Well, by your reasoning, all follow-up software is as flawed as IE/Windows... but lets not kid, do you feel more secure on linux/firefox or windows/ie?
You maybe seeing something different then what you think. Since I have gone from using a 1 core Intel to a 2 core AMD I have had far fewer system-disabling crashes, because most of the time only one core is crashed, leaving me the other to successfully kill the process or fix the problem.
However, being a known fact AMDs run less hot then Intels, I would not be surprised if there were real processing errors occurring on Intels.
Anger management? I manage my anger just fine.... oh yeah, FUCK YOU ASSHOLE! No, not you moron, the other bastard! I hope you rot in hell!!!!!!!!!!11!!1111!!!111!shiftshiftshiftoneone one!!!!
Copyright keeps money flowing into the hands of corporations.
The GPL counteracts copyright by making the media free in most ways except for making non-free media with it, ie keeping the money from flowing into the hands of corporations.
You seem to not understand why the GPL exists. If copyright didn't exist, I really don't think that the GPL would be needed at all.
You always have to change. However, the point you should be stating is how hard it really is to "leave it all behind". Buy an island? Where do you get your food? How do you fight off attackers when WWIII comes around? How do you deal with acid rain caused by the US's SUVs?
Believe me, if leaving was an option at all, I would have long ago. I am very anti-social and all I would be leaving behind would be my technology, but even that doesn't need to be so.
It's not about leaving, it's about never being able to leave. You are always affected by morons, no matter how far you run. So, only thing left is to fight. Kind of sucks. But it's the way things are.
Overall, the mass of people has always and will always be like that. Look at America in the cold war (I hate to say things got better, but the US was a lot more oppressive then, openly violating the constitution. At least now they hide it behind enabling acts), look at medieval Europe, look at Rome... nobody gives a crap. The only reason we have people that speak for us is because so many people like it that way. People will always be dumb and shortsighted. Waiting for them to change is pointless; by the time they would have, we will have blown ourselves to curry paste 10 times over.
Then is "stealing" your girlfriend theft in your world? Kind of the same cause and symptom. I respectfully request you stop basing your use of words on what you think they mean and look them up in a dictionary.

1. Setup something to use this "open model" people preach,
2. Don't really care about it, you don't want it to do well,
3. It flubs/is canceled,
4. Yell about how openness is useless,
5. Pass laws,
6. Profit!
I maybe too cynical, but it's not like it's that far out-there. The RIAA has done worse.
"Dude don't say that, it's really kind of offensive to people who at some point or another HAD to leave their country. Even if you're not being tortured, or anything really bad like that, who wants to have the police hassle them on a regular basis, not be able to work in their chosen profession, etc. Just little things which make your life suck, when it really shouldn't have to."
So, insteed of trying to fix those issues, it's ok to pack up and leave? From a personal point of view- sure, it's probably a good idea, but in the long run and view of others, it's going to be rightly looked down on. If everyone used that type of thinking for everything, we would have nothing but people who run at the slightest issue. At one time the US was a place no one wanted to live- but coming eventually paid off. Same for California. There are many examples.
"support everyones right to emigrate if they feel like they need to."
So do I. But I don't support their right to immigrate elsewhere just because they feel like leaving. However, that is aside the issue.
"Emigrés have also often been the deciding factor in overthrowing an oppressive government, in fact I'd say it's almost a prerequisite to have a strong expat community if you need to overthrow the government. These people need their freedom and ability to work, in order to help raise awareness about what is wrong with the way things are being run, and make changes. Someone being in jail for political reasons cannot really do much to change anything."
But this (the topic of leaving the US) is not an issue of not being able to fight the government but rather one of not wanting to. There are many ways here to fight it still, and until those are gone, anyone leaving isn't doing a blasted thing to help.
Sure, voting is pointless for the most part. That doesn't stop you from running just to say you got X number of votes.
Sure, the media is controlled by companies, but you stand a much better chance changing people's minds with billboards, going door to door and handing out fliers then you do setting up a website in X country run by an ex-American yelling about the US. Hell I wouldn't pay attention to him.
If you want to run, then go. Better now then on the battlefield. But I chose to stand and fight to the last breath.
Only cowards emmigrate. I have been TOLD to leave the US by many a neo-con, but there are only a few places I would move, and I do not desire to do so. But to answer the qustion...
"Unless security personnel ask for a root password (unlikely) you should be fine."
Security personnel: "Why would I want to login as a part of a tree?"
But for added safty, you can always rename root to something else and make a new (non-admin) account named root. Or you could run your real OS as a VM that doesn't show up on the boot menu. Even if they know what root is, it's unlikely they will think to look for that.
I see boobies all the time. I watch the news. Whenever anything political comes on, bam, boobies. I don't really understand why people like to look at them so much... just makes me feel as if I am living in a sea of morons... but yeah.
"there was no Apple software involved in this process."
You talk as if this is apple defending some no-name company who used one mac computer on their line of windows control computers. This isn't the case. APPLE makes the iPod. They shipped it with a virus. I don't care how you try to justify that; IT'S APPLE'S PRODUCT, not microsoft's. No matter what is to blame within apple for the virus, the blame OUTSIDE is still on apple for not having ANY type of check to keep it from happening.
To talk in macboi: if apple knows windows sucks so bad, why the HELL do they use it? Why not use linux or *gasp* their own software? It's bad when even apple doesn't trust macs... but we hear about windows because apple chose to use windows with an insecure setup.
"Why is everyone missing the fact that Apple did actually fess up to this?"
That's not what I call what apple said. "I broke the window but Jimmy MADE ME DO IT!" is more like what apple said.
Fault = Apple. Stop trying to coverup like a 2-year-old who broke a window.
I am OK with my skin not being bullet-proof because I try to avoid shootouts. But if I buy an MP3 player I'd rather it not kill me, even if it was my "fault" for being so easy to kill...
Except his being unable to use free software is a side-effect, not an effect in itself. He can't use any OTHER software, ether. Kind of like using GPL code to lock down a computer; it's not free to run ANY software, forget free or not.
Remember when some department or other of the Chinese government asked them to hand over a load of search data, and they told them it's right over there in the blue binder?
That's the best joke I have heard on /. in a long time!

Use the failure of an "open" project to give them more ammo when trying to control all media under the sun.

Japan
All I can think of really, and in that order.

Just remember: smile and yell in "pleasure". It'll get some guards sent to a psychologist, maybe even scar them for life!

Sounds like a bad translation. English -> Korean -> English (maybe even as bad as babelfish on the last one)
"The trouble is that Seoul is within easy artillery shot of the NK army"
And this is where air strikes and neutron bombs come in handy.
That's because you didn't buy the "think of the children" upgrade to your propaganda... err campaign center.
Except that Microsoft probably didn't blame the CD company for allowing a virus to be put on the CDs...

Maybe they just know better then to block a website full of lifeless nerds (me included). Normally the outcome of that is bad...
