling lie after lie.
There definitely needs to be challenges to the dominance of Intel and AMD. I'm looking forward to progress on the MIPS front. After the woes of Spectre and Meltdown, MIPS will be welcome competition!
That will stop this from being possible.
Instead of the ad, all you'd seen in your browser is a security warning that someone is trying to hijack your connection - someone like your ISP.

I gave it up for free! It didn't take me any money to convince me to close my account. Fuck Facebook and fuck Mark Zuckerberg!

I'd like to see IRIX open sourced!

Well, they could block port 443 outgoing.
