Why do they even bother with touch screens? Why don't they do like ATM's and have actual buttons on the side of the screen that you would use to select your options?
Yes, touch screens are "cooler" but why not use a proven technology? Shoot, they may even be able to save money since a regular LCD is a tad bit cheaper than a touch screen.
Also what is this BS about drift? My Touch Pro was calibrated ONCE and it hasn't drifted (and I know plenty of iphone users who don't have "drift" problems). Could it be do to the size of the screen?
One thing to keep in mind with these type of machines is replacement parts. Back in the day those parts seemed to last a lot longer. Now days it just feels like they wear out quicker. Make sure you can find replacement parts (72 pin SIMM anybody?).
How ironic, with all the Vista bashing that tends to go on in threads like these. Vista boots relatively quickly, and hasn't been powered down for me for weeks since suspend/wake works perfectly.
But at least someone, somewhere can boot linux in 5 seconds.
Agreed. The only time I reboot my laptop is after updates/new software install. IMO the power management in Vista is the best I've seen.
I was just going to say that in the next go around she will most likely be on the top of the list for candidates. If the Rep's win this election I would dare say it would all but clinch the deal for her as she will have gained valuable experience and hopefully the trust of the public.
I hate to say it but there is the novelty of the "First Women President" or "The First Black President" that will have people voting for an individual. The fact that she may very well be a good politician would just be a secondary factor to that.
They are useful for applications that can be massively parallelized. Your average program can't break off into 128 threads, that takes a little bit of extra skill on the coder's part. If, for example, someone could port gcc to run on the GPU, think of how happy those Gentoo folks would be:) (make -j128)! That would be "make -j129" (cpu's + 1 is the recommended setting)
This is true. I think it has to do with their new "buy one version and convert to any version at any time" deal. Ultimate and premium have the whole MCE thing built in so that could be taking the extra (tons) of space.
That said though we are only talking roughly +/-10GB which is relatively small in comparison to your standard HDD. I know, I know it shouldn't have to be that way.
BTW anybody know how much OS X (latest release) uses on a fresh install?
With XP still chugging along merrily (with better stability and lower HW expense/requirements) I really don't see the value for any but the smallest organization.
That is a huge misconception about Vista. The thing that requires the beefy HW is Aero with all it's fancy stuff. Turn it off, and the hardware resources are minimal. I had it running on my Latitude X300 and it ran just fine. The system always felt responsive and peppy. Features to love about Vista include: Firewall profiles, quick standby times (and more important coming out of standby EVERYTIME), great power management, quick search in the start menu (one button hot key to bring up search window (AKA the Windows button)), etc.
Sure it has its quirks but in my experience the good far out weighs the bad.
Need to have your phone send faulty GPS coordinates so people monitoring your location think you are in class? There's an app for that.
Agreed. As long as I can close it I could care less that it's there.
From your mouth to God's ears. I can't stand all the news sites right now. Twitter this and twitter that. *barf*
Not true. I did. Firefox has gotten bloated and takes forever to even startup (I only have 1-2 plugins installed). Chrome is wicked fast.
3. Run "IronPortable.exe". It will download the latest version of Iron from SRWare and install Flash from your computer!
Ummm.... pretty sure it's just updating itself.

I'm going to pistol whip the next person that says "shenanigans"!
Ummmmm.... seenonslash?

They all have agendas.
I think somebody jumped the gun on this one. April fools anyone?
Aside from using them as a reference in the future , does it really matter what they say as long as you are happy with your decision?
That's what gentoo is doing. It kinda sucks cause you have to use overlays if you even want to look at it.
Man I wish I had mod points. Well said
is "compiling a stage1" a euphemism?
That has to be one of the best summaries I've ever read on slashdot. I didn't even have to RTFA and I am up to speed on the story.
not all wlc's run linux. The stupid crappy wireless lan express engine or whatever it was called ran linux. Worthless piece of crap IMO.

Informative? Really?

Only time will tell.
Actually wouldn't it be something like:
24% --- In favor
25% --- Against
63% --- Republican
Could be the manufacturer then. Both systems I've run Vista on (Dell Latitudes X300 and d620) have performed great.
