Strange. Within 5 clicks on Rogers website I saw a comparison of all of their packages, also found that they have an new extreme plus with 18M down. They don't hide it.
From what I understood with Rogers' (I would assume Shaw is the same) bandwidth throttling is not done by port but by packet inspection. This would mean it doesn't matter which port you use as they would be looking at the content of the packet. This new thing (which up until now hasn't been noticable (but then again bittorrent hasn't been uber fast over Rogers for years)) is basically a "you are going to encrypt your bittorrent packets so we are just going to make sure that any encrypted traffic isn't fast". Before using uTorrent, I was lucky to get 1k/s when doing bittorrent due to Rogers' throttling. Now it isn't fast but at least I know I will get it (knock wood)
And chances are the small local DSL ISP is just reselling Sympatico. If Bell starts doing the same thing then you will see it occur. To be honest, the last time on Rogers I saw a difference was when I wasn't using uTorrent. Once I started encrypting with uTorrent the speed jumped up, not exorbitant amounts but back to what it was before Rogers started bandwidth shaping. This is just the ongoing war between Rogers and Torrent downloaders. If it happens to be that they aren't doing it to my phub yet (I am on the west side of Ottawa, this sounds like the east side) then I guess I will just downgrade my connection to their lite version so they don't make as much money off of me.
Especially when the bible says that for God a long period of time could seem like a second. Can't remember the exact quote. A good question is if you asked the same people that believe that God created the world in its present form as according to the bible, which way did he create it? There are contradictions in both Genesis 1 and 2 including the order in how things were created.
It's an honorary degree, it's more like saying "we recognise you as being prominent in this field and here's the proof."
Not: "omglolwtf u didnt get a degree heres one now ur one of us!!1 lol"
Actually honorary degrees are more of a "we need someone to speak at our graduation and we will give you one as payment". Nothing more, nothing less. Kind of cheapens what the real graduates are getting IMHO.
Why not see if you can pick up an old XBox and hack it with XBMC. I did it with mine. Before that it was collecting dust. Now I download the tv shows my PVR misses (don't get me into that) and watch them over the network. The interface is really good, you can play music, watch videos and rip games onto the hard drive so they load quicker (did I mention I threw in a larger 160G drive?). It also has other features like the weather, Youtube videos, Quicktime trailers. The only gripe I have is that every time I open a playlist it takes a while to parse through it which can take a while when the playlist is over 2000 songs. You figure it would have the ability to cache the content and only refresh upon request.
Should mention that I work for a government agency that takes security seriously enough to the point of criminal proceedings could take place if something was leaked i.e treason. They are reasonable where you don't get jackboots and truncheons across the back of the head if you send personal emails within reason but privacy is questionable and there is filtering going on with ingoing and outgoing emails that I am sure if certain triggerwords were picked up on external going email, I wouldn't be surprised someone may end up reviewing your email.
Besides the obvious Content Filters how are you blocking them? A moderately bright young chap could proxify their way around that Two fold method: 1. Content Filter 2. By an acceptable use policy stating the equipment is for work only and any deviance could lead to dismissal.
Maybe a bit draconian but we do have separate machines that are sandboxed that they can use for surfing "work-unfriendly" sites.
I heard about him. I think he was using the money into researching the possibility of exposure to a large amount of meteor fragments may have on organic material. Last I heard he had a large influx of cash from a local wealthy businessman to continue his studies. Further info on this show is available here
Sadly not for long. There was talk a while back about replacing our existing battle tank with the Stryker since we don't "need" them anymore. However I think this was with the previous management. I wouldn't be surprised that one of the reasons we sent the over the pond was to justify needing them.
