Exactly. I couldn't finish book one. However, I can't begrudge a fan for liking something that doesn't interest me. I have wandered the halls of the Hyatt at DragonCon and let me tell you that there aren't a more fervent fanbase than the WoT folk. Small, yes, but fervent. I don't like Buffy either, but I wouldn't pile on Joss Whedon if he died tomorrow.
I like Atlanta. My in-laws live there, so we visit a couple times a year. There's the Vortex. It's the home of DragonCon (Adam Hughes). Max Lager's.
It has two problems.
It is completely surrounded by the state of Georgia.
The residents don't realize that they are completely surrounded by the state of Georgia.
If I'm curt with you it's because time is a factor. I think fast, I talk fast and I need you guys to act fast if you wanna get out of this. So, pretty please... with sugar on top. Code the f***in' driver!
Just ask the kid to swing a golf club. Carl Spackler could confirm. Done and done.
"Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.
Accomplishing "things" like posting on slashdot...you know, important "things". If she built a MythTV PVR with low-power Via processor, that would be different.
And to think of all that time I wasted reading Camus.
Brighthouse in my area does this. Let us say that I had my windows laptop infected (hypothetically, of course) one evening. The next morning I fire up my Linux desktop to check news, read Penny Arcade, etc. Brighthouse redirected my first request to a page stating that a machine attached to my cable modem is blasting out emails and I need to address it or some further action would be taken. Sure enough, it sent out over 30,000 emails overnight. I fixed and let them know.
I don't know what the further action would have been, but they were on it.
I admit my bias as a Bioware fanboy, but I was bummed when they announced Mass Effect when the 360 was launched. Didn't have one and didn't plan to get one. A year passed and I broke down and got a 360 end of last year (actually two if you count the returns). I pre-ordered ME when I bought the thing and it was supposed to launch in January. Looks like it will be September. It'd would be interesting to know if it was issues with the engine was behind some of the delays. I prefer to think that Bioware is more like Blizzard and they don't release total crap.
I'd mod insightful, too, but let's not get carried away.
To the anecdotes!!!
My first PS2 is still going, maybe not as strong. I have 6 year-old and we've left it on for days for certain games that have crappy save points. I got a 360 for Christmas for said 6 year-old. I couldn't land a Wii and the wife said Santa had to come through with something. The punk was interested in Viva Pinata and it was a hit. I played the wheels off of Medal of Honor 2. Other than the Live Arcade, there ain't a whole lot of family friendly games on the 360 that aren't re-hashed licensed property crap that is available on other consoles.
Santa shelled out some cash for the 360. Want WiFi? Add 100.00 unless you go the Buffalo Wireless Adapter route. Hard drive? An amazing 10GB for you to download Strange Brew to. So it may be a wash after accessorizing a 360 to PS3 specs. And it looks like BluRay is winning. To be fair, I just watched Roger Corman's The Fantastic Four, so fidelity doesn't matter to much to me, either.
I also had to return my 360. This with the knowledge that we can't leave it on for hours at a time, like the PS2. Yes, it was a quick and fair process. I got letter back saying, in effect, 'Dear Valued Customer, the unit you sent in was completely boned. Here's a new one. Thanks for flying.' Goodwill? After 6 months, the thing should work.
I understand the online success. I download demos, full games and trailers. Achievements? Meh. Seriously. I once ate the filling out of ten twinkies. Does that count?
Games. Since the punk got a 360, I pre-ordered Mass Effect in December 2006. (Disclosure:Bioware fanboy). ETA, Jan 2007, no Mar 2007, No Jun 2007, how about Sept 2007? No problem. Bioware is not going to ruin their name, but Mass Effect was announced with the 360. Yeah, the 360 has some good games, but when I go to EB Games or Blockbuster, it seems like the 360 aisle should be longer for a console that has been out so long.
Good point. I don't think it is drawn that simply (pardon the pun), but an allegory like you describe, all the same. I'm not trying to improve my/. credibility, but I managed to make it to a Marvel panel at Megacon. Steve Epting and others where there to discuss Marvel and of course Civil War dominated. Apparently they were penciling the death of Cap at the time, but were not letting on.
Someone raised their hand and started to ask "Since when has Tony Stark been such..." and before they could finish people in the crowd shouted out things like "an asshole?" or "a Republican."
The answer was interesting. Tony Stark is, in essence, an arms dealer. Of course he's going to align himself along those lines and we shouldn't expect anything else. That would be out of character.
Personally, I think they also considered that when they were crafting this storyline, they purposefully chose Captain America, the super-soldier-as-a-result-of-military-medical-expe riments, to represent the libertarian side. A nice juxtaposition, if you ask me.
Re: World War Hulk: You may get your wish. The also said that don't expect Doc Strange to wave his magic wand and fix it all.

Me too. Now I live in van down by the river...
Damn straight. They called me mad at the academy. It also has the dominant phonetic long 'o' of spoon instead of the short 'o' of fork.
After all, it's hard to write a song with bitter fingers.

Oops. Bad example.

Personally I run MS Windows Mobile Media Center Live Ultimate 2007.
