  12. Radiology on Excerpt from Kessler's 'The End of Medicine' · · Score: 3, Informative

I have been running a radiology IT company for the last 4 years and have been involved with radiology in one way or another half my life (all of my life if you count my father as being a radiologist). I frequent medical technology trade shows and have seen quite a bit of this 3D post processing.. Very intriguing stuff and the resolution on these machines is very beautiful, I often wish my home PC could render the same resolution as these machines. Doom 6 would be the next best thing to sex..

However, I don't think any machine will be capable of replacing a medical professional in the next 20 years and I really feel there is only one major reason holding vendors back: liability. The human body is simply too complex for a computer to check for issues, understand complications, diagnose and recommend further action.

Currently the systems can highlight and pinpoint potential problem areas, but these systems still rely on a medical professional to review and approve the findings. From what I here the systems are pretty good at finding "problem" areas but offer a lot of false-positives that the doctor has to check out.. thus negating any upper hand advantage they gave in work flow optimization.

It's not like the concept of take over and control is limited to software. This is fundamental human behavior. Anyone ever hear of the Roman Empire?

I don't understand why everyone bitches so much when a corporation makes a strategic decision that takes them one step closer to market dominance.. If it's really that bad. If it is that bad, you should go make your own OS/mega-corporation that will be better than the one you are bitching about. You aren't elite because you compile and you aren't elite because you're an arm-chair business strategy professor... If you really knew better, you wouldn't be here complaining about it know would you?

  21. SOLD! on Razer's New Mouse Optimized for MMO and RTS · · Score: 1
Razer says this mouse is rated for 1200 actions per minutes (APM), so it will be ideal for RTS and MMOPG. While this sounds pretty impressive, and Razer repeats the number whenever they have a chance, it does not explain very much to people who are not big time RTS gamers. Very few mice use an APM rating and while Razer does not explain how they did the testing, it suffices to say that 1200 APM is a lot

The manufacturer says it's good.. so I'm getting one!

Seriously though, this is the only secion of TFA that mentions anything about RTS/MMOPG capabilities. Weak sauce.