For me though it isn't delay, it's the fact that the 8300HD PVR that Rogers uses doesn't always record previously configured shows. Actually more often than not it is due to one of the following reasons: 1. Rogers changes the name so that it is different than what I had selected (i.e CSI rather than CSI (HD)) It appears that any variance in the name and the show won't tape. Sometimes I catch it before it happens so I can add the variance into the scheduled recordings but if I don't it's too late as you can't go back. 2. The show I scheduled to tape ends a couple of minutes later (i.e Heroes two weeks ago ended about 20 seconds before the end where Clair's mom talks to Clair's dad so you don't find out who it is (downloaded the episode the next day and watched the last 5 seconds)or gets preempted which happened with the Simpsons after the Super Bowl which I should have forseen. 3. Some shows aren't available in Canada (i.e Ghost Hunters and BSG when it was only on SciFi and SkyOne) or the HD/Widescreen version isn't aired and instead they will show the 4:3 version (Gilmore Girls)
One thing I have noticed over the years is that, like banks, there will be good stories about a manufacturer and bad stories. My belief is that they probably are all the same.
Of course this is leaving the IBM Deskstar drives out of the picture. They were just evil.
I doubt Peer Guardian blocks you from the peer list in a torrent. Which is probably where they are getting most of their IP addresses. Opening up your WAP would just get you disconnected. Usually in the TOS for most of the Canadian ISP is that you won't be sharing your connection. Reading the email they sent, it didn't say anything about repercussions from the BSA but that you are risking getting disconnected due to breach of TOS. Which they can legally do.
I got one from Rogers for downloading a copy of Flight Sim X that I wanted to check out before buying. It was an email they got from the BSA. It had the specific IP, DNS name and torrent I was downloading from. Freaked the wife out but whatever. Normally my bittorrent behaviour is downloading tv shows i.e ones that Rogers PVR decided not to tape or to get widescreen version of shows that are displayed only in 4:3 like BSG but I wanted to see how Microsoft's new version fared.
The result of my trial was that I am not buying FSX as it runs too slow on the hardware I have and it isn't that much better than FS 2004.
Vista supports USB keys, Cd etc for initial drivers. What I would have liked though is that in XP SP2 if you had slipstreamed it into your cd that it could have added such a feature. I would love to get rid of my floppy drives.
I have a 46 Samsung DLP that I bought in October of 2005. The bulb is still going strong even though this is our main tv. I would suspect that it has to do with the 5 minute cool-down that the tv goes through every time you shut it off. You have no choice. When I was looking for a tv I chose a DLP and I chose Samsung over Toshiba due to Toshiba being rebranded LGs. I'm not trying to start a flame war, I just don't particularly like LG due to its Goldstar history.
Considering the strength of the beer culture in Oregon and Washington, I wouldn't be surprised if craft brewing in British Columbia were in better shape than it is in Toronto. I would love to hear some counter-examples to look for next time I'm in Toronto.
My dad's family is from BC and their opinion is that Kokanee and Rickards (yes I used to drink it religiously which is where my online name came from (although mispelt)) have gone downhill since Labatt's and Molson respectively bought the companies.
Might have to turn in my Social Insurance and OHIP card but if given the choice between Molson Canadian, Labatt's Blue and Samuel Adams, I'd have to go with the Merkin. Keith's and Adams, would be Keith's but DogFish Head IPA would take the cake.
How do you do "ulimit -u" on Windows btw? I believe there is a setting you can configure in a GPO that limits the amount of threads/memory/etc per user in Windows.
Haven't seem the last two but I think Heroes has been flawed from the beginning. It has excellent characters, is a novel idea but the flaw? The plot is moving...too...damn...slow. It looks like the thing that made Lost great the first season but has declined since is something they are trying to avoid with Heroes and that is that the plot was great the first season but feels like they didn't know if they were going to be around for a second. The third with the Others has been dragging along
Now don't get me started about the penultimate of dead horse beatings called ER....

Stamp of approval?

I have heard that you can do a cpu transplant with a P3 but good luck finding one and this was one person saying it so take it with a grain of salt.

I believe it was something lobbied by the CRIA (the equivalent to the RRIA in Canada). Their interest is purely for music.

It is legal to download Music but that's it. Software and Video is not.

I think the key thing is not that Bush is President, but of Cheny as VP and Rumsfeld as Sec of Defence.

Could have been worse. It could have been every 108 posts. Try to get that right
