" I think it's clear that this law has as much to do with smug self-righteousness as it does with anyone's health." "smug self-righteousness" is the motto of the people in NYC that effectively dictate things for the entire state.
"The pixel has no headphone jack. Stupid google sheep."
Apple did it first, and there is the problem... Apple can make the most asinine changes and their fans will eat it up. Other manufacturers see the massive sales and interpret that as "people like what Apple did", when the correct interpretation is "Apple customers are so addicted to their iThing that they will accept anything".
With ticket prices being what they are, I use RT to get an idea of the value of actually going to the theater, not whether I will see a movie at all. There are plenty of low scoring movies that I've enjoyed at home, but would probably have a lower opinion of if the wife and I had forked over $40 or $50 and spent an evening out of it.
minds exploding as all the people bashing windows 10 for sending loads of anonymous telemetry try to wrap their heads around an open source project getting away with something even worse...
"That mantle has been given to The Orville which is the spiritual successor to Trek IMHO"
Agree. The Orville feels like Trek. But, Trek in the REAL world, where people tell off color jokes and don't take themselves so damn seriously all the time. I don't miss the pontificating, and at least in The Orville it comes in a wrapper of humor.
"I mean you do know there is a second hand market for EVs too right"
And the prices don't make much sense for those used EVs. You might as well get a new one and be able to pocket all the tax credits available. You won't have spent that much more in the end and you don't have to worry about battery condition.
That wall of acronyms and tech buzzwords means almost nothing to Apple's target market. People that give 2 cents about that are probably on Android. For better or worse Apple has hitched their cart to the masses and the masses want flashy features, not "media playback is 5% more efficient". Also, every release seems to generate more grumbling about the direction the iPhone UI is going. I had to help my mother in law with her iPhone a couple of weeks ago, and "intuitive" was NOT the word I would have used.
"It is NOT 'AT&T's phone until it's paid for'. It is YOUR phone. Where does this idiotic 'if you owe money on something you don't own it' come from?"
Well considering ATT won't unlock the bootloader to allow switch to another carrier until the phone is paid for, and they would terminate your service and send a bill for the full amount if you failed to make payments or return the phone, that sounds like it's not really "mine". My definition of "mine" is something that cannot be legally claimed by someone else.
On the most recent book of the Bobiverse series. Basically a modern day nerd engineer ends up as the consciousness controlling a space probe in the future. We've heard that before, but this one is witty, and as Bob replicates himself, the byplay between
the various Bobs as they explore the galaxy is pretty hilarious. Not too many dead spots in the story 3 books in, and the chuckles come on a regular basis.
I ran across this one by accident, and have been binge reading the series for a few days now. Along the same lines, if you'd like to play a game that feels related in theme and tone, try SOMA.
Who doesn't want more performance at lower price? I can't be the only person that does more than game on their PC. I just got a Ryzen 7 1700x, maybe not a true workstation CPU, but 8c/16t would have been seen as such not that long ago I guess. I'm gladly giving up a small amount of gaming performance for massive gains in things like video encoding for far less than Intel would have cost me. Just being able to run handbrake on 8 threads and some game on the other 8 and have BOTH perform well at the same time is nice.
Make the damn phone 1mm thicker and put a bigger battery in it. Apple are determined to offer the smallest battery capacity they can get away with. Courage?
Threadripper officially launches on 8/10. Expect reviews to hit the internet first thing that morning as most hardware sites have had a week or two to play with their samples. Intel is trying desperately to make some last minute noise I suppose. Makes me suspect the official reviews of TR will be quite positive. Intel is going to find that having bigger numbers (Mhz, core count), is going to count for little when the other guy gets you 90% or more of the performance for half the price.
HAAAAHAAAAAAHAAAAA!!! The vast majority of iPhone owners are going to see an OS update notification and conditioned as they are by Apple they will assume that it is in their interest to upgrade, if not mandatory. Then, surprise, jokes on you when your apps don't work. Frantic calls to "genius" who advises a new phone of course, because "security". Sounds like a dick move designed to take advantage of people that don't know better.
yeah what is wrong with people not replacing perfectly functional devices every couple of years for marginal improvements? they totally deserve to have their purchased apps bricked. this is what happens when you don't follow the Benevolent Corp upgrade cycle. serves them right, the damn fools!
Sweet jesus, you are a rabid Tesla fan aren't you? The Tesla way is the only way because Elon made it thus!
The fact that Toyota is actually in production planning shows that this probably isn't some theoretical mumbo-jumbo, or something that requires perfect laboratory conditions to work. Very likely that Toyota has more or less stagnated with the Prius because they knew this new battery was coming.
The answer is that if you give drivers the slightest hint of an opening, they will zoom into it no matter how close they get to hitting you. It's the same asshole behavior you see on the freeway. Leave a car length between you and the next car and some jerk will whip into it as if it was an invitation. When a collision happens, the cyclist is always going to lose. Drivers in the US would rather hit you than place a wheel over that center line to safely pass. The solution is to take the full lane, which is legal anyway, to discourage being clipped.
This may be the first time a senior NASA official has really acknowledged that there wasn't enough funding. Official statements and releases usually just ignore the whole question of "how do we pay for it" and jump straight to the "look how big our rocket is" part.

Clearly this is user error...

hell for that matter, they'd be MINING on all those thousands of PC's that sit idle during non business hours, or any otherwise idle servers.

We'll see how well HBO Go does after the final season of Game of Thrones.
"I would probably have watched the new Star Trek series, but I'm not paying CBS $$/month"
If you're in the US, not sure that's an issue. Isn't CBS still free over the air??

well played
Can you express "scintilla" in fractions of a library of congress?

exactly... MS didn't invent the game and actually got burned by it. Don't blame them for learning to play instead of standing in the fire...

keep an eye on ArsTechnica. They may cover this as well, and they do a pretty good job making this stuff comprehensible to the average Joe.
